This book is filled with information but the way it's written is extremely dry. It was difficult to get through without my eyelids dropping and I love philosophy as well as different religious practices. Perhaps the focus on pure language was what made it so dull to me- I just feel like so much more could have been done to make it just as informative but more entertaining. Overall, the information is good but I wouldn't read it for pleasure- just for added knowledge.

A wonderful introduction into the philosophy of religious language. Stiver cleverly and helpfully charts the history of religious language and the philosophy of language all the way to the late 20th century (when the book was written). Any student of philosophy of religion or theology would greatly benefit from this work. While other reviews may consider it dry and boring, the opposite couldn't be more true.

This book is full of information, the manner in which it is presented is incredibly boring. This is not a good choice for light reading.

Interesting, though too general to help me with what I needed it for.
