What if purgatory was a fantasy world where the forces of good and evil are in an endless war for your soul.
Pulled into a new world he doesn’t understand, Sam finds himself trying to stand against the oncoming apocalypse. Sam must learn to fight and adapt if he hopes to survive. He soon finds that his arrival is part of a prophecy involving an apocalyptic demon. Sam is going to have to rely on new friends, a little luck, and a lot of puns as he explores this new reality. He will need to overcome his dark past and strengthen his skills, as well as his soul, if he is going to prevent the fall of Eternity’s Gate, and maybe even Earth itself.

Eternity’s Gate takes place in a realm between heaven and hell where angels and demons are at war. Sam is brought to Eternity’s Gate to fulfill a prophesy to defeat the Soulmonger (basically a big demon who can take someone’s soul).
The characters in the story level up like video game characters and their abilities give the whole story a video game feel. The pacing of the story feels like a video game too, complete with questing and fight boss mobs.
I enjoyed the story but felt it got dragged down a little with too much description. Every character was described in detail, including side characters who were only involved in a scene or two. Every new location was also described in great detail. Sam was constantly asking about how things worked, which added more description of things that interrupted the flow of the story, like how money worked or how there was running water.
One of this books main characters is a man called Sam. Sam lost his family to a drunk driver and for around eight months has been beating himself up mentally and in other ways.
One day on the way to work, Sam gets into a car crash and wakes up on Eternity's Gate, which is like a half way point between heaven and hell, with the forces of each in battle, in a fantasy setting.
This is a very good fantasy book, with few typos and to me felt like a rushed ending.
If this genre interests you, than sit back, relax, and enjoy.
Reads like a common video game script, hero arrives, trains gets stronger then defeats the main boss and all is saved. I am not a fan of fantasy fiction but if you are into it this has some decent parts that even I enjoyed. Well back to murder mysteries I go.
