I bought a decently used copy of this book for a purpose similar to its intended purpose. I wanted to prepare for playing an text-based online multiplayer game (MUD) called Ansalon that's heavily based on the Dragonlance universe.
The first half of the book introduces geographic regions giving interesting bits of information about that makes it easy to learn about each and also compare and contrast with other regions. there's a narrative story told in short chapters during this section. I enjoyed the story which helped prevent the "facts" from getting too dry.
Then it dove more into history which was a times fun and exciting to read and others it went too quickly to be easily followed.
As the book progresses it gradually loses the sense of being well structured and written and becomes a dump of facts. As a casual reader it lost me. Will be good to refer back to as I get into the game though.. and I plan on picking up the DragonLance Chronicles which I believe will give me a better feel for the world.
