If there’s one enduring tragedy in my line of work, it’s amateur casters falling prey to their own conjurings.
But when I catch a fire druid lurking around the latest victim, the deaths don’t seem so innocent. Add a kidnapping case involving Manhattan’s most hallowed cathedral, and I’m seeing dangerous parallels to my first major outing as a wizard. The one that landed me face-to-face with a demon lord.
I’m a stronger, more practiced magic-user now, bolstered by powerful allies. But I also have a lot to lose—not least my family. And the threat is more imminent than I ever imagined. Indeed, it’s already here.
As demonic forces besiege the city, my spells and studies may not be enough. Do I dare turn to my angelic blood, even if it risks conjuring a violent, vengeful being intent on annihilating magic-users?
When the alternative is Hell on Earth, do I have a choice?
If you like occult action, spell-crackling suspense, and moments of heart, heroism, and all-out laughter, you’ll love Prof Croft!
Brad Magnarella writes urban fantasy for the same reason most read it – to explore worlds where magic crackles from fingertips, vampires and shifters walk city streets, cats talk (some excessively), and good prevails against all odds. It’s shamelessly fun.
His three main series, Prof Croft, Blue Wolf, and Maddy Deeds, make up the growing Croftverse, with nearly a half-million books sold to date and an Independent Audiobook Award nomination.
Hopelessly nomadic, Brad can be found in a rented room overseas or hiking America's backcountry.

Everson is back in what was basically a book of greatest hits. If not for the author’s note I would worry this was the final book of the series. We have callbacks to not only the first book “Demon Moon”, but many others to include the short stories. There is also some significant Thelonious action thrown in. He is usually good for some comic relief. It has been a while since we’ve seen him though. In this book Thelonious was a shadow of his normally raucous self. I missed the bratty side of him here. I was intrigued by the notes mentioning a new series on the horizon. When I first saw the cover of “Blue Wolf” I almost didn’t read it since I don’t normally read military action books, and the picture of Jason as a wolf holding weapons looked preposterous. Since I eventually purchased all of the books that didn’t deter my enjoyment. Hopefully the new series will be fun as well.
I think avenging just about covers it! Marvelous ending (hopefully not) to the series! But who stops at Book 12? Mwhaha! Come On Mr Magna!! (Magnificent, magical, magnanimous…) As we learned in the last book, Mr. Croft has angel blood. (Though not a nephilim?) I’m thinking it must be seriously diluted, which begs who down the line WAS a nephilim. It wasn’t Emma, the pale lady we meet, unless she’s WAY older than we think!
Anyway. It comes in handy, as is the Case, in a battle (of course!), with Sathanas. 👿 Whom we met in book 1! When the Black Earth Druids appear again, although slightly different this time, it becomes obvious, just like last time, they are trying to raise Sathanas 👿 when the perfect stars ✨ will be aligned. Read a great 📕 book, they said! It’s wonderful, they said! Well, for once, They are right!!! Must read.
I don't even know where to start with this AMAZING PIECE of ART!!! it is THRILLING, Chilling, brings out ALL the emotions and then some!! Heart racing, heart stopping , heart wrenching, IT IS SOOO GOOD!!! Prof. Croft is put through the ringer in this one!! AND by a foe that he thought he'd vanquished!! That foe comes back for vengeance too, on everyone but especially Croft. Tabitha is actually very helpful in saving Croft at one point there are a lot of close calls though. Some old friends and reader favorites come to help Croft with this case. The end was astounding. We get answers to a LOT of questions that I've had with each book, SOO many answers!! It is simply thrilling. I'll be reading this book to pieces!! and buying replacements. The rereads always seem better for some reason.
Everson Croft always seems so real, and I'm *still* not ready for the end of this book. So many moments and memories throughout the series come up in this one book. It's fantastic. We're reminded, along with Everson, of where he is now versus where he started, all he's accomplished, and where he wants to be. Like all of these books, this one is action packed and had me engrossed and on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down. I love the twists and turns, the moments where I think I know what's coming only to be taken by surprise. With a title like "Angel Doom" following "Godly Wars" you know something intense is going to happen, just not when or how. I love the way it played out. I cannot wait to see what comes next!
This book seemed like full circle from novice magical user to full magical user; albeit with a lot more to learn. I was glad at least Tabitha got into the mix. There needs to be something more for Tabitha. This book shows the power of love and that no one no matter how low or against high odds is alone. Please don't let this be the last Professor Croft. I mean there are more stories to tell, especially one that hasn't been told or that has been left opened. The night that Caroline spent with Everson, did it produce a kid that he knows nothing about given how the Fae keeps secrets or was it casual with no receipts? I can't be the only one wondering. Great work. I read it in three days.
Yet another fantastic story from the Croftverse - and despite it being maybe the last one it's still exciting and heart-stopping. I especially love the way that all the friends and family of Prof Croft come together in a superb finale and I have enjoyed getting to know them all - even Tabitha helps in this one. Weaving together strands from the past, starting with a child abduction and leading to an awe inspiring fight at the end, Magnarella never disappoints and this (yes, I'll say it again) is his finest one yet. I highly recommend this series and really hope that we might see characters from the Croftverse in the future.
It's wonderful when a series goes back to the beginning to take stock of not only how it started, but how far we've come together. Croft is forced, through new events, to really address who he is now and who he will be going forward as the past comes back with a vengeance. This outing is full of revelations, twists and a full cast of allies and enemies. It feels like a season finale in the best possible way, letting the reader reflect on the journey and imagine the future.
This 12th book in the excellent Professor Croft series finds the good professor having to face the return of an old foe and he must dig deeper than ever before if he is to come out on top, only this time he has so much more to lose if he doesn't. A great addition to the series and a fitting conclusion to the latest mini quadrilogy in the overall series. Can't wait for the next book and see where the good Professor is headed next!
I really enjoyed this book. In this book, we see an enemy from the past, but in a different form. Ever since struggles to balance, married, life, fatherhood and work in this book. It’s obvious he’s exhausted, but he keeps going. This book opens with the Several different conjurings that appear to be linked and a couple of murders. This is reminiscent of demon moon in many ways. I enjoyed the conclusion, but at the same time the promise of more.
WONDER OF THE WIZARDING WORLD-EVERSON'S THE GREATEST
As life gets more complicated, at least Croft gets some personal rewards. Croft's power grows and so does his family. Always showing his paternal side and love of children, this time evil counts on that part of Croft to move the agenda along. It's why we love him and why he must save the world, again. Another great job by Magnarella. Hooked me from the very first and there's not a comparable Story-Weaver.
Welcome back, Prof Croft! Probably not the best of series to begin reading this exciting, delightful, and addicting fun series. The Prof is a university professor married to a NYPD Lieutenant, and they have a new little boy. The action is nonstop, as are the laughs and gasps. I am addicted to this and the Blue Wolf series and have all the audios! James Patrick Cronin continues to be super as voice actor for this series!
Crazy how this seriously got better with each installment. Honestly I was proud to see Croft growth becoming a better wizard and father. The parallels didn’t go unnoticed (also mentioned by Croft himself) of how this case mirrored Demon moon. You can say this is the end of an era as Croft finally gives in to his magic and faith. Can’t wait to see where we’ll go from here the ending left new possibilities to be explored and Croft transition into something more 😉
All that is certain is change and this story is wrapped up in it, from beginning to end. The author shows us how life changes from the birth of a child to the death of an innocent. How our decisions impact not only ourselves but those around us, especially those we are close to. We just have to be open to see within.
This was perhaps the last series still going in the urban fantasy genre (with a male protagonist) that remained well written, wonderfully paced and a joy to read.
As this solo arc comes to a close, I look froward to seeign waht comes next.
To say that Brad is an incredible storyteller would be greatly understating his talent. Where he gathers the ideas for his stories is totally beyond me, but wherever it comes from, I pray it will continue.
The Prof Croft series has been quite a ride. In this one, the big bad that he defeated is trying to return to Earth from Hell. Croft will need to to rely on all his knowledge, friends and family to have a chance.
Another great read from the Professor Croft series. It’s really amazing what one can do when one’s mind is put to the test with the pure aspect of succeeding beyond all doubt and expectations.
Action packed and full of what I love…good smacking evil around…but this is not a straight forward story! Lots of twists and turns! Can’t wait for the next one!
Can't wait for what is to come after reading this book. Intriguing as always but reaching levels of depth and character development that are very exciting.
This is the best Prof Croft book, I loved it. Mr. Magnarella has an imagination (I hope it was imagination and not prophecy) to rival the greatest. Please don’t stop.
I find myself enjoying the Croft series more with each book. Definitely worth reading.I look forward to the next but also worrying about running out of books. lol
Having learned that this was the final book in the Prof Croft series, I almost didn’t want to read it. I’ve loved this series and was reluctant for it to be over. However, I couldn’t resist the temptation to dive in, and am glad I did.
As events unfold, Croft notices parallels with his first adventure. I really enjoyed how this story brought Croft back to his roots, while showing how far he had come since those early, lonely days. For me, what makes these books stand out are the characters and their relationships. I actually like and care about what happens to them. Though I am sad to leave them, I am glad to have shared in their journey.
I suspect there will be more to come in the Croftverse, and I look forward to reconnecting with these beloved characters down the road and maybe meeting some new ones. In the meantime, I highly recommend this book (and the entire series) to all readers who enjoy good stories.
