Sometimes a book is good. Sometimes it's mediocre, and sometimes it's even actively bad. And sometimes you read a book that is so bad, so poorly conceived and poorly executed, that you enjoy laughing aloud at the sheer absurdity of its horribleness.

I'm going to try to steer clear of spoilers; I'd hate to ruin the joy of experiencing this steaming pile for someone else.

This book fell prey to just about every bad urban fantasy/tough chick stereotype out there. Our main character, Evalle, is the maligned, unjustly persecuted outsider---a woman who takes help from no man and has difficulty making friends. Well, except for the two men who saved her life a couple of years ago. And the lesbian witch she met a few months back. And the two tall, muscular, mysterious men who find her inexplicably alluring. Did I mention that she rides a motorcycle?

The plot I'm going to leave alone. Let's just say it's a mishmash of mystery elements, with an uninspired and clunky mix of clues, false trails, and innocents to protect. There's a jumble of multiple mythologies and supernatural traditions. Oh, and a note to the authors in case they ever read this: the correct Hindu god for vengeance would be Kali, not Shiva. And Tibet is not, nor has it ever been, part of the Middle East. Now you know.

The fact that there are two authors may have contributed to the train wreck that is the pacing for this book. There's more suspense in an episode of Scooby Doo, and some passages are duplicated in odd places. I wonder what kind of communication they had during the writing process, because this book is borderline schizophrenic at times.

Having two authors does not, however, excuse the hilariously bad prose. At times Evalle feels that "the dice were always stacked against" her. And when lifting a rusty gate with her mental abilities [revealed fortuitously just in time to be useful, a couple of chapters into the book], she "wished she had WD-40 for her telekinesis." Really? Sometimes I wish for a book that has three-dimensional characters and a plot that doesn't read like an adolescent's D&D session, but we can't always get what we want.

I had the added pleasure of experiencing this book as audio. The reader, to be fair, had a challenge with this book. Her odd pauses in the middle of sentences and bizarre accents, though, added an additional level of awfulness to a text that didn't really need the extra help.

Enough with picking on this book. I finished it and enjoyed it, even though my pleasure was derived from my own malicious spite. I love this book like I love the Star Wars Holiday Special and watching MST3K. If you also love having bad movie marathons, if you enjoy picking something apart until it lies flayed before you, then try this book.

This was a near random audiobook pick from the library. I like the idea of urban fantasy that doesn't involve vampires or werewolves, so I gave this a try. It was horrible from page one. Just, wow.

Ways to know your book is horrible:

1. Your protagonist starts off captured in a cell for a crime she didn't commit yada yada yada yet spends passages describing the "muscley pounds of badass tapering into his jeans" cuffed to the wall across from her. This is almost a direct quote, by the way. Not exact, but I'm not going to click rewind and listen to this pile again ever. Fuck, put Fabio on the cover next time so the rest of us get some warning.

2. There is a muscular British rogue in the first few pages of your story. Okay, I guess this was as good a warning as any that we are in for a ride on the shit express.

3. Your definition of a strong female protagonist is a woman who wisecracks and flirts with British beefcake about her dire situation while being chained to the wall in the first few pages of your story. Buffy the Vampire Slayer called. She wants your middle-schooler to stop publishing this crap.

4. ... This book is just horrible. I stopped early. How do people make money writing like this? Now I have to return this garbage ASAP so I can listen to something that doesn't generate disdain for the whole of the humanities. Gods. I just... library closes soon, gotta go.

3 stars - BEFORE YOU READ THE BOOK - WARNING*** Do Not Compare this book's style to any of her others, you will be disappointed! For me it was a cross between Patricia Briggs books & Gena Showalter without the romance.

I do not normally rate Sherrilyn Kenyons books this low, so let me explain.

I am starting to get that all the books written with Dianna Love have very shallow icy characters. You never see them as warm friendly. Even later when the situation is resolved. All relationships are like the ice queen meets the Grinch - figid people. Everyone has a huge wall of some kind making them isolated, but it is described as "independant". No one ever seems very lovable. I find it true for her BAD series as well.

It was a good enough story, with a lot of action. Very little romance. And could be a great scifi book series .

I would have preferred the book more if she had used a different name other than SK, because her writing style is so different, I seemed to expect more from this book, comparing it to her other series. I REALLY hope it is because it is setting up for others in the series.

I myself prefer stand alone books that are resolved at the end. I do not like characters who take 3 books to get a grip.

Two authors collaborating on a single book can either produce something extraordinary as in the case of all the Ilona Andrews books or something truly abysmal as in the case of BLOOD TRINITY.

Oh wow is this book a mess. Two authors apparently means no editor. The writing is clunky and extremely redundant. Did these authors not communicate at all? It’s almost as if they each wrote this story and instead of editing the best parts from each into a single book, they just shuffled the scenes together so that every bit of information gets relayed twice, or even three times:

"...She'd have to come up with a believable reason for taking off to meet [name omitted] by four thirty, which was only a few hours away.

And before that she needed to come up with a reason why her aura wasn't human. Luckily [name omitted]’s phone had buzzed less than a heartbeat after his declaration that her aura didn't appear human. She had no idea what it'd been about, but it'd caused him to excuse himself and take off immediately.

She had a couple hours to come up with some way to explain her nonhuman aura." –BLOOD TRINITY pg. 218

And the whole book is like that. Worse still, it’s totally confusing. in 500+ pages the basic world is never explained. What’s a Belador? Couldn’t tell you. What’s an Alternant? Not real clear on that either. Maybe all of that got explained in the super secret novella that was released in 2008 but no where alluded to in this book?

Beyond the embarrassing writing, the book was a mess of clichéd characters and mismatched mythology. BLOOD TRINITY opens with a cool introduction and bonding between three supernatural characters: Evalle, a mutt Alterant (half Belador, half ?) and two full Beladors. I assumed theses three would be the leads in the book. Nope. Evalle is the protagonist but the other two get relegated to tiny mental phone calls and maybe one or two actual scenes. Maybe they’ll be getting their own books in this series.

I thought at least I’d get a good romance out of BLOOD TRINITY, I mean this is a Sherrilyn Kenyon book. Wrong again. The only positive thing I can say about this book is that the plot never drags. There are plenty of supernatural action scenes that inject some much needed life into this otherwise totally botched paranormal thriller. More books are planned for this series starting with EVE OF DESCTRUCTION in Fall 2011. I can only hope they get better.

Sexual Content: References to rape. Kissing.

Thanks to the Kate Daniels series I’ve been more inclined to read urban fantasy of late and for whatever reason I somehow came across Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love’s Belador series. Blood Trinity is the first in the series and introduces readers to Evalle, an outcast in the larger brotherhood of the Belador warriors.

Like the other warriors Evalle has power and she uses those powers to fight against other paranormal beings. Unlike the other Beladors, Evalle is a half-breed and as such she is an Alterant, a person that can shift into beast form. Unfortunately, this transformation is unique to Alterants and the other Beladors fear that Evalle will lose control of her beast and kill without consequence; a fact that has been proven over and over again with other Alterants. Evalle has been successfully avoiding being caged by the Belador elite thanks to two loyal friends who have covered for her in the past. However, when a new player rolls into Atlanta is seems that Evalle might not be able to avoid being caged unless she can prove that she’s not responsible for a recent murder. Complicating matters is the impending apocalypse. Sigh. As if your day job isn’t tough enough.

The first thing to know about Blood Trinity is that there is A LOT going on. Readers are pretty much thrown into Kenyon and Love’s world and it’s not always clear what the rules for this world are. In some instances I felt that there was a back-story that I was missing, but from what I can tell there is no previous book in the series. Someone correct me if I am wrong. While there is a lot to absorb right off the bat, there is so much to enjoy!

The biggest highlight of Blood Trinity is the character of Evalle. Evalle is prickly, justifiably so, and funny. There was an interesting dynamic to Evalle character. She was both kickbutt and also innocently vulnerable. This dichotomy made her a compelling character, and one that will keep me reading the rest of the series. The Beladors don’t treat her as an equal yet she feels such loyalty to them? How will that uneven relationship work out? Character development; it is in spades in Blood Trinity.

Great characters aside, I also like that Blood Trinity had a mystery element to it. Evalle is trying to track down who has killed a demon and searching for a missing, powerful, magical object. Obviously, demons and magical objects are not your average mystery fare, but that mystery element is there and I thought it was done really well. There were a lot of players involved but instead of being messy this really worked in the books favour, further fleshing out the world.

I also liked that there was a more overt romantic tone to Blood Trinity. As much as I like the Kate Daniels series, I’m always hoping that romance will take a more central role. While the romance plot is only at its beginning in Blood Trinity, I thought the focus on Evalle’s reaction to her suitors was great. It didn’t overpower the larger plot, but the romance still played an important role in the story. Considering Evalle’s traumatic past I don’t expect the romance to really move at a rapid pace throughout the series, but I do like how it impacts Evalle as a character. I’m telling you, the characters are fantastic!

So, if you’re a fan of Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series it is more than likely that you will enjoy Blood Trinity. Not only is it also set in Atlanta, it also features a snarky heroine. And, if that’s not convincing, I also had my sister (the biggest Kate Daniels fan out there) read the series and she’s in love with it too. Blood Trinity is Kate Daniels approved!

1.5 stars. Convoluted and so over the top it was laughable. Shiva, the Celts and Nigerian magic all smashed together? I mean, when I came across the term "majik Noirre" I knew that I would cringe my way through the book. I was right. Just take the Beladors - Mary and Marty Sues up the wazoo. Throw anything at them and it will stick: telekinesis, telepathy, energy blasts, energy shields... I actually had to laugh. It was so unbelievable and I say that as an urban fantasy fan.

The main heroine was so unlikable it hurt. She couldn't tell the truth if her life depended on it and it actually did more than once. If she just told the truth, half the things that happened in the book, wouldn't have happened. And of course, she was totally bad-ass and the special snowflake of all the Alterants. And as a proper bad-ass woman, she was raped as a child, of course, because, you know, that's a part of the package. I'm so fed up with authors using sexual assault as the means of empowerment. Also, let's not forget that now, for the first time ever, Evalle - like "Evil" you know *nudgenudgewinkwink* - feels horny in the company of not one but two men at once! Because, you know, she's surrounded by hot studs only, prime examples of male specimen, every one of them.

*snort* Sorry, I just couldn't write about this book with a straight face. As a parody, it was a good one!

When I found out Sherrilyn Kenyon was starting a new series, I’ll admit, I was not happy. I am a huge fan of her Dark Hunter books, and I didn’t like the idea of a new project taking away time she could be spending on more books in that series. But, after reading “Blood Trinity,” I have changed my mind.

First off, I acknowledge that the world building is a little complicated, but I’ll do my best to summarize. Our story centers on a woman named Evalle. She is what’s known as an Alterant, which is a half breed of the Belador race. I can’t explain entirely what the Beladors are, except to say they are something more than human. They have an array of powers granted by a Godess. Evalle has some of those powers, but as a half breed, she also has limitations: she can’t be in the sun and when seized with intense pain or emotion, she may shift into a beast form. All other Alterants are imprisoned, because they are said not to be able to control their beast form. The very fact that Evalle can shift at all is something she keeps a closely guarded secret.

Evalle has only a handful of people she trusts. Two of the three are fellow agents for the supernatural-police-type organization she works for, VIPER. Her boss, Sen, hates her for what she is and would love to have her locked up too. It comes to the attention of VIPER that a powerful stone is about to come into the possession of a powerful female. It can bring great change or destruction if left unchecked, so agents (including Evalle) are sent out to find it.

Evalle is paired with a mysterious man named Storm. She believes he is a plant, sent in by Sen to find a reason to lock her up. But there is more to Storm than meets the eye and there is definitely attraction there. There is also a spark between Evalle and a sexy human, Isak. I found myself rooting for both guys at different points throughout the book. (But if you are looking for the love scenes featured in the Dark Hunter books, you won’t find them here.)

The book was fascinating and hard to put down. Though I have to admit, there were times in the story I felt like I was getting a recap from a previous book. A few internet searches revealed a link to anthology Dead After Dark (Includes: Dark-Hunter, #17.1). I’ll have to go read the short story there to see if it fills in a few of the gaps.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I don’t know if the plan is to have it continue to follow Evalle or to pick up a story from a secondary character. But I hope we stick with her. I really want to see where her story goes from here, as it seems to be left open.

4 1/2 stars.

This series is definitely going to be five-stars! Blood Trinity in particular, however, is truly ranked at a four star for just one tiny reason: the world is HUGE!

Overall, I absolutely adored this story! Evalle in particular is, and no doubt will continue to be, a fascinating character. Her counterparts, Quinn and Tzader, are equally compelling, fun, and all out alpha to the extreme. There are so few books on the market that allow readers to overwhelmingly care about the characters to the point that one is able to love the story despite any apparent flaw.

Blood Trinity's only negative against it deals with the fact that it's somewhat confusing. There are so many different types of species of characters, different powers and cultures that didn't feel truly explained. However, I'm completely confident such will be extrapolated upon at a later date in subsequent novels. This is, after all, the first book in a new series. Diana and Sherri will no doubt clear the air on any confusing issues remaining over what exactly Beladors and Altarants are and from where they derive.

Still, despite this one flaw, this book was so entertaining! I'm left completely enthralled with this story and am thrilled about the next book. I adore the fact that this is a continuing story, which is very surprising since I'm not that big a fan of extrapolated story-lines. The series is absolutely going to be amazing, for there are so many plot lines, characters, and emotions left unexplored! Vyan, Sen, Isak, Storm - Feenix, Evalle, Quinn, Tzader - the list of awesome people in this book is truly endless!

Books that are so entertaining are truly downright impossible to review. Having been so caught up with the story and characters, it's so difficult to separate my consciousness from the book and evaluate it without a lot of apparent hyperbole. But who cares! I loved the book, I loved the story, and that's all that matters!

Oh how I do adore Sherrilyn and Diannas writing together!

Another phenomenal start to a urban fantasy/paranormal series! We all know I’m always and forever Kenyon trash so of course I was gonna have to pick up this series eventually

This was almost a 5 Star read but just a little something was missing. And the pacing on the beginning was a little all over the place.

We also get a DOPE slow burn romance happening in this and I am HERE FOR IT! Kenyon writes some good ass angst.

Evalle our main character was frustrating at times and at times I enjoyed Vyans POV the most. I thought he was a sweet little baby cinnamon roll.

10/10 would recommend and I will be definitely continuing this series very soon.

Did I miss the first book in this series? The prologue throws the reader straight into a captured scene that doesn't look great for Evalle. Within the first few chapters, I feel the same pit in my stomach for many of Ms. Kenyon's stories. Why is it that her main character is always so abused? Seriously, I am trying to recall one character that doesn't have either a tortured past or a continuous difficult life. If you want angst, Ms. Kenyon (now McQueen) is the author to read.

4.5-Evalle, the heroine, Alterant and not so welcome in the Belador community. It's gets worse she is accused of something that is against her strict rules with the Beladors. She did not do it and scrambles to save her life and prove her worth. Her tribe puts her on trail and gives her a dead line. She hunts the true killer and the truth behind the attack.
The side characters are so numerous, I was confused at times. She has many wonderful male characters in her story, almost too many. The first half of the story I was completely lost at who was her main "man". The second half, thinned the number somewhat. One stood out beyond the others for me I loved Storm, her forced partner and still unknown person, he's sexy and honest ! There are good spirits, evil co-woerkers, sweet friends, and helpful witches. CYou can't have a good book in my opinion without a good pet and she has a winner. I love Gargoyles, and she has a pet one named Phoenix, if he does not steal your heart nothing will.
It was like reading three different books, there is so much happening. It did come together at the end of the story, and left us with a light cliffhanger. I am addicted, I need to know what happens to Storm, he has unresolved issues. I will defiantly read the next book in the series.

Not only a really good book but in particular a great book for one which is part of a series... NO CLIFF HANGER. now that's what I'd like to see in more fantasy series. Definately more motivated to pick up book 2, 3, 4 and we'll however many there are.

I liked the characters though I felt we didn't get to know them well enough as this isn't particularly a big book. The plot is gripping and is such an easy read (assuming this must be aimed at teens).

although there was no sex this was still unnecessarily sexual. There was little need to throw in the heated moments ....

One of my GR friends kindly sent me her signed copy of this book to borrow and I was excited to read it. After about 20 pages I could tell this one wasn't for me, but I kept reading wanting to give it a fair chance. But at I reached page 60 I realized that I didn't really like Evalle and really couldn't care what happened to her. She seemed very much out only for herself even when she worked with the other 2 to save themselves. This one just isn't for me.

This is a second read! On if the first books I found, while living in Denver.

Why restart with the audiobook? Well during my third move. This series didn't make it to storage. And basically out of print. Then to find out that the author was in the middle of a spouse threat...fear...issue. So, no new additions ot the series. As far as I know. Yet audible has it. So I'll devour it from the beginning.

A one day read from SK that I thoroughly enjoyed...I loved this new world she brings to this series even though there is a lil bit of info overload, as there is in a lot of 1st books in a series to build the world, give background, yada yada yada. But I loved the story and the characters and am super bummed because I gotta wait A WHOLE YEAR for book 2 lol

I think this is a great start to a new series. I really liked the fast paced action in this book. I am a total Sherrilyn Kenyon fan and love her Dark-Hunter, Chronicles of Nick, and League series so it's just natural she sucked me into yet another paranormal tale. I can't wait to read the next one!

I loved this book. Evalle is amazing. I love her to death. I love her friends Quinn and Tzader so much also. I didn't like how she felt like she had to work so hard to fit in. She can be unique if she wants to. I thought that it was interesting that she was an Alterant but never has shifted. I hate how she got set up. I definitely think that she will have problems in the future and end up having to go on some dangerous mission to get the stone back. 10 stars definitely.

note: This is a review of both Blood Trinity (Belador book 1) and Alterant (Belador book 2).

I was hesitant at first about reading this series because paranormal romance/urban fantasy has been grating on my nerves recently with all the predictable, trite plot lines and over-sexed nymphomaniacs characters. The blurb for the Belador series intrigued me (mainly because--blasphemy!--it didn't mention a sexy, tortured male romantic interest who falls madly in love with the heroine because she ignites in him a fiery passion like no other), but having avoided Sherrilyn Kenyon's other novels because of their predominantly romantic plot lines, I had reservations about attempting Blood Trinity and Alterant. After reading reviews complaining about the lack of romance in the first book, I finally decided; that was what I was looking for--a real story that doesn't need romance to shine.

Kenyon and Love did not disappoint.

I find it a bit ironic that the reason I decided to read these books was the same reason that so many readers disliked them. Don't get me wrong; romance is perfectly welcome in any novel I read. But I find that when characters come to truly care about each other first before they start ripping each other's clothes off, that actually makes for a sweeter, more believable, more intense relationship. There is indeed romance in the Belador books--and it's real love, slow and heartfelt--not the rabid sex scenes that disappointed readers were so hoping to find. I like my stories to come with substance, and that's what Blood Trinity and Alterant delivered.

This series addresses issues such as discrimination, genocide, and sexual abuse, but the books are not so focused on these controversial topic that they resemble ethical commentary. The story centers around Evalle Kincaid (E Valerie Kincaid), who struggles to overcome the prejudice almost everyone seems to have against what she is... an Alterant, a human who changes into a beast. She is a strong heroine who does not need or want a man to take care of her, but her best friends Quinn and Tzader along with the devoted Storm begin to slip past the barrier she places between herself and the world. Evalle had been locked in a basement until the age of eighteen and had suffered sexual abuse at the hands of a man promising to help her, so rising above her fear of touch and inability to trust others is a constant internal battle she wages with herself.

Stunningly complex world-building, believable and relatable characters, and smoldering beginnings of an unforgettable romance... this series is urban fantasy at it's best!

Evalle is an Alterant, who is part Belador and part unknown. Many Beladors have special abilities ranging from telekinesis, empathy, mind control, strength or super speed. By being an Alterant, Evalle not only has the Belador abilities but she can also shift partially/and fully into some sort of beast (image a beast 10 feet tall!). Evalle and her two best friends (Quinn and Tzader) work for the VIPER organization (Beladors) that protect humans from all things supernatural. As the only free-walking Alterant (the majority are locked away in cages) Evalle, is the last person in the chain of command even though she’s VIPER top warrior. Many of her fellow Belador are friendly but otherwise don’t fully trust her. To make matters worse, someone is controlling different demons to attack a human to make it look like an Alterant did it. Evalle must figure out the mastermind behind the killing before she gets locked away too.

I knew I was going to enjoy this book when I was 5 pages into the story; I love the scene of how Evalle, Quinn and Tzader first met and really enjoyed their interaction/dialogue with one another. Evalle doesn’t trust easily and constantly worries about what her fellow Beldaors think of her. Evalle had a rough childhood having been locked up for most of her life, 24/7 and assaulted by a person she thought she trusted. Regardless of her differences, she is a strong and kick-butt heroine that doesn’t take cr*p from anyone. Then we have Quinn and Tzader who is Evalles best friends who she sees as over-protective big brothers. While they both will never do anything that goes against the Belador’s code, they’re willing to do whatever it takes to protect Evalle.

There were A LOT of characters in this book, with different background/gods and their own storyline, which was a bit overwhelming at first but once all the players are introduced you can see the plot moving forward and understand what/why things are happening. Among the long list of characters are two love interests for Evalle, both big alpha men with their own agendas. Finally, the best part of the entire book…Evalle’s pet! A gargoyle name Feenix! I adore Feenix, and I hope we see more of him in the rest of the series. Overall a great start to a new series, full of action as the Beladors and rival group the Kujoos hunt for an object of immense power with enough romance to balance it out. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series, Alterant. I hope that with the world-building already set, there will be less information/characters overload so that we can just focus on a handful of the main characters.

I have been out of the closet for a while now about being a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fan. It took a while to admit to people while I surreptitiously watched episodes. I hadn't read much in the vampire genre at all until “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer. I hadn't heard about these books until just before the book “Breaking Dawn” was released. I picked up a copy and couldn't put it down until I had finished all 4 books of the series. This was my introduction to vampire fiction and since then I have read quite a few different paranormal novels. The latest one I have read was Blood Trinity. I found it hard to put this book down. At the time I was visiting my husband's family and was sneaking downstairs to read my book, berating myself for being anti-social (obviously not enough to make me put the book down and socialise).
Evalle is a Belador, a supernatural warrior who is an outcast from her people as she has an Alternant; she has an abnormality that allows her to shift her shape to a terrible monster. As often these shape shifting monsters are hard to control it is illegal and anyone caught shifting is imprisoned for life. She is barely tolerated by her people but is fiercely loyal to them. She serves them by being a demon hunter. While tracking a particularly nasty demon causing much carnage she finds herself under suspicion of causing the incidents she is investigating. Unlikely friends come to her aid but need to earn Evalle's trust and crack her tough exterior.
This book introduces new species to the plethora of paranormal creatures found with in the genre. The plot moves rapidly and the characters are intriguing hinting at interesting pasts (which I am sure will be explored in further sequels). This book is not a romance, something that Kenyon is usually known, but does have some sexual tension undertones. Initially the book is a little awkward as readers are at a loss to understand words such as Belador and Alternant which are explained later in the book. However it is an entertaining book that invites the reader into a new world and great escapist fiction. Evalle is the type of heroine I like, one who is tough but hides a tender heart. She even has a pet gargoyle! Kenyon is a prolific writer, so I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. 7/10

Last fall, I was going to attend Sherrilyn's book signing at my local bookstore so I picked up a copy of the book prior to the event. I had all of the best intentions to pick it up, but I think I must have read the back cover 20 times before taking the plunge. Now I'm all done.

Here's the good, bad and ugly on Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love's "Blood Trinity":

The good - The writing is fabulous. The story progresses at a nice pace. I don't feel that it drags at any point and it had my attention from page 1 to page 518. I really liked some of the characters and I wish that the focus had been more on the VIPER folks rather than on Evalle. Evalle spends a lot of the book by herself, where I would have liked to see her interact a bit more with other people in the book.

The bad - I didn't care much for the central character Evalle. First of all, the girl's name is Evalle. I don't care that early it's broken down that it's pronounced "E-vahl", I'm going to continue to read it as "evil". Second, she's the classic female-with-chip-on-shoulder type that I tend to find rather annoying. This book was also all over the place. It should be noted that "Blood Trinity" is book 1 in the Belador series. I'm not sure if I'm to expect future books in this series to be 17 story lines wrapped into to one or if, as the first book in the series it was trying to introduce all of the characters, or what. Oh, and did I mention that it is 500+ pages long?

The ugly - The resolution for Evalle's dead body in the morgue (of which the story opens with) was COMPLETELY unsatisfying. The body in the morgue gets a lot of things rolling and it's just kind of nonchalantly wrapped up in a couple of sentences near the end of the book.

I know I just spouted off a bunch of criticisms, but at the end of the day, I did feel that "Blood Trinity" was a fun read. I picked it up in the Romance section of the book store, but I didn't feel that it was truly a "romance". There is a romantic interest, but there isn't a central romance - this was an element I liked about it. The Belador series definitely has my attention and I look forward to picking it up when it comes out this fall (2011).

I was unsure about this book. But I knew I loved SK's books so I gave it a go. OMG what a great surprise. I loved, adored Evalle. She is one of the best female characters that I have read about in a long time. She strong, and vulnerable. I hate , hate, hate Sen! Talk about holding who she is against her. Treating her like trash. Calling her a half breed mutt. Man before this series is over I hope Evalle kicks his ass or something close to that. Ugh!!!

Oh boy I hope that Storm stick through all this crap and hooks up with Evalle. He could be so good for her. He gets her without knowing why she is the way she is. Storm has his own secrets and I love the mystery of not knowing what the deal is yet. By the end of the book I still was unsure of what he sole role in this is. Loved the Grady , Tzader and Quinn. Omg you have got to meet Evalle's pet gargoyle Feenix! He is the cutest, sweetest thing. When she is with him it just makes me smile.

By the end of this book I just felt like Evalle cant catch a break. No matter how hard she tries , it will never be good enough because of who she is and that pisses me off. Once again she is in trouble and blamed for something she didn't do.

You have to read this book first, or you will be confused. Many POV's. I am still a little unsure of what a Belador is. Some kind of warrior . Alterant's are half breeds(?) Half Belador and half something else. Since Evalle doesn't know anything about her parents I guess it makes since that we don't know also. I look forward to finding out who she really is, who her parents were. Love the mystery of that.Oh yeah and who Isak is and what he really wants. Cause I just don't trust him yet.

This is the first book in the Belador series which introduces Evalle - a female alterant who is half Belador and half something else that is unknown. Alterants are half breeds that turn into monsters and others of her ilk have been captured but Evalle has been allowed to be free as she appears to be the only female of her species and has not changed form into the monster that would see her freedom curtailed.

Evalle works for VIPER a group that battles against demons and protects the safety of all humans but can only work at night as she has a problem with sunlight that could kill her.

In this book we learn of the Ngak Stone which picks its owner and is a source of great power. However whilst trying to find the stone Evalle has to deal with the Tribunal - a mix of mythological gods that would like nothing more than to lock her away as well as a tribe of immortals who want the stone so that they can go back and kill all beladors.

To aid them in this they release one of the captive alterants who tries to make a deal with Evalle.

The unfortunate thing about this book is that it finishes abruptly and leaves you a tad confused and annoyed but also really wanting the next book in the series. There are a lot of references to things in Evalle's past that it doesnt expand on and some parts of the book feel a bit rushed while other areas seem to be dragged out. Unlike Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series, these are books that you can't read out of order and are not really stand alone as there is no ultimate conclusion to the major plot line that runs through the book.

Not sure about this one.
Though, not sure if some of the unsure is result of the audiobook narration, or if it's just the book.

It definitely lacked that Sherrilyn Kenyon spark that the Dark Hunter books have.

It was slightly refreshing that this was a good solid Urban Fantasy and not a Paranormal Romance.

The main character wasn't unlikable, though her name got annoying (especially hearing it). Well... I say that... but she was kind of unlikable now that I think about it. I guess she didn't make an impression on me that I have to actually think about it and can't come up with how I felt about her while reading it.

I loved Feenix. (Though glad I didn't have to read that spelling every time, otherwise that would have goten annoying.)

I think the Love Triangle, didn't really feel like a Triangle. Sure, Issac was a good solid hunk of man, but I don't think there was really enough screen time from him to really make an issue of it all. She spent more time with Storm, so in my head, if I were her and I was ever pressed to choose, Storm would be it. (Never mind the fact that he isn't trying to kill her kind like Issac is.)

It did feel a bit repetitive at times. And lots of info dump. It just got muddled. Found myself at the end still going 'did I really miss what the hell a Belador is? Because I'm still not sure. And wait... what is Viper again?'

Just finished this one. It seems that this series will be UF, not PNR. In general I think it suffered from first book syndrome. It is a 518 page book, and about the first 400+ pages were really series set up, which got to be overwhelming. What I mean is we meet A LOT of characters, and get a lot of mythology and backstory, but not a lot of action until the end. The end of the conflict of this book was a little surprising in that it seems to go against the kind of person we meet, but I'm sure it will all make sense as the story unfold. There is the beginning of a love triangle, maybe even a parallelogram. There are some good characters, some I don't rust and some I hope we seem much more of. I look forward to reading more and at the same time I hope this UF series has a planned ending witha set number of books, because I could see this getting annoying if the authors decided to try to stretch this series to keep churning out books.

The interesting thing is that the action is mostly from the POV of the main character Evalle Kincaid. (Pronounced: e-val. Don't get me started about the name.) But the book is still in the 3rd person with POV from other characters along the way. WHich is one of the things I don't usually care fro in UF books.

All her life, Evalle has been straddling the line between human and demon. Curious about her origins, but content to live in the shadows, she finds that anonymity threatened by escalating conflicts between species. Accused of a savage murder, she's forced center stage in what seems like the beginning of an Atlanta apocalypse. Before long though, her personal problems will submerge as she learns startling facts about a hoard of supernatural terrorists.

The launch volume of a much-anticipated mass-market original paranormal romance series.

I loved this book there was excitement from beginning to end. I loved how she was different from the others of her kind and how she constantly fought to stay what she considered normal. I think that can fit into anyones day to day life. We all struggle to feel normal in one way or another.
I truly cannot wait till the next book comes out and what she decides for a hero in this book. There were just too many delicious men to really choose one.

Well if we played a drinking game every time something seemed familiar or repetitive we would be drunk before we were a third of the the way through the book. Nasty tempered gods and goddess *shot* The mention of the word pantheon *shot* A main character that doesn't know where they came from or what their origins are? *shot* A main character that was sexually abused *shot*

That said, I enjoy Kenyon's style of writing, but I didn't recognize it here. Not sure what part Ms. Love contributes to this, but the kluging together of the two writers may be partially responsible for having too many players in the game, and the cliched lines and situations.

The title makes no sense. Really. But that is nit picking. I thought there was enough promise in it however to go look for Eve of Destruction (book 2 as advertised at the end)only to find the title had been changed to just Alterant. Oh cool! Maybe we'll learn more about them. (nope)
