I read Dog Basics, by Caroline Davis; it was nonfiction. This book was extremely interesting, as it included many different aspects of how a dog thinks, and feels. This novel was well written, as it drew me in, and captured my attention, this is a big achievement for a nonfiction writer, since usually when reading a nonfiction book, I soon lose interest, and give up on reading it. Caroline Davis was very personal in her writing, including many of her experiences with her dog, and what makes dogs so special to us, for example, in the introduction she talks about what dogs mean for her, and what they have given the people of the world. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars, as overall it was very good, but dragged certain sections/parts of the book out for longer than was necessary.
Summary: In Dog Basics, Caroline Davis tells you about the initial steps of in-depth dog care, canine behaviour, training your dog, and health care. Caroline gives you various options of what kind of food etc. to use, but also incudes charts that list the pros and cons of all methods on each page. This is extremely useful to the reader, as the understand all options, and what each one will mean for their dog.
I think people from ages six onwards, and especially those who own dogs, will be interested in this novel as it is includes a lot of useful information, and opens up your eyes to how your dog feels, and thinks. If everyone read this book there would be no mistreated dogs in the world, and we would all know how to be responsible owners. Children under six would have difficulty reading this book, as they might not be able to understand the vocabulary used.
