My name is Katie and I am a homicide survivor. Not a victim, but a survivor. In late summer of 2019, my husband became the ultimate victim of methamphetamine use and gun violence. At 30 years old, I became a widow to our four children and never looked back. In life there are catalysts that can ultimately destroy a person from a mangled mix of substance abuse, addiction, and violence or these same catalysts can push someone towards a peace that surpasses understanding and the reassurance when it's found. Dan and I had been married over a decade when his life became consumed with one addiction after the next and I was left trying to pick up the pieces. Those pieces were never meant to be picked up, though, and where my story ends with Dan, a new one begins. A story of hope, understanding, and a sense of peace provided by the Lord himself. Until Meth Do Us Part is a story about love and companionship destroyed by substance abuse and addiction. It's a story about familial discord and the ultimate betrayal. It's also a story about refusing to quit and learning to be still. Because that's what survivors do.
