Patsy is a bookish woman who loves words and has a penchant for dark chocolate sorbet. Since spelling bees in grade school, childhood Scrabble games, right up to her current addiction with Words with Friends she has been known to spell it out, to say it like it is.
Much to her surprise Patsy has written a stack of books that continues to light her passion for the printed page. And nothing pleases her more than to share her faith through laughter and tears and to encourage others to flourish.
A former agoraphobic Patsy never imagined the expansive plans God had in mind for her. She just wanted to make it to her neighborhood grocery store and safely home again. Instead, for the past 35 years she has been traipsing throughout the U.S. and Canada, interspersed with trips to Israel and Africa and she has even spoken at the Pentagon for the Flag Officers Bible Study. Patsy has spoken to millions of women (and men) offering spiritual and emotional hope.
Patsy has written books in several genres including devotional, fiction, children’s, and gift offerings. She is one of the founding speakers at Women of Faith and trains people for the platform.
Patsy is the author of over 35 books best-selling books and currently lives in Franklin TN.
The author's wit and humor breathed new life into an old book, making it a fresh and captivating read. Each chapter left me pondering life's big questions thanks to the insightful prompts and carefully curated Bible verses at the end. Rather than devouring it all at once, I savored the book, reading a chapter or less each day and using it as a daily meditation guide. The author's words resonated so deeply with me that I found myself carrying a positive message with me long after I put the book down. It's safe to say that this book has earned a spot on my "to read again" shelf, and I can't wait to revisit it in the future.
I’m glad I persevered through to the end as there were lots of wonderful nuggets of wisdom here even though I felt some of the humor was corny at times.
This book is my first introduction to Patsy Clairmont, but it won’t be my last book!
In Kaleidoscope, Patsy shares her humor, which makes you laugh so hard you get tears in your eyes, and witty insight into portions of Proverbs in a way that you go away with a whole new perspective.
Patsy starts each chapter with a short Proverb, and draws you in by relating a story either about herself or others that intrigues you (usually hilariously). By this time, you are hooked to see how it turns out. She gently guides you into the truth of the Scripture she is expounding on; a fresh insight that you’ve probably never seen before.
The chapters are short, but she holds you accountable through her ‘Bits and Pieces,’ and encourages you by “Held to the Light’ additional Scriptures that fit the chapter theme. I know I was convicted in many of the areas she wrote about. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read this book at this time in my life.
Patsy’s book is humorous, witty, convicting, and truthful all boiled into one. You can use it as a personal journey to enhance your walk with the Lord or in a Bible study group of your close Christian friends or new believers, in your home or church.

Kaleidoscope by Patsy Clairmont is a witty and insightful journey through the book of Proverbs. Chapter by chapter, Clairmont presents a unique look at 32 of some of the lesser-known verses in the book of Proverbs. Her style is direct yet lighthearted, giving a balanced feel to the book and the lessons contained within.
The thing that I liked best about Kaleidoscope is that the author chose to deal with verses outside of the "norm." There are a handful of Proverbs that seem to get all the attention while others simply go unnoticed. Clairmont digs out some of the nuggets that tend to get overlooked by many other authors. Her sense of humor and unique perspective make the book a joy to read. The short chapters allow the reader the ability to pick up and put down the book when necessary due to time constraints, but the flow and enjoyment factor sucked me into reading for long periods of time. I didn't want to stop reading!
For an unexampled look at the book of Proverbs, I highly recommend Kaleidoscope.

This book is great! Each chapter is funny, short - around 3 pages - and has a great point! At the end of each chapter there are questions to get you thinking about what you just read to apply it to your own life along with several applicable Bible verses.
Each chapter is introduced by a different proverb followed by a personal narrative written in Patsy Clairmont's humorous way. I found myself laughing out loud while reading this book. Since the stories are applied to the proverb, it gives a new and memorable way to apply that proverb to your own life.
I think this would be a great book to use for a women's small group. The chapters are short enough that no reading ahead of time (homework) would be necessary; a chapter could just be read aloud when ladies arrive. And the questions would build intimacy among the group members.
Another perk of this book is where the applicable Bible verses are listed, it is not just the reference, but the actual Bible verse with its reference. That is a big bonus for me because I want to stay focused, not get distracted in trying to find a verse or spend a lot of time flipping through the Bible. This way, the verses are right there for you to study.
This is my third review from a book provided by Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for writing a book review.
A kaleidoscope offers us a multitude of colors and shapes as we turn it and face the light. Patsy Clairmont has let us see the book of Proverbs as a kaleidoscope - turned toward our own lives, and held up to the light. Scripture combined with wisdom and personal stories, as well as reflection questions and complementary Bible passages, provide a daily devotional that can easily be expanded to a group setting. There are thirty-three chapters, making it easy to read once a month.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Each chapter is a short glimpse into a Proverb that is easy to read and apply. The added questions really make you think and ponder how it fits into your life, making this book wonderful for personal or group study. I found myself wanting to read more, breaking out my Bible to read the context of each verse. Good books encourage you to learn, to dig deeper, and Patsy Clairmont has a hit on her hands! I plan to give this as a gift, to recommend it to ladies' groups, and to re-read it as a personal devotional.
Patsy Clairmont describes a kaleidoscope as "a simple tube of mirrors filled with pebbles or beads". As we hold it up to the light and peer through the pinhole at the end, we see amazing colours and designs we didn't know existed.
Patsy likens the book of Proverbs to a spiritual kaleidoscope. As we peer at the seemingly random statements that make up this book, Patsy helps us see "God's wit and wisdom in a whole new light". In each of the thirty-three short chapters, she zeroes in on a proverb, spins it and looks at it from different refreshing angles.
Her delightful brand of humor seasons the message of the proverb with stories from her own life and I found myself chuckling as I read. Each chapter ends with Bits and Pieces, a number of soul-searching questions to get you to dig deeper and apply the proverb to your own life. Held to the Light offers a kaleidoscope of varied Scripture verses that connect loosely with the proverb. Written in a conversational tone, you could easily read this book in a day or two, but I used it along with my daily devotions
I received this book years ago as I was suppose to review it on my blog but my life sort of fell apart around that time and it got packed away only to resurface again recently. I found myself relating to Patsy in a lot of her struggles and her personality and enjoyed learning more about the proverbs and applying them to day to day life in a way I could understand. The questions asked at the end of the chapters really help to make you think and challenge you...in a good way. I don't think I could have gotten out of it in years past what I was able to get out of it now and I'm sure in the future I'll be able to read it again and get much more out of it then I could now. I really like how the chapters were broken down and Patsy had a good sense of humor.

I really enjoyed this book about Proverbs. I had read Proverbs entirely before taking on this book and I found it helpful in some of her lessons. I was familiar with the ideas being discussed.
