Author Kelsey Collins introduces the subject of her new book Exit Strategy, which explores the way humans have a tendency to forget, perhaps purposefully, that we are all going to die someday. Kelsey inspires us to humanize the aging process, recognizing we are not only all in this together; we are also going to exit at some point, and maybe, just maybe, having our own exit strategies will help us to live each day we have here more fully, more genuinely and more lovingly."
A word that best describes this book and the HD study at all is: ridiculous. I can't accept that all the people who were born on the same day with me have 90-100% the same characteristcs as I ( I checked it myself, from 12:00 midnight to 12:00 noon we're projectors, throat and g- center defined,6/2; from 12:00 noon the only thing that changes is that 6/2 becomes 6/3.)Moreover, I know 2 people who were born one day before me and 1 person who shares my birth date. Not only we are distinctly different personalities but we have completely different patterns of behaviour and way of acting (which according to HD should be similar). Somebody here would mention the change of lines that affects the performing of the design qualities. I'd say that even they change in several hours. So a person born 1 or 2 hours before/after me must have absolutely the same charactersitics as me. Sorry, I can't accept it. To me this study has some serious and unforgivable flaws. I can talk about the suspicious role of definitions and the total lack of logic in performing of the defined/undefined center but I think what I said is enough.
Let me admit something here...I am obsessed with astrology.
While googling one day, I came across the term 'human design'. I was like: looks interesting, so I decided to buy this book. I did a chart and everything, but because my attention span tends to jump from one thing to another, I didn't dig deep into the book, and consequently, I was confused about the terms.
I go through certain phases. Sometimes I find myself knee-deep into spiritual and occult topics. Other times I'm living my ideal life through my Sims. It just be like that sometimes.
After watching a YouTube video on how to read a Human Design chart, I decided I would go ahead and read the book.
The book comes with a link to download software to make your chart. I did that and on I tumbled down the rabbit hole.
The book is easily understandable. I would like to preface that with this: use the chart made with their software because it makes the explanations a lot clearer.
I think this is a good introduction to the topic, but mind you I'm just dipping my toes into this particular subject.
If you like astrology, this would definitely be an interesting book. I will say however that there is a difference. While on the human design chart they have the planets listed, it doesn't really go into how the astrological side factors in. The author mentions I-Ching a lot and it has elements of chakras. I'm not well-versed in either of those things at the moment, but it encourages me to read more about them.
Interesting. Fun. Accurate? For me it was uncanny... can’t speak for others. My mother swears she’ll never forget my exact time of birth. According to this book, my nature dictates my guaranteed interest in the subject, also pretty accurate. I am constantly seeking answers.
If the negative reviews of this book are important to you, understand the nature of the individual doing the review. As with anything in life, understand yourself first and foremost before you proceed. If you don’t care, can’t accept a different way of thinking or lack curiosity... move on, there is nothing for you here. Just be true to yourself.
No one is suggesting you adopt this as a way of life. It’s entertainment. It may help some by providing a personal or relationship insight and move their life along. For others, like me... you may forget everything you read except the one important take away: pause and understand how you really feel in any given situation. Then, proceed accordingly. Sadly, I seem to keep spending money on books with this same conclusion... sticky notes on my morning mirror would be cheaper but less entertaining.
"Just be yourself, they say. How many times have we heard that? It's often said to help ease a nervous first date, a daunting social invitation, or the first day on a new job... The problem is this: how many of us know what being ourselves actually means? Who is this "true self" - the private inner being that hides behind the mask it wears for most public interactions, that real person we are when stripped of our ego and acts of social graces aimed at winning respect, approval, or popularity?
Psychologists the world over would say that millions of people pass through life without ever realizing what constitutes their true self. It's as though we have forgotten our unique individuality in the collective rush to be all things to all people, to fit the picture-perfect portrayals in magazines, television dramas, and movies. It's as though the naturalness and authenticity with which we were all born -and which we unleashed with unaffected abandon as children - have been crushed, repressed, or even disallowed...
What I'm introducing is a one-of-its-kind system and self-awareness tool called Human Design, a system where science meets spirituality, a system that intends you to be loved, accepted, and understood for who you are. Which is why it asks one question at the outset: "Are you living your Human Design?"
This system is built on the wisdom that the acceptance and embracing of your true nature are the essence of finding personal happiness, fulfillment, and freedom, which in turn, can lead to finding and creating healthier relationships." Introduction - pgs. 13 & 14
The premise of human design is absolutely bonkers, but it's always nice to read about yourself. And really, anything that says, "Here's what you're like as a person and here are some strategies to live your best life based on that" is never really going to hurt because, like with astrology, all the advice is fairly helpful even if what the formula says you're supposed to be like does not resonate with you at all.
Interesting concept, however like horoscopes the open-endedness enables the individual to read into it what they will. Not convinced that my birthdate and time is enough to make me like millions of other people on the planet, but don’t entirely reject the framework of us being more connected to each other and alike than we often believe we are.
This book is about you, and precisely - your design. I never came across a book, where I was the protagonist and i learn about myself more intimately. It had a profound effect on my thinking and familiarized me with my design. I learnt that I am a Generator with 1/4 profile and a sacral authority. The book affirmed my belief of certain inbuilt traits I had which I was already aware of. I then reflected back on my own past experience to get some perspective. Did I use my mind or listened to my gut?
I soon realized why something worked and didn't work in my life. Why some people inspired me and others didn't?
The credibility of Human Design, whether genuine or con, depends on your analysis of your past experiences. I felt more in tune with my nature after I finished reading it. So, I believe in my design and will consciously follow the recommended strategy.
Aside from the content, the book has a wonderful cover. The topics are well organized and easy to follow. There is no need to read the entire book, as you can only concern yourself with the parts associated with your chart. The book doesn't include topics such as Incarnation cross and Compatibility. The subject of Human design is as deep as the subject of astrology. Any book on either subjects delve on the surface, and it fails to attract an audience. It is only when you invest your time in getting to the bottom of the subject, you realize the truth. This wonderful book by Chetan Parkyn is only a snapshot. It only scratches the surface, but is a great introduction to the subject. For deep understanding, you have to research and dig deeper.
Overall I think Human Design is a very interesting and deep system. However, for such a deep, intriguing, exciting system that spans across the systems of Kabbalah, Chakra System, I-Ching, Astrology, etc, such a brief introduction does not do any good nor does it leave the reader (at least myself) educated. What it did is introduce a new system that is based on old methods and provided brief overviews of the various parts of the system which leaves more questions than provide answers.
Every system requires extensive, deep analysis of it and not just a brief introduction of it for the sake of releasing a book and wasting pages. The fact that you barely got anything from 300 pages shows how much more can be said about it. However, you can quickly fall into a trap of paying hundreds of dollars for courses over every little thing and reading because the information that is provided in the book is so brief and falls short of enough satisfying.
For instance, what is the difference between someone with a 5/1 profile and emotional authority and someone with the same profile but a different authority? Or how do different gates play their part in one profile or type compared to another? There are literally countless questions that can be asked here.
Another thing that bothered me is the grammatical errors in the book. I don't know if this book is the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd edition but there were many grammar and editing problems. I don't claim to be better at it as English is not my first language, however, I do think that going through the book a few times if not sending it to an editor could do good.
Human Design is the interpretation manual for the Human Design computer program. Downloadable for free on the author’s website, you input your date and place of birth into this system. The program then combines astrology, I Ching, and human genetics to create a printed out chart.
At first, the chart doesn’t really look like anything in particular. There are obvious areas (loosely associated with the chakras) that are coloured and a whole lot of little numbers and lines. Each chakra, each line, and each gate all mean specific things. As you go through the book, you begin interpreting these bits to create a personal view of yourself.
I really enjoyed the process of interpreting my chart. At first, it seemed like a lot of information but after a bit I started seeing very distinct patterns, even in my key relationships. Things that are really useful for my inner work and for self awareness. Of course, the book is meant as an introduction into Human Design, to get an in depth view the author does personalized readings.
This book is WILD! I love any kind of hippie woo woo, personality typing stuff, and this one takes the cake. It took me a while to pull this book off my shelf because I didn't want anything to ruin my love of astrology, and haven't been able to put the book down since. Loved every second of reading it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I haven’t stopped thinking or talking about this book since I read it. It should be required reading. Lots of quotables and highlights.
Great book to start diving into your human design chart. It’s easy to read and I found more understanding in how I am standing in the world and how I could live it. Also very interesting to investigate your close relatives or friends! Great conversations happened with this book :)!
It should go without saying that any system that tells you to be authentic and then defines you is at best problematic and at worst abusive. I appreciate Human Design as a TOOL for self-inquiry. Like most self-help stuff, it relies on you relating to it. I am interested in Human Design, so I'm going to critique the book here, not the system ;)
That said, this seems like a really ok beginner book. I read thoroughly in the beginning but eventually read mostly the bits that applied to the charts relevant in my life.
The celebrity examples seemed superficial/too broad (ex. The way Beckham plays soccer according to profile doesn't do it for me. Trained disciplines can go beyond profile.)
There wasn't that much discussion of how Astrology, Kabbalah, IChing and Chakra systems inform Hunan Design. Unless I missed it, it didn't do much more than name them, whereas a more significant acknowledgement and explanation could have been made.
Human Design (like much of Western Culture) is appropriative. Understanding those source "inspirations" may be considered too advanced by the author? If so, I'm a little insulted! ;-P I see I'm in the minority in not loving this book. I have a background in Astrology and Hermetic Qabalah (for the record: also appropriative and historically racist) so I don't think this book was written for me.
I appreciated the structure of the book from broad to specifics, especially the detail of when we have openned gates that don't make complete paths. This got me.looking at the charts of my loved ones. I appreciate the advice I got for my own aura type.
I wish there had been more detail in the profile section - explaining the two parts of our profiles separately. I also felt the profiles were too positive and too gentle. Where our aura impacts the way we engage with others, our profile is where we can really understand our own way of life. I really think it needs details.
Unfortunately, more detailed information can be found online and in social media for free. It must be very difficult for authors to compete. I'm grateful this one was available to me.
This was the first book I read about , and it truly helped me begin to see how this system works. There are numerous sites out there that will give you a review however won't go very deep without acquiring a class or something. This book gives every one of the details most people will need. It additionally incorporates their software so you can get the details on your whole family or even observe what may have happened on the off chance that you were conceived a day sooner.
appears like a complicated subject as far as reading the graphs so it took me some time studying my life chart (yep, I downloaded their software). I've discovered so many new insights into my personality and the way I work in life and certain circumstances. Would definitely recommend if you have a feeling that you continue hitting blocks in your life, this will truly enable you to become more acquainted with yourself and how you affect others!
From the first few pages I had a feeling that I am drawn to some cheep sale channel as for some cutlery or linen. These kind of books that are proposing or selling you "the truth" as you will find the ultimate law about life are extremely dangerous. For anyone, it is extremely easy to write that the hidden "box" within us contains all the truth you are searching about life, but actually they offer nothing. All life on earth is receptive, being a plant that uses sun for photosynthesis, a zebra drinking the water and the instinct that drives them is their purpose, with no ability to question. On the other hand, there is no suggestion in the animal kingdom, the poison that humans search to define them. With the words come lies, while only in silence there is some hope for the truth. If anyone has any psychological problems, I would suggest to avoid any revealing books about truth and which are disecting human condition and placing humans in different categories.
I've studied a few different forms of astrology over the years, and where I've gained insights in them Human Design Astrology is one of the first that I felt that the majority of the material from my chart made sense. I used a different chart resource than the one on his site or his app, so I'd suggest Jovain Archive or Genetic Matrix for getting the free chart, Parkyn's app was a bit disappointing, but this book is a wonderful detailed introduction to Human Design.
To me it’s a must read for anyone who would like to understand herself or himself better. I was not sure that I would believe this tool that was « revealed » in such a recent time (1987). But the key here is to draw your own chart (thanks to your birthdate, hour and place), read up your profile and decide to believe it or not then. Because it reveals to you what your design (nature) is, it’s incredibly empowering and liberating.
Interesting and quite accurate. Although it is a new topic for myself, it apparently have been around long enough. Will definitely read more about it. The book is written simple enough to understand even if you have no idea what is what and how you got here lol. Not a copy of what's on some website, not filled with cheesy, questionable reviews. It is a good source book of the subject.
I love the idea behind the Human Design concept. This book it's useful to understand some of the elements that compose the HD concept, yet I think it's incomplete and oversimplistic to help anyone understand what is it about. However, it's a good start and then you can continue with more complex books about HD.
The information is 4-5 and writing style 1-2 points. If you're interested in the topic, definitely read it, but if you hate stuff that's written for absolute IQ-zeros, you should probably skip A LOT of the pages. It freaking begins with 2 poems and a million testimonials... jeesh. But yeah, the info is great.
Firstly, this is pretty poorly written in general and a bit cringe. I stopped reading in horror when I read something along the lines of "people with 6/2 profiles are the women that dont mind spending all weekend shopping alone or the men who spend all weekend on their own pursuits and solo projects." When I realized this was written by a man I was even more disgusted. A bit pathetic for 2009.
Great read. Very informative and interesting perspectives that truly make the reader believe that their human design will set them free. Learning about who you are and how you function makes it easier to navigate throughout life. Pushes you to be yourself and love who you are regardless of external circumstances, people, or situations.
As a trained astrologer and analytics geek, I absolutely love the way this book combines astrology, I Ching, chakras, Kabbalah and physics to paint a detailed picture of how you work in the world.
There’s a ton of detail in this approach, but even some of the simple concepts, like my overall energy type (Generator Manifestor), have been super helpful.
