This book acts as a guide, both emotional and practical, for those going through the drawn out process of divorce and its aftermath. The author is a lawyer and a commited Christian who looks at divorce in the light of scripture.
The author takes a no holds barred approach to the Christian topic of divorce, and strips away the dogmatic nonsense surrounding divorce and the Christian (like "God only cares that you don't divorce, it's okay if you stop living together, stop being friends, if you separate and never see each other again, as long as you don't get a judge to rubber stamp a divorce paper") and actually refers to the bible, and what God, and Jesus, and Paul, and others have all had to say about divorce, and why it is so horrible in Gods' sight (I'll give you a hint: It's about the breakdown of relationship. God hates the breakdown of relationship. It's what started this messy foray into a world full of sin.) As a relatively happily married woman, I found this book powerfully compelling about the importance of the marital relationship, and about what God is really thinking. How have we managed to mess up something so simple in such a huge way? It's a beautiful, and freeing look at how God sees our relationships, and how he sees us, whether we're single, married, divorced or remarried. And the author actually knows what he's talking about as he doesn't quibble about the properly translated version of the bible in English - he cuts straight to the guts of the argument and refers to the Hebrew and Ancient Greek and the fact that there is no clear cut English translation for some of it, and that's where so much of the confusion, and pain, comes from.
