A reference book and an entertaining read, this book informs everything you need to know about owning, breeding, raising and loving Shelties. Photos to help groom, or birth puppies... genetics explanations... information on tracking, obedience, fly ball, agility and conformation showing... A definite investment worthy of being on many different bookshelves through my life's journey.

I read this back in 1994 when we got our first Sheltie. I enjoyed reading this book about one of my favorite breeds. Lots of information on the origins of the breed, grooming, selecting a dog, and different genetic disorders to look out for. Also some beautiful photos.

It's probably a book more for the breeder as a lot of it I didn't need. However, it was great to learn how to properly groom a Sheltie, and what stages they'd be going through as they age.

I of course loved learning about my favorite breed, I have read this over a few times, when Elke was pregnant my dad made me read every chapter tht had anything to do with puppies, that was when I knew, I was never going to that on my own!

Definitly better if you're into showing and breeding, but as a pet owner of a Sheltie, it was still educational and fun to read a book so focused on the breed I have vs. a general dog book. A good reference book for Sheltie owners!

This is supposed to be the Sheltie bible, but I found it to be virtually useless for myself as just a pet Sheltie owner.
