What a visual treat! I did not read the information for every house, but did read all of the text leading up to that.
I do wish the text for the illustrations had been on the same page. The picture of the house could be a page or two ahead of it’s background text.
I have never seen this comprehensive a book on all of FLW’s work before.
Caution-it’s heavy!

This book is pretty beautiful, except that the layout is horrible. The pictures do not necessarily align with the text on the page and the reader has to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what caption belongs to what picture. This was so distracting that I could not even finish the book.

Great guide with photos and information on every completed work and some details on many unbuilt designs as well. Works as a good introduction to every building by providing brief details on the clients, design process, and/or construction.

3.5 stars. Good overview of Wright. I think if the format was a bit larger it would be a 4 star easily. Nice quality to the presentation and extraordinary pictures.

This is, without a doubt, the worst book I've read about FLW and his works. First, the book is HUGE and has over-sized pages, but unfortunately the page designer did a terrible job laying out the text. It almost never corresponds to the photo on the page, so you have to flip ahead or behind to find the building being discussed. I don't get it. There is plenty of room on each page to make the photos correspond better!

But that's just the beginning of my complaints with this book. The author makes commentary on designs and choices FLW made in his life in the most annoyingly condescending way. I don't always agree with FLW, but a person purporting to write a bio and guide to designs shouldn't say that a certain design "would stick out like a sore thumb" and such like.

Furthermore, I believe the author has several facts wrong about FLW's life and designs. Having read many bios and toured many homes I picked out several statements where he is the only one to make such a claim about some fact of FLW's life or events even in the public record. It was weird to be suddenly confronted with something I'm sure is incorrect by someone who claims to have researched Wright's life thoroughly.

And finally, the icing on the cake are the many instances of poor grammar, awkward sentence structure, and just plain typos in the text. Any decent editor should have caught and fixed these things.

This book is a travesty. I had been under the impression that it was used in some college courses about Wright. If so, it makes me angry. It seems like a hastily done, shoddy excuse for a scholarly work.

Do you like art? How about architecture? Perhaps you are specifically a Frank Llyod Wright fan. Or maybe, just maybe, you are a young hipster in search of an "artsy" coffee table book for you new apartment that your parents pay for...

Whatever your situation or interests, The Vision of Frank Lloyd Wright will be a satisfying book. Organized into residntial and non-resdential dwellings and sub-delineated by time period; this book is filled with rich photographs of Lloyd's creative works (including some non-homes)and is spiced with background information regarding his life, relationships, and career. It turns out that Lloyd is almost like the Andy Warhol of homes. Or not, but that is for you to decide.

Even if you don't want to read text, the photos are always great for some mindless entertainment and browsing. A great coffee table book (and not as bulky).
