Pursuit of Glory

Rate this book
Renny, the daughter of the High General, is young and brave, but also a brat in need of strict guidance. Following an embarrassing incident in front of the king whom her father is sworn to serve, she runs away from her father's firm chastisement. She stows away on a ship, only to discover that she has ended up aboard the flagship of her homeland's navy, captained by Admiral Logan Liam—her father's rival, who only knows of one way to handle unwanted guests on his ship. But, over the course of the voyage, his fondness for her grows, as does his realization that she will always require a firm hand, frequently applied to her bare bottom.

Despite his best efforts, Logan and Renny are soon swept into the heart of a growing revolution against the cruel and brutal king. As the danger around them grows, so does their bond with one another, but can that bond endure through the events ahead?

Pursuit of Glory is set in a fantasy-world that highly resembles Earth in the late 18th Century.

Where do I begin? I purchased the ebook weeks before finals. Regrets? NONE. This book made me hug my pillow and squeal with excitement through every beautiful page. Seriously, I have not had this feeling since falling in love with Patrick Swayze in The Outsiders.

Every bit of the story flowed together and the spanking scenes were hot. I really appreciated that there was a story (dear God, so much story!!!) since many of my fetish purchases lately have read like a Taylor Swift song. I do not like reading the same tired story over and over again with the same tired spanking scenes. Here is what makes this book different:

1. Spanking not for sexual gratification. Logan actually gives a damn about Renny and, yes, he does have some naughty thoughts. However, I love how freaking professional he is about driving in a lesson.

2. Spanking not for filler. Seriously, the tedium of this wears thin when every page is committed to discipline. Pursuit of Glory has fabulous dialogue, spaced moments of discipline, and lovable characters. I love any story with a naval component; I felt like I was journeying with the characters!

3. Love. Plain and simple. I have spent waaaay too much time dreaming about my Logan Liam. Thanks for ruining me Korey. :)

Anyone interested in this domain of fiction should grab a copy of Pursuit. I had a difficult time finding one, but it was worth the hunt. I'm so obsessed that I have found time to thumb through my favorite parts of the book (all of it) every day since the glorious purchase. If there was anything I could cry or beg for, it would be another story similar or a follow-up. In the words of Lorelei Gilmore--Please, please, please! Seriously, I feel like a stalker now. This book is the Coco to my Bret and I would write a 100 page song about all the things I would do if the author would consider a continuation.

Sigh. <3 Thank you, Korey Mae Johnson!

Pursuit of Glory, by Korey Mae Johnson, stands among the finest historical romances I have ever read. What could have come off as just another historical with a spanking on every page, Pursuit of Glory can easily pass as a mainstream historical romance without one single connection of hand, et al. to the heroine's bottom. That the spanking scenes are so seamlessly interwoven, making this book (as another reviewer said) a romance with spanking in it, rather than a spanking romance, thrills me no end!

Renny escapes her father after he brutally chastises her for criticizing the king, and she stows away on Admiral Logan Liam's ship. At 18, she thinks she knows it all, and she happens to know a lot, having studied at her father's knee for many years. This is where Renny gets into most of her trouble, but in her we also see an aching need to be needed, and to garner the glory she thinks she deserves if only someone would give her the chance to prove herself. The author did a magnificent job in fleshing out the character of Renny so that each of us who were 18 once and wanted to be something to someone, can relate with aching clarity.

The author also creates a sympathetic character in Logan Liam, a tough-minded old codger of immortal soul and little patience with Renny--until he finds himself falling hopelessly in love with her. Other minor characters add fuel to an already glowing fire, rather that act as filler, and all work in unison for the good of the story. There is not one false move in this book, including the bit of sci-fi element, which I found gutsy and creative.

I would read anything by this author any day. I learned from her.

I loved this book! Korey Mae Johnson really hit the nail on the head with "Pursuit of Glory."

Renny is a strong willed, emotional, and intelligent teenager living in a time of revolution and sexual inequality. She was raised by her father to be as quick and nimble as a man, but living in a society that believes that women are ornamental at best, she is never really able to showcase her talents. Renny flees from her father's home and discipline after he chastises her for being too blunt in front of the king. Little did she know that her escape would mark the beginning (instead of the end) of bare bottom spankings!

My only criticism of Johnson's book involves the science fiction part of the story. Renny, like her father and his rival Logan, is an immortal. Her father and Logan drank from some sort of fountain of youth when they found themselves on a deserted island over 80 years ago. This fountain gave them and all of their offspring immortality. Personally, I am not a huge fan of science fiction and found its introduction into the story superfluous. That said, I don't think it detracted from the story, I just don't think it helped it either.

"Pursuit of Glory" is a well written book that would stand nicely on its own without a single spank. The spanking scenes are not forced; a scene isn't constructed solely for the purpose of ending in a spanking. Allowing the spanking scenes to be a natural part of the story makes for a great spanking novel! Korey Mae Johnson wrote a gripping story about a smart, witty, and bratty young girl who sparks a revolution and manages to make a difference, even though she ends up with a smarting bottom more than once in the process. I highly recommend this book!!

I absolutely loved this book!

It was so action packed, it was nearly impossible to put down.

Renny was the best heroine I have read in a long time.

Smart, capable, brave, capable of making life or death decisions, with a good heart to match.

Unfortunately, she lived in a time where women were not considered equals. This caused a lot of problems for the feisty young woman, who was just as good as any man- actually, better.

Because of this, she received many intense punishments. (The spankings were so delicious.)

She was a great heroine. One of my favorites.

This story was written so well, with such wonderful descriptions, that I was able to immerse myself into it.

It was a truly great story!

This is a great story set in a fantasy-world on Earth in the late 18th Century about a girl who after an embarrassing incident in front of the king her father chatises her so she runs away and stows away on a ship. Except the ship she choose Captain is fer fathers rival and not one to take kindly to someone hiding out on his ship. He knows just how to deal with bratty young ladies and proceeds to do just that many, many times as renny can't seem to keep herself out of trouble. This book has a little bit of everything from adventure, intrigue and yes ramance and lots of spankings.

This full-length novel is very big on story, in addition to very hot and enjoyable scenes. Took it with me to the gym, and it made the time on the treadmill fly by! The book is a historical with a fantasy edge, so it made for really intriguing reading. I enjoyed it very much!
