Chrysalis: Tribulations
By M. L. Lacy
From the author of Chrysalis the Awakening comes the second in her series, Tribulations. In her first book we meet Bree, a young girl who, in order to save her clan, her family, she must enter into another dimension or world. Bree is part human and soon will crossover into the Magical Realm.
She is the last Chosen One, the one who is to become the most powerful person in the Magical realm. We soon learn in book two the obstacles she faced before are nothing compared to those she will face as this saga continues.
As the book unfolds, Bree is with her clan and they are discussing the various steps that she will have to encounter in order to keep her safe. However, there are many who would rather see her perish and not succeed.
New members that want entrance into a clan have to pass certain tests before being allowed to join that clan. Background checks, character checks and many other tests have to be passed before the new member is allowed to become part of the clan. But as four new members are given access into her clan, without having to go through the vetting process and against her wishes, this could prove dangerous to her and others in many respects
Bree has several other major obstacles and hurdles to contend with before crossing over to the magical world. First, she has to come to terms with her nightly dreams where she can crawl into the mind of her archenemy and leader of the Council, Esmeralda. Bree, can read her mind, enter her lair totally unnoticed and be able to find out what she plans with her minions in order to destroy Bree, take out her heart takes her blood in order for her to rule. But, can she escape her wrath and what she has planned for her?
She ventures ahead and learns that there are members of her own clan who want to cause her hardship and Bree realizes she has some hard choices to make. Madalyn, who showed her true colors in book one as being a definite adversary for Bree, has her designs on taking over as the Alpha Female and will go to extraordinary lengths to make sure that she overtakes Bree’s role and rules the clan. When Madalyn enlists the help of two other members of the clan and decides to take on all of her clan, the end result will surprise you and endear you to Bree even more.
The author created a character that has intelligence, wit and one you can identify. Not succumbing to the will of others and standing her ground, she will go to any lengths to protect her clan and teach Madelyn a lesson that she hopes she will never forget.
Through the guidance of Odessa, Bree’s guardian, she continues to develop in her destiny. But Odessa is only her guardian, not her teacher and with the appearance of an older wizard, Bree begins to learn her magic in very unusual ways. Aunt Beth, as Bree has now dubbed her, begins the arduous task in teaching a mortal magic. Bree must learn that she has the power to do much more if she draws on her strength and intelligence and reacts wisely.
With Esmeralda at her heels with a new accomplice whose help she has enlisted, and Thomas, her trusty aid, no one knows what the outcome will be or who will survive. Attack from demons come on out of nowhere and Bree’s first husband comes back to haunt and torment her, but with the help of her four men and her protectors she begins to feel safe, but not completely. But, the threat is not over and Esmeralda and more will try to destroy her before all is said and done.
Events occur that forces Bree to stand up to the rest of the clan and make her position as the Alpha and Chosen One stronger and heard. Against their wishes and by breaking the spells her protectors placed on her home to keep her protected inside, she fights and protects those she loves and proves that she has the power needed to lead.
Will she be able to stop Marcus and Esmeralda? Will she be able to undo the damage they have caused? That remains to be seen.
A tribulation is an experience that tests one’s endurance, patience and faith. Bree has to deal with some serious issues and problems and the trials and tribulations that she faces in this novel and in her new life as a Magical will only make her stronger and able to lead her clan. But, whom can she trust and which one of the new members of her clan are a plant and really a spy?
The events that unfold help you to understand the ties that bind families and those that tear them apart. Who is innocent? Who will pay for their crimes? Who will be the one to inflict the justice on those that deserve it? You will have to read for yourself. Many new characters that join the clan and many of her true and dear friends and family to support and tighten the their circle of protection in order to make sure that Bree is safe.

With the guidance of Odessa, her grandmother and her inner strength, Bree takes on those who oppose her and shows everyone that she is a total force to be reckoned with. But, can she succeed in saving her clan and saving someone she loves. Just whom does she risk it all for and what does she do at the end to prove that no one wants to mess with her and she rules? You need to read it for yourself to understand how far someone will go to right the wrongs inflicted on a family, her family, and her clan.
Once again, Madonna Lacy has transported the reader into a world of vampires, werewolves, Magicals, humans and people of many different races and reminded us that her fantasy world is not that different from our real one today. Friendships that bind those together are tighter than the golden ropes used to imprison those that are evil. Those that want power do not always deserve it and those that have the power need to understand how to use it. What will happen next? Will Bree overtake Esmeralda and eliminate her and her minions? Will she ever find true peace and safety? You will have to wait for book three and the sequel to find out.
I give this book Five Perfect Crystals and Five Magic Wands for Bree to Use to protect those she loves.

I just finished reading my notes and review of Book 1 Chrysalis: The Awakening by M. L. Lacy and must quickly say that Book 2, Chrysalis: Tributions has not only surpassed but has moved the series into must-read status for fantasy lovers. Not only has the scope of the story expanded into an exciting novel but the writer has found her pace and style in her second book. Her words flow and pull readers in quickly and completely! Plus her blazing butterfly book cover is fantastic!

One key advantage point for Lacy's series for non-fantasy readers, including myself to some extent, is that her main character, Bree, was born a human, but a Chosen One. There is a background story that highlights why Bree was not brought into her role much earlier in her life; however, for readers, this provided Lacy the capability to explore how humans feel about "people" in the Magical world. Specifically, because of long life, vampires began sharing their mates with others during their lives. Now, for them, it is routine and considered normal. For Bree, however, she is not really interested in sharing her fiancée with anyone and, more importantly, her beliefs and feelings about sexuality are constantly being challenged and then explored.

This struggle for Bree allows non-fantasy readers an easy way to understand and consider "the life" within that Magical world. Whether or not Lacy intended this or not, it was a great benefit for me since I, too, follow Bree's beliefs. Even though that is not endorsing the way of life for Magicals...

While Bree watches, learns, and prepares for meeting her major opponent as the leader of the Magical world, Esmeralda, she also faces a power struggle within her clan. Frankly I'm enjoying the overall power struggle that underlies the Clan's structure...that is, the need for all the men to protect Bree, even though she is the Chosen One...It is funny and sweet...and darn frustrating for both Bree and for some readers to see that the men refuse to recognize her true authority...

Of course she has not yet turned...

And, of course, Bree does what she wants and needs to do anyway...

Bree is like a lot of women, we allow loved individuals to do things that we may not like until we get to the boiling point and "explode" in frustration! She may need to develop a little better control in the future; but it is sure fun to watch her explosions in the meantime! One thing though, she has remarkable skills and knowledge that is constantly surprising everybody, because her strengths and total Magical abilities should not yet have been totally provided...

It seems that even the Magicals don't really understand how much the "elders" have given and shared with Bree, their last Chosen One. Ahhh, but I would have loved to see Esmeralda's face when Bree not only entered her hidden cavern, but also freed the two prisoners that Esmeralda had planned to trade for Bree!

Readers, there is a lot happening in this nearly 500-page novel...it does stand alone; however, I would recommend you start with Book 1 to get that background established. I have a feeling the Chrysalis series by M. L. Lacy is going to go on and on... Don't miss it!

This is the second book in M.L. Lacy's Chrysalis series. Because I enjoyed the first one, I chose to try to keep up with the rest of the series.

First, I have a warning. This is not a stand-alone story, it is most definitely a direct continuation from the previous volume (Awakenings). Anyone choosing to skip #1 will find themselves almost completely lost within the first few chapters of this one.

Although this is a shorter book (page-wise), there is a ton of action, suspense, romance, and mystery packed between the covers. In the first 150 pages, the pace is break-neck. Unfortunately there is a nearly 100 page lull that follows. Once I soldiered past that slow spot, the story lit up like a wildfire.

This installment in the series solidifies the character personalities and roles much better than the first. Ms. Lacy gives he many Magicals and Vampires their own quirks and signatures so that the reader can easily distinguish the players in each scene.

I do have some "gripes" about this one. The spelling and grammar issues from the first book carried over to this one as well. The good news is that book 3 will have a new editing company to hopefully alleviate this issue. Second "gripe" relates to BRee, the main character. Although Ms. Lacy has worked some internal conflict into Bree and shows her getting "beat" a couple of times, Bree isn't vulnerable and frail enough for her still new life. She is way too headstrong and confident when it seems natural for her to have weakness. It also looks like she could destroy the entire bad side of the Magical World without trying, except her men keep holding her back. A team up of Galactus, Cthulhu, and Satan could not defeat her in a head to head battle.

We really don't get far in this development of the characters, situations, story-line. If this is to be an on-going, "Wheel of Time-esque" series, then things are moving along nicely. However, if this plot is to span 3 or 4 books, this one is not moving fast enough. This book resolves 1, maybe 2, major plot threads while leaving most things still open. Who are Bree's other 3 loves? How does she close the portals? How will she get to the demon? Not much resolution at all. I had hoped to get at least one more of her loves revealed in this one.

I know I criticize parts of this book , but that is only due to how much I want to continue this series. I like the characters. I want to know where the story will go. This series has great potential. There are so many directions this can go and I plan to check out the third book when it becomes available. .

M. L. Lacy Has outdone herself with the second book in her Chrysalis series. Chrysalis Tribulations has far surpassed my expectations for this book, and my expectations were pretty darn high since I loved the first book as well....

I won this book through the giveaways on this website.
The story was about a particular clan of vampires welcoming their 'chosen one' into their clan and protecting her as the head of the council seeks to have her murdered.
The main characters were Bree, Steven and Esmerelda. The characters were credible and the story flowed smoothly throughout the book witht the characters relating to today's world as we know it and the fantasy land of vampires.
Bree was the chosen one trying to fit into her new clan and trying to stop dark forces at work killing the people she loves. Steven was Bree's partner also in the clan who's job it was to protect Bree even when she insisted she needed to help. Esmerelda was the head of the council who was very jealous of Bree and was determined on having her killed and turning people against her.
The characters run into many problems throughout the story as Esmerelda increased her instensity of hunting down and killing Bree. I don't think they would have classed it as having an adventure it was more about saving lives and making sure Esmerelda does not get away with her wrongdoings.
My favourite character was Thomas as he was the charater which chnaged my emotions the most as the story progressed.
I couldn't relate to any of the characters in the story but I didn't expect to with it being a story about vampires but it was very enjoyable losing myself in a story which was not remotely like my own life.
I have never done anything the characters did but at times I understood Bree's frustrations.
I really liked this book and am finding it hard to choose a favourite part as it had my attention the whole way through but I think I liked it when Bree started being accepted by some of the girls in the clan.
I think anybody who like the current vampire craze will love this book. I think it is more for girls than boys but my partner will be reading it shortly so I will find out from him!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book after reading the first one. I was hooked big time! In this well-named second book, we rejoin Bree and her clan as they have to overcome several obstacles aka. tribulations.. that keep blocking their way. Some of these challenges come from within the clan while many are just there because Bree is still adapting to the fact that she is "The Chosen One" in a magical world that she never knew existed.

The love story between Bree and her soul mate, Steven continues to strengthen even while she is trying to settle into her role as Alpha female to Bradley's Alpha male. Bree struggles with meshing her human emotions and values with the inner workings and structure of her supernatural and magical clan.

The author does a fine job of building and growing her characters. Although, I would love to know more about the men and just what it is that makes them tick. Especially when it comes to their utter devotion and I guess, addiction to Bree. I have to admit that Bree's character was much more forgiving and generous than I could have been. I wanted to completely throttle Madelyn. She was petty, mean and jealous. If I had been the one with Bree's powers, I'd have squashed her in a big way. (Yes, I really got into the book!) But I did really enjoy Bree and could easily place myself in her shoes. It isn't hard to imagine having similar thoughts and feelings if I were to be suddenly told that I had all of these abilities and everything in my life to this point was a facade.

I don't want to give anything else away for those who haven't had the pleasure of starting this series yet. Ms. Lacy has created a fantastic world with rich characters that I definitely want to read more about. I highly recommend readers start with the first book Chrysalis - The Awakening: Book 1 in order to get the full effect of this entire story.

The second book in the series contains more adventures for Bree. And clearly both Bree and her creator, M.L Lacy, have grown and learned much about their respective crafts and abilities.

Bree now knows of the humans and Magicals, the two co-existing groups on Earth. And she has learned of her destiny as the potential savior of Earth - by righting the wrongs that have happened over hundreds and hundreds of years. She struggles daily to reconcile her human side and her newly awaken Magical side. Unlike other Magicals, Bree was not allowed to learn of the existence of Magicals as a child. The prophecy stated she could not be told until her 25th human year, as she would need a strong connection to human emotions in order to safely and fairly oversee the changes that need to be made to save both groups. They have splintered far apart, largely due to a power-crazed Magical named Esmerelda. over time this evil woman has changed laws for the Magicals as she moves toward to annihilation of the humans, not seeming to grasp that both groups must co-exist or both will die.

Bree has to adjust to the way of life of her new family, or "clan," which goes against her life-long dreams and beliefs. And she also must learn all there is to know about the Magicals, and their history. And then there is the small matter of learning to control her rapidly growing abilities and powers - things that she shouldn't have until after she she undergoes her transformation - assuming she survives to transform and survives the transformation process.

The rthym of the story has smoothed out, and the core characters have gained much more depth and complexity. The only wish I had was that the story moved faster, spending less time on Bree's emotional and inner turmoil. But that could happen in the next book of the series, so I'll stick with it and find out where this ride is going.

Review of Chrysalis: Tribulations ( Book 2: Chrysalis series)
The fae opponents are once again menacing half mortal, half magical Bree in M.L. Lacy’s latest mesmerizing adventure into an alternate world. This is the second book in the series and is certainly as impressive as the first. By adding layers of complexity to her characters and their world, Lacy has taken her gutzy heroine, Bree, through enormous challenges that show her evolution into a very different magical world .
As the newly declared “Chosen One” of a magical realm, Bree continues to build her magical powers and is tested with some of the expectations of her vampire protectors. At every turn, she is forced to protect herself and those close to her from Esmeralda, her opponent who wants control of the clan. In addition, many of her own clan are filled with animosity towards her. She can trust no one, so must rely on her developing magical powers of mind reading, visions and support of her soul mate Stephen. Will this be enough to save Bree and her clan, or will stakes this high force Bree to make choices that will change everything for her magical realm?
In Chrysalis: Tribulations, M.L. Lacy has created a rich complex fantasy world and a satisfying and enjoyable read. Bree’s voice is painfully honest and one finds they are emotionally invested in her growth and evolution as “The Chosen One” and her success with her clan. As she grows into the role, the tension in the story heightens. Plot twists, and action move the story along at a fast pace. This is highly recommended to those who enjoy fantasy novels.

The Chrysalis series continues with the second book TRIBULATIONS and the third book TREPIDATION by M.L. Lacy.

Let me kind of go off the path here to drive a point home. I am a Star Wars fan. However, "A New Hope" is my least favorite. Even though it's the ultimate classic Star Wars movie, it bores me. I am a much bigger fan of "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" (the last is my favorite). The same can be said of the CHRYSALIS series. The first book -- not so great. The second and third installments are wonderful!
Lacy had to develop all of the characters in the first book. While that can be done well (and she did do it well), it is boring. There is not a lot of action and excitement going on. The first book had some, but the second and the third books had more! The books get a hold of you and take you for a ride!
As the story continues in the second and third, we see the main character Bree becoming more accepting of her new responsibilities and powers as the Chosen One.
The challenges she faces increase, as well. Not only does she have to contend with villain Esmeralda trying to wipe her off the face of the earth, but also with increasing tension in her clan as members become jealous of her coveted position. The, she has to deal with a traitor. Who woulda thunk?
The best thing I like about these additional books is that Bree's Mary Sue-ness dwindles. That is awesome! The other thing -- it's fast paced. The third -- it's well written. Lacy might have had a slow start in creating this world, but once she found her wings, she really took off and created something great!
These books both get 4 out of 5 stars from me!

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to read Book 1 of the Chrysalis series by author M.L.Lacy – and I really liked it! Having now read Book 2: Chrysalis Tribulations, I’m finding this series to be one of the best I’ve read lately; so enjoyable!

First and foremost, I would not recommend reading this book if you haven’t read the first one. There is a ton of back-story on these characters and it would be hard to catch up.

When this book begins, Bree has become the Alpha Female of the clan of vampires that has been protecting her all her life. She is still a mortal and has not passed into the “Magical Realm”. Before she can do so, she has to learn and refine her magical powers and prove to her vampire protectors that she is up for the challenge.

As she is learning about her new roles, she is fighting to keep her position from Esmeralda, an opponent who is determined to gain control over the clan. Esmeralda also has several members of the clan on her side and would love nothing more than to make sure Bree never makes it into the realm.

Feeling like she can trust no one, she uses her new found powers to help her maneuver through the sea of those that want to take her down and keep her from following her true path.

Oh, how I love these books! The characters and plot twists that the author creates leave you on the edge of your seat! Highly recommend.

I am reading Book 3 and should have my review out very soon – so stay tuned!

Tribulations is the second book in the Chrysalis series by M L Lacy. The books continues weaving the intricate tale of Bree’s journey into the magical world.

Bree has accepted her role as The Chosen One and has risen to the challenge with great courage. With the support of her soul-mate Steven and the rest of her court, Bree continues on her journey to claim her status in the magical realm, against Esmeralda’s wishes.

As the story unfolds, we come to learn more about the strength of character in Bree and the devotion she has to her family and the courage she has within to sacrifice it all for those she loves. Tensions rise in her clan as Esmeralda strikes out full force at the people Bree loves the most. Kidnapping, torture, demons and of course romance, this book has it all.

This book was another hit for me, although I would highly recommend that you read book one first so that you can learn about all the players in the story. Book two introduces even more characters and I did have some challenges remembering who is who. Many times, after I’ve finished a book I feel as if my “best friends” have gone away. Book two continues to weave a magical tale about the people I’ve come to know in the previous book. This book is truly a companion to book one.

Disclosure: I recieved a free copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest opinion.

Better than the first book and still riveting. I like the strength of the main character, Bree, in a feminist sense. She knows what is right and goes with it.

I hope to get to know some of the men in the clan a bit better since some of them seem to blend together at times. They all seem drawn to the main character and tend to be too much alike in that way--wanting to protect her, just wanting her. What motivates them? What do they do beyond protect her and show up in her home when she needs them? I would also like more mind reading by Bree; those were some of the most interesting parts in the first book--when she peeked at the others' thoughts.

There was less sex in this second book but I expect things to heat up as Bree slowly binds more strongly to her clan. I like that it is the woman who has the many men as her partners for once and have it be okay with everyone...fun to fantasize about!

It would be great to know a little background of Esmerelda. I wonder how she got to be the way she is currently. It would be interesting to analyze her psyche.

There were still a few typos, but nothing that detracted from the reading. I enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward the third book in the series!

The author sent me this book, and I have to say, it was just as good as the first one! I could barely put it down, and time just flew while I was reading it. (For instance, I couldn't sleep last night so after a while I picked up the book, and the next thing i knew it was morning!). The plot for this one was also good, with lots of action, and so many different things were going on that it really kept my interest. This book isn't called Tribulations for nothing, I'm surprised how much conflict was crammed into one book. But most of the problems were worked through in a satisfactory manner (and not with unrealistic fairy-tale-like results). I really enjoyed this book too, and am very happy to add it to my collection.

The only complaint I have about this book is very minor, and it's that once again there were a couple small typos, which it seems like the editor should have caught before it went to press. But otherwise, this book was very good.

Chrysalis The Awakening really is a fantasy story. It has everything from romance to vampires, but has a much more adult feel than other books, like twilight. Because although it is written in a common genre it is a book all of its own. The plot and story line are definitely unique to this book series. M.L. Lacy is a fantastic author, and maes the book flows so well that I read it cover to cover in two days and had the right amount of suspense and mystery to keep me interested in reading. The characters are all so well written and have depth. I would recommend reading this book, 5/5 stars.

This is the second book in the Chrysalis Series. I was a little confused at first because i didn't get to read the first one, but it held my attention anyway.

I loved the way Bree's four men protected her and loved her. It was a little long for me, and there was times I wanted it to just be over, but the end was well worth it.

I LOVED this book, I am in awe of Lacy's writing it is simply amazing. I got this book from the author and I apologize to her for not getting the review up sooner. In the beginning this was my least favorite of the books in the series. But as I got more into the book I didn't want to put it down. I loved the parts where Bree managed to do what she needed to do even with her clan trying to stop her. I loved getting to know more about Thomas. That he did all of that for Bree is amazing. I can't wait to read the other books!

This is the second in the Chrysalis series and is as well written as the first one. Bree's adventures continue as she tries to adjust to the culture of the vampire clan. Esie continues to try to kill Bree and Madalyn, Brad's mate tries to make life miserable for Bree.
