A renowned ski instructor, poet, and novelist presents proven techniques for transforming fears into positive energy by showing how the mind, body, and spirit can work together to promote trust and affirmative action, which will help us to rejuvenate our lives and unleash the power of surrender to live in the moment. 12,500 first printing.
I read this years ago and found value in it for where I was at in my ski development, which is why I gave it 3 stars. I found it in a drawer and decided to give it another go, this time thinking about the Yikes! zone with my mountain biking. I didn't find it to be transferable and, instead, found the storytelling to be tedious. It seemed like Blakeslee spent so much time telling about her various ski clients and not getting to the meat of the valuable gems for surrender and trust when in the Yikes Zone. I found myself skimming most of the book, looking for a few gems and, finally, to picking it up for a chapter or two between other books. I just couldn't stick with it.
Hmm, I read this book after reading review after review that it cured people's fear of skiing. Indeed there's a lot of great ideas here on how to rethink your fear, how to reshape it, change your inner dialogue, and work your way towards success in skiing. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone NOT having a fear of skiing. You will be very bored! Also there's quite a bit of bad language, specifically the Lord's name in vain. Otherwise, I think it will help me the next time I go skiing :)
