Hi there. Thanks for stopping by!

I'll tell you right off that I don't like reading my own bios, let alone writing them. It's like tooting your own horn. But if you're here, then you want to know something about me. So how about I break some ‘writers have a glamorous life' myths first off.

Myth 1: Writers have always been writers.
Not me. I was a licensed cosmotologist for years, and didn't even put pen to paper until I was 30. (with an infant and 3 year old) It took me 3 years to write my first book, and while it taught me a lot, it was dreadful ! Got rejected 6 times flat out. I burned it in the back yard when I sold my 20 th book. I've kept the first pages to remind myself of how far I've come.

Myth 2: writers have a staff to take care of them and their homes while they write.
I wish! I don't have a maid, a cook, or anyone who works for me, except maybe Shelley, who maintains this site. Like most women out there, I do all the cooking, cleaning, bills, shopping, etc. Sometimes I can be seen driving the riding lawnmower over our 2 acres. That's not a complaint. I'm a Marine's wife, and my husband was gone a lot, so I had to do it. I'm the only female in a house of men, so I pretty much rule too. And as the daughter, wife, and now the mother of US Marines, believe me, I can give orders when need be.

Myth 3. Writers work when the muse hits them.
If I did, I'd never meet a deadline. Writing isn't about the muse coming to you; it's about unleashing bottled creativity and giving it freedom on paper. Every writer I know feels a deep internal need to tell their particular story and hope you're entertained. Writers HAVE to write. Yeah, sure, sometimes the creativity isn't moving like we want, but like everyone who faces some problem, I go to my friends and they come through in a punch. By the way, I work at my job from about 7 am till 4, sometimes later if it's going great and I don't want to stop. Weekends are for playing, projects or gardening. I actually love pulling weeds; it makes my mind drift to good places.

Myth 4: Writers get paid oodles of money.
Oodles?? If I did, I'd have a staff and a better-looking office. But I get to go to work in the worlds' sloppiest clothes.

Myth 5: Once a writer sells a book, they can sell anything else.
Want to see my rejection file? I could wallpaper a bathroom with it. To keep selling is the really hard part of this job. However, my idea of a great story isn't often blending with the editors. It's frustrating and often, it hurts, since the books writers create have, without a doubt, a piece of them inside. But then, if you can't take it, then this isn't the business for you.

My second book (#1 being the dreadful one I burned) My Timeswept Heart was a finalist in the Romance Writers of America, Golden Heart contest for unpublished works. I didn't win, but it got my work before my Kensington editor. It came out in '93 and I've sold over 30 since. With numerous rejections in between.

Right now, I'm writing books I've wanted to write for three years, Romantic Thrillers. Think Peacemaker or Chain Reaction with a little more romance in them. Lots of action and danger. After writing books in 5 sub genres of romance, (I get bored easily) this new one is the chance for me to use all this military knowledge I've stored up for years. I've fired weapons, rappelled, ridden in an Armored Personnel Carrier, and did some Scuba diving in the East China Sea. It hasn't been boring, and because I write, it never will be.

Now that my Sergeant Major husband is retired, and my sons are grown and towering over their mother, we get to stay in one place.

How average. I love it. When I feel the itch to move every 3 years, I just redecorate.

Well, its time for me to get back to work. Thanks for visiting. Take a look around the site, drop me a note, even read the first chapter of a new novel, if you like. It's out there for you, the reader. I wouldn't be loving my job if you weren't

Geeze I hated this book! It was slow, irritating, annoying, we’re talking prime wall-banger material here! It’s not that it’s poorly written because there is a lot of go-go-go action but it’s sooooo weak on the romance it shouldn’t be called “contemporary romance” something more like “fiction-suspense” would be more appropriate.

It starts out with this barrage of characters all at once (interchanging between first names and last names to add to the general confusion) which makes it hard to remember who’s who and it flips back and forth throughout the novel about what everyone is thinking/doing and you don’t care! You just want to know about the h/h but there’s not enough info on them for you to feel anything for their relationship. And suddenly they’re having sex and you’re like “hello left field!” -- 8-o They don’t even get together in the same geographical area until nearly 100 pages into a just over 300 page book –way too long! There just isn’t enough emotional development between Jack and Sydney to care what happens to them or believe that they’re in love.

And then there’s the endless military and police speak which grates on the nerves because you either don’t know what they’re talking about or you just couldn’t care less because it’s too much info from a secondary character. It’s like a big book of mish mash filler! Where is the romance!!??

If you’re looking for romantic suspense, don’t read this book. If you’re looking for fiction with lots of government/cop jargon this book is calling your name (!!)

I have to be honest that I put off reading this book even though it sounded good. Then the other day picked it up and was asking myself why I put it off for so long after finishing it. It jumped right in with the main characters and then didn't really stop. I was rooting for the characters not long into the book and just couldn't put it down till finished it. As soon as I was done my sister took it to read as I told her a little about it and she was no more as wanted to read it herself as liked what she heard. She finished it in just over a day. First time reading this author and will look for more by her.

Fast entertaining read with enjoyable characters with a sense of humour which you can't beat in my book. Jack (Marine) & Sydney (Scientist) just seemed to be perfect together. Sydney came across as half cracked but did I ever enjoy her. Secondary character NS agent Cisco and wicks were just as interesting.
Who doesn't like a plot with plenty of action and while I have read many a book with similar plots, this was unique to me when I first read this book many years ago as where all of Amy J Fetzer books when I first started reading romantic suspense.
Was going through all the paperbacks to leave into second hand book store and came across a hand full of her books which I just might read again. For now they are gone back on the shelf.

Fantastic

Dr. Sydney Hale is a down to earth, sexy, intelligent scientist. Marine Captain Jack Wilson is loyal, courageous and determined to find justice for his slain friends. By working together they become the perfect weapon to fight against unknown terrorist and mercenary business men.

I was so disappointed with this. It didn't even feel like it was written by the same author and isn't a Dragon One book as I was ecpecting. I don't mind that except that it felt to me like Naked Truth was going to be the first in a new series so I was a little non-plussed by the totally unrelated storyline in Fetzer's 2nd offering. But never mind. Small matter. What did matter to me, though, was that the sexual chemistry between Jack and Sydney was non-existent. Not because there wasn't any sex but because the romance was so underdeveloped that Perfect Weapon did not even read like a romance.

I had a hard time figuring out why Fetzer wrote this book as it was neither thrilling nor romantic in any sense. Granted, the story started off suspenseful but fizzled out so fast it made me think about the author. For me, a really good book makes me so absorbed in the story I ignore the author until I close the book and start looking for her backlist or check out when her next one's due. In Perfect Weapon's case, I found myself asking what Fetzer was doing giving me a non-romance like Perfect Weapon and what happened to the Fetzer of Naked Truth.

PW just stumbles along with a nondescript villain, a promising hero and a boring heroine. As I put Perfect Weapon away, I am left hoping maybe the next Fetzer will be a Dragon One story. WITH romance. WITH action.

I was going to be disappointed again.

Yikes! What a tangled web of frustrating goodness. I won't bore you with rehashing the plot of the book...for that you can just read the blurb under the title. What I will say is that "Perfect Weapon" by Amy J. Fetzer takes you on a rollercoaster of a ride where half the time you can't tell the good guys from the bad. So if you're a black and white type of person, you'll hate this cuz there's all sorts of shades of gray. And in this case, the gray can get mighty confusing. I found that I had to re-read a number of parts to understand exactly what was happening.

Unfortunately, I cannot give "Perfect Weapon" a perfect five stars because something is really bugging the crap out of me...At the end of the book, Lila Handerson was found in a freezer with two vials of gas, the implosion bombs and her husband's finger with his wedding ring still on. Okay, cool twist. But why the heck would the bad guys leave the vials and bombs there for the FBI, NSA or some other alphabet agency to find...especially when they could sell it for beaucoup bucks or use it themselves? I'd LOVE for someone to explain this to me...PLEASE!!! It just makes zero sense to me.

I was looking for a romance book with a Marine in it and this did not disappoint.

Sydney and Jack were honest, smart, assertive, funny, enjoyable characters. I re-read some of it a number of times. The sex scenes were hot. The dialog between the characters fun and funny. At one point Jack (a Marine) admits he hasn't had sex in a very long time. WOW -- what a difference than most romance novels where the man has had sex with anything that moves. There's one part where Syd chooses to stay with Jack, to which he responds "Ooh-rahh." Loved that -- you had me at "Ooh-rahh"!

I think Fetzer tried to do too much with this book. There were so many layers to the deception and treason, that it got muddled. I'm not even sure Fetzer knew who did what -- it was written as if she didn't. This needed some serious editing.

Overall, a great Summer read.

I really like Amy Fetzer's writing. Compelling plot lines, great characters, and snappy dialogue. The suspense here was so good although I didn't get one thing at the very end about the missing toxins. I like the reality of her suspense. People get caught in traffic, wounds really hurt, guns run out of bullets, but it is still action packed and full of tension. Her romance works well also. Her characters are adults and act like it. They're attracted by more than just sexual chemistry. And they can control themselves. I really liked that Jack and Sydney didn't have sex right away. They talked, they didn't play games, but when they did get together it was great!

This book isn't part of a series. Would love to read Cisco's book though.

While i'm not a big fan of characters falling in love overnight, I liked this book. Maybe it had something to do with the whole saving the world aspect or the fact that the heroine didn't love the guy for being a killer (in the military... same thing!)but i found myself liking the book the more I read along.
The cuteness of the characters also grew on me. It's kinda refreshing that they found time to be cute with each other while running for thier lives and trying to stop a mass murderer from releasing the toxic gas.
It would have been a better book if her editor was paying more attention, but nothing can be perfect.

An interesting book, if you like to be continually reminded of the strained interfaces among the various American Government, Security and Military departments. The narrative includes several graphic sex scenes that are extremely robust and steamy, to the extent that I can’t help but wonder if they are based on the author’s personal experience - or perhaps more likely to be contained in her fantasy wish list ;)
