Setting a romance on a notorious border point between Mexico and Arizona and starring two US border agents was a choice. The author pulled it off though. The heroine was no ninny, she was quite kick-ass, which always surprises me because this is the same person who wrote Where Fires Once Burned THE worst Harlequin I have ever read starring the most jelly-spined leaky blobfish heroine I have wanted to throttle. I still have PTSD from that and it is a wonder I keep giving her chances. The truth is, the author is a compelling story-teller and this one was highly readable and enjoyable if you like cop romances with a lot of action and suspense.
