Welcome to the Puppy Place--where every puppy finds a home! Two chihuahuas mean double the fun in this special edition of Puppy Place. Lizzie and Charles Peterson definitely enjoy competing with each other. Especially when Lizzie acts like she knows everything about dogs and Charles just doesn't want to listen. Fortunately, in this Special Edition, there are TWO chihuahuas to foster. Charles and Lizzie each agree to take one and see who can train theirs more successfully. Will the Peterson household make it through this sibling rivalry?
just when I start thinking this one has the children being much nicer and finding good owners in a natural way, they have to ruin it with a millionaire. I do like the anti puppy mill message.
I love the Puppy Place series. In Chewy and Chica, I like how there is a lively competition between Lizzie and Charles to see who can find the first forever home for their puppy.
It was ok. I am a 3rd grade reading teacher and I have several of The Puppy Place series books. This was my first one to read. I have these because I always have students that love reading stories about animals or just about dogs.
A great story for children to learn about what is involved in getting a puppy. It teaches why you should buy from a reputable breeder. It also let's children know that their voices can be heard and that they can make a difference.
This is, I think, the fourth Puppy Place book we've read and the first Special Edition. Julia likes these enough that she wants to read more and she's picked out which she wants to read first (from the covers and titles shown in the back of each book.) I like how each of the books covers a different breed of dog while staying with the same main characters. That's perfect for the age range these are geared towards. I liked how in this book Lizzie an Charles are so active with the demonstration and petition and all. Not that they aren't active in the other books - they certainly are - but this is a different sort of active. I loved Mr. Beauregard's character so much too! He was an awesome edition. Lizzie and Charles' Dad and Charles' friend Sammy bring a certain amount of 'realistic' to the story also.
I thought that it was a wonderful story, full of competition between brother and sister. I thought that the brother and sister should have worked together instead of working on bringing the other one down. If they worked together, they would have achieved more. They could have found an owner much faster then they did. If they worked together, the book would be much better.
I think that the mom and dad should have stopped the contest to see which one of them was going to get their pet adopted first. I think the book was like The Lemonade War because in The Lemonade War, the brother and sister also fight, but over who can make the most money over a lemonade stand.
Chewy And Chica ( the puppy place special Edition) by Ellen Miles. Two chihuahuas are trying to find a home. A brother and a sister named Lizzie and Charles are taking care of the puppies until they can find a home for them. recommended for elementary and young kids. I really liked how the book had people talking but they added the dogs talking as well so the dogs could join in to conversations.
This book was about how chewy and chica found their forever home and also about the demonstration to block puppy mills. My best part of the book was when They found out that the bet for who finds chewy and Chica's home first was a tie.
Lizzie and Charles are in elementary school. Their family, the Petersons, have a puppy named Buddy plus they foster dogs and help them find homes.
Lizzie and Charles were volunteering at a local rescue when a man pulls up with his car full of puppies. There had been a man in a truck selling the puppies and he bought them all to ensure they could find good homes. The rescue has room for all the puppies except for two chihuahuas, which the Petersons agree to foster. Lizzie takes responsibility for the female, who she names Chica, and Charles takes responsibility for the male, who he names Chewy. Chica needs to learn to be better housetrained and Chewy needs to learn not to bite so Lizzie and Charles have a contest to see who can train their puppy the fastest and find a home for them.
In the meantime, their mother, who is a local journalist, investigates and discovers the puppies came from a puppy mill. Together they are all determined to educate people that it's better to adopt a puppy from a rescue than to buy one from a puppy mill.
Though this book is a quick read and directed at elementary-aged children, I found it entertaining. There is a learning experience and a puppy tip at the end. It is written in third person perspective and first person from Chewy, Chica and Buddy's points of view. It is part of the Puppy Place series.
This was a nice book with good information about puppy mills. However, some of it was a little ridiculous. Baking dozens of dog biscuits, creating tons of signs, and organizing a demonstration all within two days while at the same time as training a puppy that needs to be brought out every 20 minutes seemed a little unbelievable.

Read this to my 6-year-old. He is just starting to get into reading and learning to read. We also have two Chihuahuas that we adopted. We enjoyed this story tremendously.
It was ok I did not love it but I did not hate it either. I liked the heated battle between Charles and Lizzie but was disappointed when neither of them won.

I loved this book because it was hilarios and fantastic I would recomend this book to all dog lovers and love a fun read. This book is about two chihuahua puppies that are brothers who came from a puppy mill who need a caring forever home. But they need a lot of patience and training.Chica [the black and white puppy] needs potty training.Chewy [the tan and white one] has a bitting habit. When Lizzie and Charles find out to solve the problem the guy who brought the puppies adopted the two cute chihuahuas.I asked myself why were puppy mills invented and why do they do such a crule thing?
This book is about two chihuahuas that are trying to find a home. A brother and a sister named Lizzie and Charles took care of the puppies until they could fins a home for them. I liked this book because the puppies found a home with people Lizzie and Charles knew.
