Poprocks 2

It was a criminal syndicate unlike any the law had ever seen... one that nobody would ever suspect. Nobody, that is, but Aberdeen 'Milk' Poprocks, private detective. And even he might have overlooked the syndicate, and their laundry list of crimes, if they hadn't knocked off his partner. But once on the case, it becomes difficult to ignore the sudden and drastic increase in food poisonings across the state- some of them fatal; and all of them meticulously planned. To make things more complicated, every lead points to the small community of living, breathing fruits and vegetables known to the outside world as Concessions. And no private eye in the phone book has more experience with Concessions than Poprocks. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Reynolds lifted the ‘crime scene’ tape for me to duck under and I did the same for him. He led me past all the other cops and out of the building. Neither of us said a word to the other until we were halfway across the street. Then the radish gestured to the green stain on the sidewalk. “You saw that happen?” “Yeah, I saw it. Carmine said he was a Fruit spy.” “After our telephone conversation the other day I came up to question Carmine, myself. I noticed the avocado straight away and figured something was up. Most people don’t know avocado is a fruit.” “So I’ve heard,” I replied. Reynolds went “So I did some checking when I got back to the office. Carmine was half right. The avocado was a spy. But not for the fruits. He was a fed, Poprocks.” “You telling me the avocado was a G-man?” “That’s what I’m saying.”
