When major league baseball Hall of Famer Fran Robinson was appointed manager of the Cleveland Indians, he became the first African-American manager in modern major league baseball. This is his diary of his first season managing the Indians.
Diary of the 1975 season. If you liked baseball in 70's, you will enjoy seeing all those player names again. It's not too deep and concentrates more on his daily struggles trying to get the players to play better and his never-ending obsession with umpires. Also, Frank Robinson, the manager, doesn't seem to understand why all his players can't be like Frank Robinson, the player. Probably typical of the all-time greats though. However, he does show enthusiasm for many of the up and coming younger players. Overall, he got put into a tough spot having to manage a team that had been mediocre for decades and had an apathetic fan base. He did a good job with what he had though.
Enjoyed reading this book immensely. Got a good idea of what all a manager goes through during that lengthy season, and put that with the other things going on with him that year.
