parallax is an international, peer-reviewed journal that aims towards a critical engagement with the production of culture and knowledge. The journal explores a wide range of cultural practices, reconfiguring the production and understanding of culture as well as the relation between theory and practice itself.
Drawing on a range of theoretical perspectives, this text explores the relationship that exists between Classical Studies and Cultural Studies, a relationship framed in terms of a mutual unsettling through an interrogation of their own respective conventions and purposes. This relationship is examined through ideas around the articulation of dominant and sub-cultures, the origin of 'theoria' and the semantic history of 'otherness'. Contributors include Karen Bassi & Peter Euben, Carol Dougherty, James I.Porter and Victoria Wohl.
