one of those academic books where the author mostly quotes other more eminent academics and what they thought. extremely abstract, with few guiding concrete examples. really seemed to miss the mark in some places and stopped seeming worthwhile to parse the writing. Some good food for thought though.

Definitely worth reading. Very interesting, but a bit outdated, at least in regard to the anthropological and archaeological theories used in it.
