Here is Unity cofounder Charles Fillmore's first book, originally published by Unity in 1909, in which we find his early ideas on the Twelve Powers, the seminal concept of his whole metaphysics. We also see how he originally formulated Unity to be a movement of universal spiritual science based on principles that could be proved and demonstrated.
Here also is the sense of Unity as a great mystical tradition that draws from all religions and all faiths. While Charles used the word Christian in his title because to him the book was based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, he did not want to be limited by any sense of being denominational. Charles saw Unity as transdenominational, as helping people find the Truth in every tradition.
Charles Fillmore clearly saw Unity as a spiritual science that needed to be practiced, not merely believed in or obeyed. The statements that follow each chapter in this book are not meant merely to be read, but applied to daily living. He intended this book to be a manual of mental disciplines that anyone could use to foster spiritual healing through the use of denials and affirmations.
Christian Healing is a foundational work for Unity and New Thought teachings.
Christian Healing is certainly a very interesting read. Fillmore discusses the latent powers of mind and shares an interesting perspective on the allegorical interpretation of Christian scripture. Anyone with an interest in metaphysical traditions or the mind/spirit connection should give this book a chance. If nothing else it'll open one's eyes to a different way of understanding the Bible.
The book was between Christian faith and new age movement, though here the author's background was Christian. The author try to integrated faith unto the science, in this term the new brain and psychology science which emerged and on the rise in that time. I think this book quite balanced, though if people only used it partially then the trap to became a new-age science would be very large.
