Vampire Romances #2

Deeper Than the Night

Rate this book
Alternate cover edition of ISBN 050552113X

The townsfolk of Moulton Bay said there was something otherworldly about Alexander Claybourne. Some people whispered that, with his dark arresting features and mesmerizing eyes, the seductive stranger looked every inch a vampire. They never guessed how near the truth they were - or that after more than two hundred years of resisting temptation, Claybourne had found a woman he had to possess.

Never one to be scared off by superstitious lore, Kara Crawford laughed at the local talk of creatures lurking in the dark. What harm could come of befriending the handsome stranger with the haunted look in his midnight eyes? No matter what shadowy secrets Alexander hid, Kara felt drawn to him, compelled to join him beneath the silver light of the moon, where they would share a love

Terrible! Amanda Ashley has been added to my list of authors from whom I shall never purchase another book! Terrible!!! This is how the story went... girl and guy get together, they break up, get kidnapped, escape. The thing is; these sequence of events don't just happen once, but three times over and over. This book was like the movie Groundhog Day. I thought I would go mad reading it.

i was doing fine, until he declared he was an alien from another planet

and that was where it ended for me.

i forget who it's either sparks or sands, i'd have to double check, who claim the nanite thing or something

but this book was flowing just fine, until the alien thing

and that was it for me.

OMG! I so totally love this book and this author...she writes really awesome vampire romances! anyway...Alexander and Kara were like the perfect match...** Spoilers here!!!** i was just getting real frustrated at Alexander and his stubborness!! I mean Kara loved him despite of what he was (an alien vampire????) but he was all like always questioning if she really loved him and then if she would want or be hurt by his child!!! Sometimes i just wanted to hit him over the head with a baseball bat!! But i was glad for the happy ending!!

This being an Amanda Ashley book, and per the description on the back cover, I was expecting a certain type of story. The actual story surprised me, and I still LOVED it! : ) There is a twist, but the overall story is written in what is one of my favorite AA styles, where the H/h are together through most of the book & tho one or both of them have struggles w/ their differences, those struggles don't last relatively long. I enjoy the banter and the lightness of her stories, even when they're dark & gothic. Yes, I know, it's dichotomous! :) Just like me... heh.

This book was horrible. I felt as though I was reading "Interview with the vampire - for dummies". It was basically the same dialogues, same plots, and same character descriptions. horrible book for vampire lovers!!!

This was slightly better than the previous two books that I had purchased and the story had a "bit more go in it" but for me, the start just didn't grab me.... I tried and tried and persevered to the end but it was the later part of this book that actually picked up and was worth reading.

While I normally love Amanda Ashley I do have to say that while decent, this story had way too many similarities to Sunlight, or maybe vice versa because of the publication dates.

I do love her story telling ability but after re reading most of her novels back to back I do need to point out that I am sick of whiny heroines that are freaked out by their vampire/alien lovers. Not all women would faint.I want a book where the lead character is a strong woman vamp! :) Or at least a girl who is like, "you're a vampire? So friggin what?"

Also in this book I noticed that Ms. Ashley has a tendecy towards repeating things, like making the "vampire" a writer. I also am a little tired of the no sex before marriage old fashioned stand point (though this has gotten a little better in her more current novels) and I was offended by the anti abortion propaganda in this book, of which she does not mention in any others. So the main character is anti aborting her alien bf's baby, great, do I need a lecture on how wrong it is and how she's seen what the babies of abortions look like? No.

All in all, my least favorite Amanda Ashley novel. I enjoy many of her other ones a lot more.

This is an intriguing tale of love that is pushed to the edge, making you wonder if Kara and Alexander will ever discover a happily ever after. I love how Amanda Ashley threw in that magnificent twist regarding Alexander Claybourne's heritage.

The only complaint I have is Alexander's little silent temper tantrums when he doubts Kara's love for him. I found myself thinking "God man, she loves you, what more do you want?" Alexander can be dark and menacing, but has that slight girley-man thing going on.

Overall, this book was an awesome read. You'll find yourself smiling as you read the epilogue. ; )

Different

This story was different in good way because it didn't have the typical brooding love struck vampire. No, he is an alien with vampiric qualities. Nice twist to the story it had romance, family orientation, drama I say it was really good

Cute and unexpected...

I was expecting the usual vamp/mortal forbidden love, but this was way better! Had me fussing at the story a few times, like Kara falling for Barrett's Nana-trap! But still a really great read!

I really enjoyed this book, it was delightfully fun, full of adventure and had a sweet love story at it’s center. Amanda Ashley’s writing is engaging, fast paced filled with an enchanting hero and heroine that kept me turning the pages and curious about where their journey would take me. I am extremely curious to explore Ashley’s other paranormal works because this one was an utter delight. I would highly recommend if you like a paranormal that is quick, has some fun twists, has ab on the run and hiding element, has the hero and heroine working together to overcome all the outside obstacles that are continuously thrown in their way.

Disappointing

After reading a darker dream I was expecting great things from Amanda ashley. This was disappointing the characters lacked depth especially the female lead. Started out as a vampire story with a twist he was then an alien and it was going so well up till this point. Repetitive parts of story where male lead continually says you won't want me I'm an alien gets married then repeats the you wont want me narrative (yawn). Supporting characters I felt were just there to fill out the pages and apart from the little sister they lacked any real significance to the story line. Expected better

Really🤨Could not finish. This is the last book of hers that I am going to read. Kara-helpless, stupid, heroine. Alex- handsome alien with superpowers. Even Alex’s superpowers could not save Kara from herself. And just how many times does the evil villain have to threaten and abuse you before you figure out that the best thing for you to do is to get as far away from your family as you can. Poor Kara. She just wants to make sure her grandmother is ok. How selfish can anyone be to lead the “bad guys” right to her family.

Different from the other paranormal romance books, but good!

This was very good! I was very surprised how the author pulled this one off. It's great! The characters are entertaining, and the action is non-stop. The romance is wonderful! All around a great book!

Did not finish. Don't title it a "vampire" story and then change what the main character is after the storyline is already established.

That was hugely terrible.

1. Heroine was truly too stupid to live. She repeatedly puts herself back into dangerous situations. She lets the hero make ALL her choices for her. It reminded me of Twilight, how Hero would just be de facto in charge at all times.
2. Hero is
3. Villain just
4. Religion?
5. Maybe it was just the narrator, but omg, worst narration ever. Hero has an Eastern-European-ish accent, even though it is determined early on that he is NOT FROM EUROPE, and has lived in the US for ... a very long time. Evil Doctor is maybe Irish or something, but narrator can't keep up with the accent through one single sentence.

I really liked this book but for some reason when I was done it didn't go to the leave a review page. It said there was the before you go in the drop down but when I hit it, it just took me to the last page I had read so weird. Had to find it on my good reads books to leave a review. Anyways, I like this author and have read some of her other books and yes i know some people are upset with this book, but I won't say more than its not exacted what they were thinking it was about and yes there is a twist there, but ya know what? I liked it. It didn't make the book any less good forme. It was really well written as are her other books and there were still exciting parts in it and honestly if it had been about what they had thought it was about there really wouldn't have been much if any difference there except in a name.
So four stars for me. I did think there were too many sex scenes, too close to one another that didn't need to go on into as in-depth as they did. Don't get me wrong I like sex scenes, but it just gets old when it's so often. I'd much rather they have some good dialogue there instead and a short "they had sex again" in suggestion instead. Still good book could have been a little bit better but still a really fun read.

I'm not going to rate this one because I didn't finish it. You can see my status updates for a few hints as to why I didn't finish. To be fair, I did simply set it aside for a bit when I got too annoyed with it to keep listening, but after 3 months I still have no desire to listen to or read any more of it, don't care what happens to the characters nor what happens in the rest of the story, so I returned the audiobook on Audible and I'm marking this as a DNF.

I've read other books by this author that I really enjoyed, but this book was definitely not one of them. I expected a vampire romance novel, and...that's not what this is really. It's just weird. And the plot with the doctor is entirely too ludicrous for me. I'll still give other books by this author a try, but I'm pretty sure she's going to prove to be a hit or miss author for me. Hopefully there will be more hits than misses.

Not my usual read

The book was not what I expected, not really what I normally read. I thought from the description that was straying somewhat but had no idea how far. It sort of reminded me of the cheesy horror movies where the actors always make the worst choices and do the things that are obviously going to get them killed.

I went to the mall yesterday with a friend and while she was clothes shopping, I randomly picked up this book and sat down to read it. I could not put it down! I really wish I had not been flat broke at the time. I would have bought the book and brought it home, probably reading it within days. I went back to the mall today and sat down with it, reading two more chapters. I hope to go again this week. Anyway, I love this book. It pulled me in right from the start!
