Struggling with ADHD and always in trouble, Liam felt like a lost cause. Until a puppy called Aero turned his life around.
Liam Creed seemed like a lost cause. He was excluded from school more times than he can remember, his outbursts got him into trouble, he faced a constant struggle with medication, and his family were driven to despair. All because he was born with an inability to sit still and concentrate: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Liam thought his life was destined for failure. Until, one life-changing day, he met a mischievous bundle of energy called Aero. Aero and Liam developed a special bond. As Liam struggled to train the mischievous dog, for once he didn't feel useless and afflicted. Against the odds, Liam made an inspirational breakthrough in his own condition and learned to believe in the future.
What started as a book about ADHD and dog training didn't really tell you much about either. Readable but only in the way that some pub grub is edible, if it had been a longer book I probably wouldn't have finished it. Sorry Liam.
I enjoyed this book because it was about a kid with ADHD which I have. I liked the way he made friends with his dog and the other kids on the show. It had some very funny bits in it which I liked.
"[...].It would be easy for me to blame all my bad behaviour on being ill, but I try not to use it as excuse -like any kid, when I'm being bad, I know I'm being bad. The point about ADHD is that things tend to happen before you've had much of a chance to make an educated decision on what you're doing, [...]."
A humourously written, realistic and moving account of an adolescent boy struggling with ADHD (and therefore with parents, teachers, and girls). Being given the charge of training a dog for helping people with disabilities helped him a great deal, and this books tells you how and to what extent.
This is not my usual sort of book. But I guess one of the perks of working in a public library means that you can grab something on impulse just because it crossed your desk. Whatever the reason was I started reading this book, which meant that unless it was atrocious I was most likely going to finish. And finish I did, so you can work it out for yourself.
I found this a good book to read and thoroughly enjoyed it but noticed Liam's behaviour was not as bad as I expected it to be. To me it seemed just like a troubled teen finding his way in life but in saying that it did give me an insight on ADHD.
Engaging and heart warming book. Easy to read, suitable to many ages. Especially suitable to anyone who loves dogs, or anyone working with special needs children.
Komt niet vaak voor dat ik een boek weg leg. Maar hier kwam ik na 100 pagina's echt niet verder. Als je elke keer "ik" weghaalt, blijft er geen boek over.
