Phoenix Force commando Rafael Encizo has vanished in Mexico while on a personal quest for his long-lost brother. His trail leads to the remote jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula, which becomes a savage hell zone as the Force launches a search-and-save mission.
Knowing that Encizo is on a deadly collision course with a Mexican terrorist army, the men of the Force cut through the constricting tentacles of the KGB to sweep the jungle in kill-mode. But this time they are on their own - with no presidential sanction, they simply can't risk capture!
Phoenix Force is a series of action-adventure novels first published in 1982 by American Gold Eagle publishers. It is a spin-off of the Executioner series created by Don Pendleton.
Phoenix Force is one of two neutralization teams working for Stony Man, a top-secret anti-terrorist organization. As with The Executioner, the Phoenix Force novels have been written by a succession of authors under the pseudonym Gar Wilson. In 1991, Gold Eagle combined Phoenix Force with another Executioner spin-off series, Able Team, and launched the Stony Man book series, which is still being published as of 2005.
Author behind the Wilson name for this one is William Fieldhouse, one of the best of the Bolanverse writers. This is a fast, fun read with two POVs, Rafael trying to find his brother, who is a communist Cuban captain training terrorists at a secret base in the Mexican jungle, and the rest of the Force going after the base when they find out about their partner's personal mission. The two story lines merge near the end to a satisfying conclusion.
I know these books are basically trash, but the good ones are better then a cheesy 80s flick with the same feel. I really enjoy this series and recommend this chapter of the saga.
Wonderful action, great scenes as it showcases mainly Encizo for a time as he vanishes while hunting for his long-lost brother, Raul. The Force must follow him and in doing so not get caught since they're doing this without the okay of the President.
