For twenty-seven-year old witch Minnie Wells, when it rains murder and mayhem, it pours.
Minnie has high hopes for a relaxing weekend at a brand new, Jane Austen themed wellness retreat with her vampire beau and her paranormal co-workers from the tea room. A renovated manor house, stunning countryside, and farm fresh, chef-prepared cuisine —what could go wrong?
But Minnie’s zen is zapped when a vampire hunter shows up with his sights set on her fanged bestie, a fellow attendee is found dead in her locked room, and the whole group is trapped inside, without power, by a torrential storm.
When Minnie pieces together the clues and discovers the woman’s death was anything but natural, it’s up to the amateur sleuth to throw the vampire hunter off the trail, and catch the killer before they strike again. But with everyone keeping secrets —even her friends—this budding witch will have to summon all her mindfulness and magic to shine some light on the truth.
Can she solve the whodunnit and keep her friends safe, or will the murderer strike in the dark, making Minnie their next target?
In the 8th entry in the Vampire Tea Room series, Min, Fritz, and all the butlers at the Tea Room head to a wellness spa resort outside Bath for a comped media weekend. The spa is ready to open and is doing a Jane Austen weekend. There are a number of other members of "the press" there (social media influencers and bloggers), and shortly after they arrive, a murder occurs. Combined with a torrential rain storm, the group is trapped at the spa and the police have no way to get inside. Of course, Min and her friends investigate the murder, and virtually everyone attending seems a potential suspect.
I'm curious to see what happens in the next book with Kurt the vampire hunter, as he definitely seemed at a potential turning point at the end of this book. I was also happy Prescott, the annoying police detective, wasn't able to get to the spa, as I've disliked his presence in the last few weeks.
A Bitter Blend is Book 8 in the Magical Tea Room mystery series by Erin Johnson.
This book was SO good! I love when the story takes place in a different location.
Minnie, Gus, Fitz and all the staff from tearoom gets to go to a soft opening for a new Jane Austen retreat all expenses paid. When one of the guests is murdered, Minnie starts to investigate.
This was such a well written mystery; I was guessing all the way.
An unexpected guest shows up at the retreat and really puts a damper on things. I love how Minnie and Fitz's relationship is moving along.
The end left me so surprised a really good twist and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.A Bitter Blend by Erin Johnson has a lot going on in only a couple of short days within the book. Will Minnie have the relaxing weekend she wants? Or is everything doomed from the start? Minnie Wells, Fitz, Gus, and the rest of the butlers from the tea shop spend their weekend at a wellness retreat in Bath's countryside. They all except to have a fun retreat while learning the values and how Jane Austen handled her wellness back in the Regency era. Minnie was all on board with this weekend's plans until she saw Kurt, the vampire hunter and, of course, a fellow attendee of this wellness retreat, dead in her room.
It's up to Minnie, Fitz, Gus, the butlers, and Yasmine to find out if it was indeed an accident, if someone wanted that attendee gone, or if it was a case of mistaken identity. I have to say having Minnie solve the case with her friends' help was splendid and a vast difference from her last points. Minnie gets better within this installment and sees how she should let people handle things independently instead of coming to their rescue.
The Mystery Minnie and her friends discovered that a fellow attendee of this soft opening of the wellness center is deceased in her room, and the police can't help with the investigation as a terrible storm is coming. It's up to Minnie and her friends to find out what happened. I have to say that I figured it out, but I talked myself out of it because it didn't make sense. Until it did when the killer was talking. A lot happens in this installment, and I don't want to spoil it. Though I have to say, how will Kurt and Minnie's situation change?
Five Stars A Bitter Blend by Erin Johnson is another excellent installment of this series, and I can't wait to see what else Ms. Johnson has planned for this series. Well, if she intends to wrap it up in a cute bow or have it continue into another series? I love how each one interconnects, as it's just so wonderful. My rating is five stars for A Bitter Blend by Erin Johnson, and I recommend it to anyone that wants to read it.
I did miss Tilda, though, as she isn't in this installment which is sad since I love her banter with Minnie.
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of A Bitter Blend by Erin Johnson.
This is the eight in this paranormal series set in England. Minnie Wells is a witch and works marketing at the Butler Café, a tea house in Bath.
The crew stays at a new inn in the countryside. They are there to experience its wellness offerings in order to more accurately recommend them to their clientele.
A crotchety old woman, Irene, is murdered and the crew is on the investigation since a bad weather event prevents the police from investigating thoroughly.
I enjoyed the story and the revelations about vampire hunter Kurt, Gus and Fitz. I loved that it took the characters out of Bath and allowed them to interact more with each other than worrying about running the café.
The series just keeps improving. I look forward to the next story. I received an advanced copy and am not required to leave a positive review.
Minnie and her gaggle of friends and co-workers are off to a spa retreat with a Jane Austin themed weekend. Her boyfriend and best friend are both vampires. What can go wrong when the local vampire hunter decides to book a room for that weekend? Add internet influences and bloggers and a grouchy old woman, intrigue among the owners and their staff... so much for a relaxing spa weekend. These characters are like family! They are so much fun to spend time with. Can't wait for the next book in this series!
The whole tea room gang goes away for a wellness Jane Austen retreat and gets involved in sleuthing when one of the other guests is murdered. Minnie and Fitz are starting to move forward while an expected relationship starts to progress. Minnie is put on the spot about her meddling and her powers, but she uses both to save the day and her friends. An unexpected twist toward the end should lead to some interesting future conversations and adventures.
As usual a good story. It's like visiting old friends, and I really enjoyed reading the story, I wanted it to last longer to stay with them, and I wanted it to end so if know how the plot ended!!!! Looking forward to the next in the storyline e.😍
I am enjoying this series. All the characters are wonderfully great. The atmosphere is always gorgeous. The story is always fulfilling. There is always questioning of who you think is the killer. I love this series.
Another wonderful and fun addition to a fun series. Minnie, Fitz, Gus, and the butlers go away for a comped weekend getaway at a Jane Austin Type Wellness Retreat before the grand opening. The owners want the Tea Room advertise the retreat to their customers. But, the first night there, one of the guests dies. Since its almost a "locked room" murder, Minnie and friends snoop er...sleuth for clues all while trying to keep a vampire hunter from discovering their secrets. If you've not read the previous books, you will still enjoy this book. But, its so much more fun to start at the beginning and you will know why this book is such a fun addition to the series.
Minnie and the group head out of the tea room for a weekend away at a new wellness retreat. Gorgeous countryside, pool, yoga, nature hikes, gourmet food, what could go wrong? Well with Minnie, there has to be a murder! A vampire hunter that gets more than he bargained for, no power, and a torrential storm. Just a lovely weekend! Enough twists to keep things interesting and a nice change to be away from the tea room.
Everyone is heading to the soft opening of Bulbrook Grove Wellness Spa. A free weekend offered in exchanged for promoting the new business. Gus drove Minnie and Fitz and the butlers were meeting them there. Of course, Fitz is worried leaving the contractors alone at the tearoom, but Minnie assures him everything will be fine. They couldn't open with the renovation and plumbing work being done anyway, this will be the perfect getaway for Minnie, Fitz and the guys.
The first people they meet are Eleanor 'Ellie' Chang, one of the owners and Florence the manager. Minnie overhears a bit of an argument as they are waiting to check in. They also briefly meet Bobby Chang, the other owner and Ellie's husband. He's a famous chef and this is a new venture for them.
Once checked in Gus is lead to his room first and then Minnie and Fitz. They are sharing a room for the first time.
Although Minnie was expecting it, the king size bed has both of them uncomfortable and a bit awkward. The conversation she has with Tillie on the phone is hysterical and then there's some intrigue when they see another guest out the window rushing from the stable followed by Bobby and Florence.
However, nothing compares to the dismay when they discover Kurt, the vampire hunter, is staying there for the weekend as well. So much for a relaxing time.
Secret meetings, a suspicious death, a interesting connection between Gus and Kurt, plus a storm that knocks out the power out.
Plenty of intrigue and suspense as Minnie and the crew try to figure out who could possibly be the murderer, while also uncovering other suspicious things. Minnie also gets a hand with her magic from Al's wife, Yasmine.
I really can't wait for the next book in this series.
Another winner! I absolutely love Erin's books and all of her series, but I think this is my favorite and it just keeps getting better. I hope she continues this series longer than her other ones. This time, Minnie, Fitz and Gus are on a road trip to a wellness spa with a Jane Austen theme weekend. Minnie managed to snag a free weekend for them and all the butlers in exchange for promoting the spa to the Bath Butler Café customers. They all expect fun and relaxation, and then Kurt the vampire hunter shows up to complicate matters. Minnie and Fitz are also sharing a bed for the first time and they are nervous. The day after arrival, they have a murder on their hands as well. Detective Prescott shows up, but can't stay, so he puts Kurt and Minnie in charge until he can come back. As Minnie is participating in the activities with everyone and trying to protect all her supernatural friends from Kurt while not hurting his feelings (are they friends too?), she's trying to figure out who the murderer is. This time, however, the whole gang gets involved in snooping, I mean sleuthing and I loved it. All of them working together was like the best way to further the series. Everyone had great ideas or in Yaz's case helped amp up Minnie's magic. Gus gets rather cozy with Kurt in this one and it's brilliant that a vampire and a vampire hunter are getting close and I can't wait to see how it works out.
A Bitter Blend, book 8 in Erin Johnson’s, A Magical Tea Room Mystery. Minnie Well, a water witch is eager to join her boyfriend and boss, Fitz, a Regency era vampire, on a wellness retreat at the new Bulbrook Grove Wellness Center. Complimentary room for them and the rest of the butler staff from the tea room in exchange for mutual endorsements of each ones respective business. Joined also, by her bestie Gus, a fellow vampire, the weekend promises to be one of relaxation and fun. Those thoughts are soon gone when vampire hunter Kurk shows up causing Minnie to be on instant alert for her supernatural friends. What else could go wrong? How about a dead guest? A Bitter Blend is a well written book full of snarky humor that will keep you smiling with each turn of the page. A murder mystery with plenty of twist and turns before we come to a conclusion. Edge of your seat action that will have you cheering out loud for Minnie and the gang. If this is your first Magical Tea Room Mystery, I would encourage you to read the rest in the series, as well as all the other cozy mysteries written by Erin Johnson. You will not be disappointed.
Another instalment of the Magical Tea Room Mysteries, but this time the Jane Austen inspired Tea Room is closed for repairs and Minnie, vampires Fitz and Gus and the butlers are off to an Austin themed comped ‘wellness’ retreat which has just opened. Minnie is looking forward to taking her relationship with Fitz a step further, but all is not well at the historic venue, one of the married co-owners is blatantly unfaithful, but when the inevitable happens it is a cantankerous old lady who ends up poisoned. Nobody seemed to know her well enough to want her dead, so why was she targeted? The suspects include a wellness blogger, an influencer and her intern, a travel writer as well as staff at the resort. Minnie wants to help solve the crime but is distracted by the burgeoning relationship between Gus and Kurt, a vampire and a vampire hunter cannot be a good combination! Kurt is soon on the trail of a vampire who may be trying to recruit humans, but what will he do if he finds out about Gus and Fitz? By working together the team catch the culprit but not before there is another even more gruesome death.
This whole series is amazing and this book doesn't disappoint! Minnie, her boyfriend and vampire Fitz, her best friend, also a vampire, Gus along with the Tea Room staff are invited to the opening of Bulbrook Grove Wellness Center, a Jane Austen themed opening. What should be a very restful, peaceful stay turns into anything but! For one thing, Vampire Hunter, Kurk is also there and it takes everything Minnie has to keep him away from Fritz and Gus. But for some reason Kurk, the vampire hunter and Gus, the vampire hit it off! This can't be good. Then when one of the other guests is found dead in her locked room, Minnie and her crew are on the case! I love the continued development of Minnie and Fitz's relationship. With so many twists and turns and dead ends we are taken on a roller coaster ride the keeps you turning pages until the great ending! I can't wait to see what happens next. This entire series is fantastic and well worth reading all the books in it! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Minnie, Gus, Fitz, and even the guys from the tearoom go for a getaway due to the invitation. They are enjoying the beginning of their trip but there are undercurrents they walk into. Minnie overhears some interesting arguments that have her suspicious, but she doesn't want to get involved. When one of the guests is murdered, it will have Minnie looking into who committed the crime. She also has to deal with the vampire hunter showing up and whom he is getting close to.
It was another fun adventure with Minnie and the guys. It is always fun to get back to this world and forget about reality for a while. I am looking forward to the next one, even though I figured out who committed the crime early on in the story. I recommend reading this book/series, you will there is a character for everyone.
Minnie and her best friend, vampire Gus along with her boyfriend and boss, also a vampire, Fitz are heading to the country retreat, Bulbrook Grove Wellness Weekend. Expecting to enjoy the Jane Austen weekend Minnie is excited to be with Fitz for the weekend and enjoy time away from work. What Minnie is not expecting to see is vampire hunter, Kurt. What is he doing here, Minnie wants to know. When a woman is found dead in her room all guests are asked to stay until the investigation is over. Minnie, worried for her friends around Kurt, begins to investigate herself making sure to keep Gus and Fitz as far away from Kurt as possible. I love this wonderful, magical series and look forward to the next book in the series. This my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
I am a huge fan of Johnson’s books. So I was super excited to be back in Bath, with Minnie, Fitz and her friends. Or not IN Bath this time, but in the countryside, a new Jane-Austen themed wellness resort. We all know Minnie. We know there will be trouble! But in all honesty, I did think the mystery element was ever so slightly slow to start. And I did miss Tilda, who only has a small role in this book. But that was unavoidable, since the story is set somewhere where cats (even familiars) are not allowed. And I did know whodunit and the complete how, which was a bit of a shame. But I have to say, I read so, so many mysteries, that I just recognized what the author did. It’s hard to surprise me when it comes to mysteries.
Minnie, Fitz, Gus and all the tearoom butlers are invited to a weekend at the luxurious Bulbrook Grove for a weekend wellness retreat with activities planned around a Jane Austen theme. A group of people were invited to spend the weekend as guests and in exchange they will promote the retreat in their blogs, magazine articles, or in Fitz's case, at his Jane Austen themed tearoom. The manor is stunning, and everyone is looking forward to having a great time. There's a unique group of attendees and complicating matters, one of them is Kurt, the vampire hunter. At that evening's dinner, there's an unfortunate death. Minnie and her group get involved in their own sleuthing to try to find out what happened. There's as many suspects as there are people in the manor. It seems that many of them had a motive. But was the death planned or was it a mistake? This storyline kept me guessing until the end. I loved this book and it is a great addition to the series. I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
The newest book in the Magical Tea Room Mysteries series finds Minnie, Fitz, Gus and all of the butlers from the tea room, as well as Al’s wife invited to the grand opening weekend of a wellness Regency hotel. Minnie is shocked when she also finds the vampire hunter, Kurt, has gotten himself invited as well. There are several other guests also staying for the weekend. As always, the unfortunate happens and one of the guests is found dead. The group sets out to figure out who and why this happens. There are several plot twists, one of which will be a huge shock to those of you who are well versed in this series! This book has a very sweet ending. Well done!
This series gets better and better. Minnie and the gang go on to a Jane Austen retreat, and this is one where Fitz and Minnie go as a couple. They are having a good time when Minnie finds someone whom she doesn't want to see because he is a vampire hunter and he seems to be hanging out with a vampire, of course he doesn't know it. When all of the sudden there a murder and Minnie and gang have to try to solve it. If you expect me to tell you how it ends, you are wrong, you will have to get the book and find out for yourselves. Ms. ERin is a wonderful writer and her characters are wonderful. Thank you.
These stories usually channel a Regency feeling, but this gem is practically Gothic in vibe! Multiple relationships in peril, a couple of deaths, trapped in the dark with a killer (more than once!), secrets exposed...whew!!!
There's so much going on, the well-imagined murder could have felt quite secondary in the hands of a less adroit author; however, Minnie uncovers the truth from a tangle of deceit. The core characters have depth and personality, and Minnie in particular has both heart and a steely determination to seek justice. I look forward to finding out if she gets her well earned vacation from her vacation...!
Another great installment in the Magical Tea Room mysteries series. Each book is better than the last and the momentum never slows. I really enjoy how the relationships are unfolding and just when you think you know where the story is going there’s a twist. This book was a fun diversion from the Bath/ tearoom setting. The imagery and world building easily took you on vacation with Minnie and the tearoom gang to a wellness retreat/spa. Highly recommend reading these books in order for the most enjoyable experience.
Minnie and the gang leave the cafe behind for a weekend retreat but encounter unexpected surprises which results in sleuthing, magic and danger. Love this series. All the main characters are delightfully interesting, and the suspects also have complex stories. There is some humour as well- particularly with Tilda the cat. Highly recommend this. I received an ARC of this book but voluntarily leave this review.
Not only was a murder solved, but a cheating husband discovered, a fake cancer survivor selling health cures uncovered, but also bribery of a local official allowing contamination of the river which was effecting local farmers. After (vampire) Gus has been freaking his friends out befriending a vampire hunter it turns out Gus & Kurt have fallen for each other. That gets even more complicated when Gus has to show his true self to save Kurt from another vampire.
Highly recommended this series especially if you like mystery and the paranormal. Minnie and Fitz as well the rest Tea Room gang are enjoying a getaway at an Jane Austin style weekend. When one of the guest killed with a deadly mushroom can the work put the killer before they strike again. To add to the stress Minnie's best friend Gus is flirting with Kurt the vampire Hunter, is he playing with fire or will love make Kurt switch teams. Can't wait for the next instalment
Wow! A free weekend at the trial run luxury spa weekend at thee opening of a 5 star hotel. Everyone from the tea house was included. A surprise attendee was Kirk, the vampire hunter. Talk about dreaded news, but, add murder and attacks and you have a very exciting nail biting time for Gus, Fitz and of course, Minnie. This is, in my opinion, the best tea room book yet!
Minnie and his friends are heading to a wellness retreat. But, as always, trouble follows her. Kurt, the vampire Hunter is also in the renovated manir house. And he is been too friendly with Gus. But when a dead body is found they must work together to uncover the plot before anyone else is in danger. Trust and trust will be the key for all of them.
I just love this series and the characters in it! I enjoyed the interplay of the butlers with Minnie and Fitz, now that all secrets are out. I did not see the situation with Gus coming, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Am I wrong to want a wedding for our protagonists? I'm ready for the next book!
Minnie and the gang are enjoying a weekend at a luxury spa, when one of the guests is murdered. It’s up to Minnie and the boys to figure out whodunnit. Oh, and watch out for the surprise romance, you’ll never see coming! Another great read from Erin Johnson.
