but otherwise a bit too misery porn. Given that the title is The Last Days of the Storyteller, I don't think it is giving anything away to say that the novel ends with the old man dying. But in terms of how he gets to that point, well, it's just one awful thing after another with very little point to it. The novel's blurb is that it tells the difficulties faced by storytellers in competing with the modern age of radio but that oversells it as it figures maybe in one chapter out of the whole. A decent read, but not earthshaking.
