In "Will the World End in 2012?" Christian author Raymond Hundley, PhD, presents a stirring, well-researched evaluation of the ten most prominent end-of-the-world theories.
Ancient Mayan priests, Nostradamus, a woman in touch with alien beings, religious prophets they all offer their reasons for believing that 2012 is the terrifying date for the end of human history. They project scenes of solar storms; collision with another planet; attacks from outer space; and super volcanoes that cause earthquakes, fires, and devastating tsunami waves that destroy everything and everyone in their path. Amidst the fabric of theories and predictions, Hundley deftly guides the reader and carefully considers each scenario.
In a time when people everywhere will be asking "Will the World End in 2012?," this evangelistic booklet gives Christians the perfect opportunity to reach out to their family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors, no matter what happens in 2012. "

"Will the World End in 2012?" The title of this book is so appropriate for the times in which we live. All around us are books, articles, and happenings that speak about December 21, 2012 as the end of the world. Raymond Hundley deals with many topics including the Mayan calendar, the Hadron Collider, and the predicted future collision with Planet X. His style of writing immediately pulls the reader into each section by beginning with a short story followed closely by the meat of his research then drawn to a short conclusion. His list of sources is noted extensively at the end, making it easy to check him out.
I found this to be an interesting, easy-to-read book dealing with a subject seemingly on everyone's mind. I found it interesting to read about things like "Zetas," "Web Bots," and the "Hadron Collider." This book is written to Christians, but it is a good book to share with friends/relatives who are fearful of the future. I think it would make a great discussion book as well, and fits in church libraries. Are we ready to meet our end? Raymond Hundley closes asking us how we are prepared to face the end, then John 14: 1-3.
I’ve never been a dooms day aficionado, in fact, quite the opposite. I don’t want to know. I don’t want the end of the world to come. I know as a Christian, I’m not supposed to worry about the end, but look on it as an exciting time when Jesus comes back for us and we are finally taken back to live with him and the Father.
John 14
1) Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2) In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4) And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5) Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Isn’t it natural as human beings to not want it to end though? I want to see my kids grow up. I want to see my grandkids. I want to be here for that.
But, I saw this book, and my natural curiosity got to me. I’ve heard a lot about the Mayan calendar from those who believe that the end of the Mayan calendar on Dec 21, 2012 foretells the end of the world. Even Jordan has come home and told me about it. My 11 year old has heard the dooms day prediction.
I just finished the book and holy cow. I’m a tad nervous for 2012 now. Raymond C. Hundley PH.D. didn’t jump into this from the angle of being a Christian and why we should or shouldn’t believe this or that. He took in all the information regarding the predictions and analyzed it with responses from leading scientists, experts in the field of study in question, and used a lot of common sense. He did include a part at the end for Christians, and what we believe, how the end times will affect us. He doesn’t try to pin down a date, which someone called him on in an Amazon review. He gives a reason for that in the book, but I think the reviewer missed that part.
Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
He doesn’t know and to try to predict to know more than Jesus does is just wrong.
In the book he covers these topics: the Mayan calendar, solar storms, the Large Hadron Collider, Nostradamus, reversal of the North/South magnetic poles, Collision with “Planet X”, our allignment with the galactic plane, super volcanoes, the Web Bot Project, religious predictions.
I was sure he would discount all of them. I was secretly hoping he would. He didn’t. Some of them were discredited as utter nonsense from weirdoes (my words, not his), but some of them very well will probably happen. Whether they happen in 2012 or not, that remains to be seen. I won’t tell you which ones are most likely going to happen, that will ruin the book for you, but if you order your copy on Amazon , and want to find a little info while waiting, look up information on Yellowstone and Super Volcanoes.
I really liked this book. It was an easy read, which for me is good. I don’t read dry non-fiction books well. I usually get bored in the first chapter and give up. This one I started last night and finished a few minutes ago. I’m passing it down to Jordan now since he has expressed interest in the 2012 predictions.
And now, I shall go worry for the rest of my days about super volcanoes. Nothing like a few true dooms day predictions to up my anxiety level.
The media has been swirling with “end of the world” predictions, movies, books – everywhere you look, it’s evident that people are consumed with 2012.
Raymond C. Hundley, the author of Will The World End In 2012 calls it “prediction addiction”. People are so consumed with doomsday that they are having panic attacks and insomnia as they search for answers to this dreadful event.
Although I haven’t read very many books about this subject, this one seems to be different in it’s approach in that it explains and breaks down the most popular points of view floating around today. The author begins with the ever popular Mayan Factor and also talks about solar storms, the predictions of Nostradamus, reversal of the magnetic poles, eruption of super volcanoes and more.
While giving a synopsis of each point of view, he also writes a conclusion at the end of each chapter telling whether or not he finds the point of view logical, biblical, or very likely to happen. For example, Hundley found the Mayan factor to be illogical and unfounded but in the case of the solar storm predictions for 2012, Hundley believes there is ample scientific information to confirm those speculations. He also states that the threat of the Yellowstone super volcano erupting is very real as scientists have confirmed that a future eruption is inevitable.
I found this book to be interesting as far as information goes, but I think the best part of the book is Chapter 12 in which the author instructs the readers how to prepare for “the end of the world.” He states: “Your own personal end of the world may come in 2012, 2032 or tomorrow.” And then he goes on to explain how to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which is the only guarantee that anyone will escape whatever happens when the end of time as we know it here on Earth, comes to an end.
He also stresses that Christians have a platform right now, because all of the 2012 hype and hysteria offers us another opportunity to talk with our friends, family and neighbors about accepting Christ.
There is a study guide for both groups and individuals included in the back of the book.
I read this book with a skeptic mind due to the fact that I’ve been wishy-washy on all the theories of the “end of the world”. To say the least, the book was entertaining to read yet I also learned a little bit from it. There were a few theories I had never heard of before, and these theories were essentially shot down as possibilities of the end of the world in the book anyway.
What bothers me slightly is how Dr. Hundley and his publisher market the book as an unbiased look at the end of the world theories. The cover of the book clearly states the book is a Christian guide, and the book even ends with a few suggestions of how, if the reader was not a Christian before, he or she should consider bringing Christ into his or her life.
Look, I am a Christian, and I believe in sharing the word of God with others. But I’m not sure if Hundley’s efforts in writing and marketing this book for a “wider audience” would be effective unless his publisher specifically requested for the book to be stocked in the 2012 literature sections of major bookstores. If not, the book may only reach Christian readers, which, although that’ll still be a success for the book, it may not be as effective as Hundley had wanted it to be.
Overall though, I found that the book was easy-to-read and was insightful in other aspects. Recommended for those who are curious about all the 2012 theories floating out there (Hundley analyzes the ten most-popular theories).
Will the World End in 2012? By Raymond C. Hundley, Ph.D. is quick overview of all the major prophecies (end of the Mayan Calendar, Nostradamus), possible scientific occurrences (solar storms, alignment with the Galactic Plane) and the outlandish theories (alien communication) for the time surrounding December 21, 2012. The book is just over 150 pages, so it is a really quick read. I felt this book was a great starting point for anyone wanting to learn more about the possible “impending doom” of 2012. Dr. Hundley does not go into in depth details of each event, but gives the reader enough information to decide for themselves what to believe and what to dismiss. All can be easily Googled for more information. He does though give an unbiased opinion of each, something I find hard to come by in similar books.
I especially liked the Dr. Hundley included 2 epilogues, one for someone who may be on the fence about their beliefs and one for more devout Christians. The first epilogue is not overpowering as the second for someone who wants to learn more about their faith and become closer to Jesus. The second epilogue gives Christians a clear “food for thought” in how they carry out their everyday lives.
Warning, if you have not seen the movie 2012 and plan to skip pages xiv to xviii. I felt the author gave away a little too much of the movie.
Where will you be in 2012? I asked this question of my co-workers; most said that 2012 will not happen!
But just in case this will be the last night on earth, I will be at my parent's beach condo in Maui Hawaii! I want to see the sun set and watch the Tsunami come take me to Heaven. The wave will look like God's hand coming toward me as I smiled through infinity. I will not panic.
Raymond C. Handley presents the ten theories that are connected to 2012:
1. The Mayan End of their Calendar 2. Solar Storms 3. CERN and the Large Hadron Collider 4. The Predictions of Nostradamus 5. The Reversal of the Magnetic Poles 6. Collision with Planet X 7. Earth's Alignment with the Galactic Plane 8. Eruption of the Super Volcano 9. The Web Bot Project 10. Religious Predictions of the End of the World. Handley did a great job of writing a short fictional sketch before every theory. This is a great way to get into the real implications of the doom that might be coming. He equips the reader with a clear explanation of each of the theories. He also attempts to calm people and clear the "Kultur-Smog" that is 2012. His answer to the looming theories is clearly gospel centered. The book adds helpful information for future study: author notes, bibliography, and group study guide.
I enjoyed reading about the 2012 predictions from different cultures and people. I especially liked the epilogue, which included a plan of salvation to make yourself ready when the world is destroyed. I also liked how the author included Bible verses in some of the text, but not overwhelming the book.
I usually don't read non-fiction because I think it's boring and too much like a history class, but Will the World End in 2012? relates to what is going through so many people's minds today, including myself. At times, the dialogue was a little dull, and I had to skim read over some sections, but for the most part I was interested.
Hundley mentions people who have made predictions of the world ending in 2012 because of aliens. I think it's laughable that people would actually believe in aliens, but the author presents their cases and others with an unbiased view. When I was in college for two years, I had to read many textbooks that were definitely biased toward one side or the other, which I didn't like. In my opinion, non-fiction authors should write the truth and only the truth, and Hundley successfully accomplished that.
Will The World End In 2012? By Raymond C. Hundley, PH.D. Published by Thomas Nelson
In this sobering examination of today’s top ten 2012 doomsday theories, Dr. Raymond C. Hundley investigates the speculation and claims of scientists, theologians, technologists, ancient prophets, and even an alien conspiracist. Analysis of each theory is provided along with the creditability and probability of the “events” occurrence on or around December 21, 2012.
Dr. Hundley’s simple, straightforward evaluation of each theory is unclouded by personal judgment or bias. The reader is provided with information and encouraged to make their own conclusions based on the facts of each contention.
It goes without saying, these predictions for the end of the world as we know it will inspire serious contemplation at the very least. For some, there will be anxiety, perhaps panic; for those who have received salvation through Christ Jesus, security, peace and comfort.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided to me by Thomas Nelson.
In this book the author researches 10 different possible end of the world scenarios. They are: The Mayan Factor, Solar Storms, CERN and the Large Hadron Collider, The Predictions of Nostradamus, The Coming Reversal of the North and South Magnetic Poles, Collision with "Planet X", Earth's Alignment with the Galactic Plane, Eruption of the Super Volcano, The Web Bot Project, and last but not least Religious Predictions of the end of the world.
Now it never really answers the question Will The World End In 2012? but I think that this book was very well thought out and researched. Glad to have read it. There was very good points to each scenario that would point one way or another. I never knew there was more than the Mayan calender ending, so that was surprising to learn about. I read this book all in one day, so was a pretty quick read.
I overall was disappointed in the book. I was expecting to see proof that each scenario was untrue, but some he actually supports more. So without it answering the question specifically it is kind of misleading in it's title.
This book is thoughtfully written and author's thoughts are supported by scripture. He gives ten theories of apocalyptic events and includes scientific theories and probabilities.
This is an easy read and quite enjoyable. The book presents basic information for someone new to the "End of the World" hype. The author's approach is to examine possible scenarios for the end of the world and does so through philosophy, science, and science fiction, essentially breaking down the threats into bite size pieces.
It is a Christian book, therefore the author, Raymond Hundley, adds his philosophy (and that of Christian faiths) that the book of Revelation foretells of the end and the Second Coming of Christ.
All in all, good book. Enjoyed the journey.
This book is from Thomas Nelson and was provided for review as part of their BookSneeze program.
If you are the least bit curious about the topic of Doomsday, or prophecies in general, then read this book. Despite being a christian book, I find the scientific and factual approach to this book fascinating. The book didn't challenge my faith in any way or change what I believe about 2012, but there was an abundance of interesting content on it. Based on both views, end or no end. Non-believers and believers will all enjoy this book. Here is my favorite part of the whole book, and ironically it sums up how I feel after reading this book; In light of Jesus's teaching that no one knows when the end of the world will take place (Matthew 24), it is surprising that Jack Van Impe and others would make such a claim. ~Page 133.
I’ll be honest, I picked this book to review because I was intrigued by the subject. I think the world has become obsessed with the idea that the world will end in December 2012. We have all these theories and I thought it would be interesting to not only read about them from a Christian stand point, but logical one as well.
That being said, this book was… interesting.
Overall, I did enjoy reading about the different theories, some of which I had never heard. I felt that the author did a great job in logically pointing out the flaws in some theories, but also pointed out what could happen.
The book ends with a conversion chapter and an epilogue for how Christians should handle the topic. Overall, not a bad book and a good resource for Christians wondering how to deal with this subject.
While many will not get caught up in the theories of the end of the world, there are still some people out there who think the world might end this year (2012). This booklet briefly lays out some of the theories/thoughts/research that some point to as the reason that the world will end in 2012. But as a Christian, I don't need to live in fear of the end of the world. This booklet clearly points out the hope of Christians and it ends in a great chapter of how a person can have that same hope. Admit our sin, believe in Christ as the son of God who died for our sin and ask him to be our lord and savior. This is a very small booklet and could be used as a witnessing tool.
I love how this book based on 10 areas from mythology; scientific; religious aspects with his final predictions or conclusions and preparation for what is to come.
I also talked briefly on www.blogtalkradio.com/Adrienna-Turner show on Midnight Hour on the basis of this book and "Unleashing the Spirit" my unpublished manuscript.
