Help! With the Recess Enrichment Program, A.J. and the gang have to take classes even during recess! The new teacher, Mrs. Lizzy, teaches how to make balloon animals, how to compost worms, and lots of other weird useless skills that nobody would ever want to know in a million hundred years!
The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
Mrs. Lizzy is the enrichment teacher during recess. When it was Crazy-Hair Day they asked Mrs. Lizzy if she put her hair in two buns for Crazy-Hair Day and she said "No, I always wear my hair like this." On Crazy-Clothes Day, they asked Mrs. Lizzy if she cut holes in a trash bag so she could wear it for Crazy-Clothes Day. She said, "No, I always wear trash bags on Tuesdays." On Crazy-Hat Day, they asked Mrs. Lizzy if she wore a bowl on her head for Crazy-Hat Day and she said, "No, I always wear a bowl on my head on Wednesday." On Crazy-Shoes Day, they asked Mrs. Lizzy if she wore tennis rackets on her feet for Crazy-Shoes Day and she said, "No, I always wear tennis rackets on my feet on Thursday."
Mrs. Lizzy is maybe the recess enrichment teacher. She teaches the class at recess. She does not teach them the most useful things. She just makes up weird reasons to teach them those things. The real teacher is the lady who escaped from the loony bin. her name is Mrs. Sanford. she is going to teach the kids educational things.
Matthew: I think this book is amazing! I like how the characters stand out. I like how Mrs. Lizzy wore a trash can bag on crazy cloths day! Can you belive that!?!?!?!?!?! Mrs. lizzy is dizzy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally wild 'Crazy Week' at A.J.'s school. Not only is everyone wearing crazy clothes for each theme day, there's a new "Recess Enrichment Teacher" with bizarre ideas that the boys actually like. In this book, one of A.J.'s off-the-wall explanations for a teacher's behavior is actually proved right! Who knew? Another laugh-out-loud entry.
Mrs. Lizzy kidnapped the real recess entertainment teacher. Mrs. Lizzy teaches them how to make balloon animals and how to milk a cow and how to make armpit farts. It was funny. Mrs. Lizzy gets arrested for kidnapping the other teacher. She tied her up in the basement.
it is My favorite series but I can't beleive that MS. Lizzy kidnapped the actual teacher but looks l ike those tricks that MS. l izzy taught were important or useful like the armpit farts and the MiIking the goats Yeah so it . is not a bad book its kind of funny so read the BOOK
3.5 One of the teachers is finally kidnapped! after talking about it in almost every book. The boy also like the arm pit fart noise discussion in this one.
This book is mrs. Lizzy is dizzy. I loved this book beacuse it was fun weird. This book is by Dan Gutman. One time they where milking a goat. And it was rilly good I think you would like this book.
هفته دیوانگی برای پوشیدن لباس های دیونگی، کفش دیونگی، کلاه و… تو این هفته یه معلم فوق برنامه به مدرسه میاد که بعدا میفهمن واقعا از تیمارستان فرار کرده بوده
Neat little book. I didn't like the use of the word hate several times toward another student. I read this because my daughter has been reading this series.
The school that I went to had the same crazy week like AJ's school. On different days of the week we had to wear a different outfit to school. Like our favorate NFL Jeresy's,our school color's, mix match shoes, dress up like the president and the first lady, and some were teachers. Ms. Lizzy pretended to be their Recess Enrichment Program Teacher, she taught them a lot of fun crazy thing to do. AJ and his friend's though that it was kind of weird but they had fun doing them.On the last day the student couldn't eat their lunch fast enough so that they could go to recess and see what Mrs. Lizzy had for them. Once they were outside Officer Spence came running over to arrest Mrs. Lizzy. He said that Mrs. Lizzy had tied up the real Recess Enrichment Program Teacher Mrs. Sanford and put her in the school basement. With all of the fun that the students were having no one though to go and tell their teacher or Mr. Klutz about the goat Pootie they were milking. Mrs. Lizzy was Dizzy but she sure knew how to have fun in different ways. Like making animals out of ballons, yodelinging, making their armpits fart and turning worm poop into compost. I learned somthing new by reading this book, worm poop mixed in soil can help plants, fruits and flowers grow.
The book is about a boy named A.J. and he did not like school. One day they had a "lock down" and he had to hold hands with someone he did not like. (it was a girl) In the middle of the book they got a new teacher named Mrs. Lizzy. Mothers Day was coming up and the kids made presents for their Mothers. Mrs. Lizzy taught them how to make balloon animals. She also taught them make arm pit farts and eat worms. They had crazy hair day, crazy shoes day, crazy hat day, crazy clothes day and crazy everything day. Whoever was wearing knee pads had to milk the goat, and A.J. was wearing knee pads. At the end of the book Mrs. Lizzy got arrested because she was not a real teacher.
The second and third graders at my school love these books. They like that they are funny and use words like "shut up" and "butt" as well as the exaggerated humor, some of which they don't always get. What I like about these books are the many idioms contained within each. It might be fun to make a class book about all the idioms and their meanings contained within each book...and you can also use this time, if you so choose, to address why using the words "shut up" and "butt" in school are frowned upon.
Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!
This book is very silly, very funny and filled with tongue-in-cheek humor (a lot of it is grammar-related) that I loved, but may have been lost on our girls. In any case, it's a fun book to read aloud and although we jumped into this series at book #9, we will likely go back and read some of the others.
To be honest, I heard some educators objected to this one, so I wistfully went looking for controversy. I didn't find any. Sure, a psycho breaks into a school and a teacher is kidnapped and tied up -- but it's no different from the antics of Captain Underpants. Nice flow...100-page chapter series. A few little twists and added vocabulary. A nice unorthodox series, overall.
This is a good book for reluctant readers. The reader, especially a young student, can relate to the characters in the book.. The things the children are taught by their new Recess Enrichment Program teacher are odd. Soon they discover why Mrs. Lizzy is teaching them those crazy things. This must have been the best way to end Crazy Week at school.
Funny and popular series that takes place in a - you guessed it- school. Very easy mystery to solve but the silliness here is the main draw. The order is unimportant in this series. --Rachel J/pb/First Chapter/ My Weird School
A.J. and his friends have a new teacher at recess who shows them how to do some very strange things. The kids wonder if Mrs. Lizzy is actually a real teacher because her ideas are so crazy!
