Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant: How to Manage Childish Boss Behavior and Thrive in Your Job

Rate this book

Waste of time.

Too informal bar type advice.

The premise is to compare bad bosses to terrible toddlers. An easy concept for a hard issue.

The book fails from this point. The author provides light hearted comparisons and some answers to questions about what to do with a bad boss. I find the advice downright negligent. The typical 'don't worry about insults, walk it off injury management' which is unrealistic and dangerous.

Let me save you money and time. GENERALLY, If you're dealing with a bullying boss then often the laws are not strong enough to protect you - nor to punish wrongdoing. YOU MUST PUT YOUR HEALTH FIRST. Yes, It's completely unfair and a huge inconvenience but it's often best to find another job.

As for people skills (which I think this book is supposed to help with), this book has no substance or sources. I prefer How to Win friends and influence people as a general people book and will keep searching for more persuasive books on the topic.

In summary, great idea for a much needed area (dealing with difficult people) but not to my taste.

It was alright, a fast read, lots of personal examples. It did help me see some things I might have missed in interpersonal relationships.

I would “read” again. I just read the summaries at the end of each chapter. And that was insightful for me. I will be recommending this book. I don’t agree 💯 with everything, but agree with more than I disagree. Know your audience when applying the concepts.

Good book

Consider the alternative, dealing with toxic people required you to understand them. This book allows you to develop a strategy to manage it.
