Imani Wright, an elegant, savvy sistah with sweet caramel skin and a sassy mouth, spent her childhood in East New York’s projects. After years of striving and struggling, Imani ascends above it all; loss of loved ones, drug abuse and homelessness, to get everything she wants; the house of her dreams and a top-flight career but still yearns for more. All her life, Imani has waited and yearned for nothing more than the chance to meet her mother and fill the wound created by her absence. Imani tries desperately to build the perfect family for her daughter but distrust and insecurities drive away the love she needs to be happy and whole. Imani’s obsession for perfection and reconnecting with her past blocks the happiness she desires to make her feel complete and may ultimately jeopardize her life.

Quinton Banks, known to friends as “Q”, instantly gained popularity amongst women with his boyish charm mixed with milk chocolate skin. Nevertheless, Quinton realized that he was not interested in Ms. Right Now but simply Ms. Right. Quinton adored the attention he got from women, which led him astray from the destiny he had designed in the fashion that only a ‘fatherless child’ could, to become a better man than the man that had abandoned him many years ago. However, the street’s calling deferred his dream and consumed him with false expectations, fast money and bountiful amounts of women. He had crossed the path of his soul mate but she was never able to capture his heart. Quinton’s life was riding on a high while his heart continued to weigh heavy, for on the inside he knew he could never be satisfied.

Together they learn that it takes more than just love to make a relationship evolve into something bigger, something solid, and something sacred. These characters teach us that perfection is not always the key for complete satisfaction. It takes sacrifice, patience and above all devotion.

He Say/She Say

COMPLETELY SATISFIED by Danette Maroney-Davoren is a love story told from main characters Imani Wright and Quinton Banks’ voice. Imani Wright grew up never knowing her mother or father. When her grandmother, who raised her, passed away, Imani’s brother John took her in and began to act more like a father than her brother. As soon as Imani entered high school and saw Quinton, it was love at first sight; for her anyway. It took a few years before Quinton really noticed her and from there, their whirlwind romance ensued.

Quinton Banks wants more than anything to be the man that Imani so rightfully deserves. Unfortunately, he is drawn to the ladies, and with rumors circulating through the neighborhood about Quinton cheating and possibly having babies by other women, is it too much for Imani to handle? Although he loves Imani, he just cannot seem to get it right. Every time it seems as if he is on the right track, something always knocks him back off. Will Quinton get his act together before it is too late? Or will Imani walk away and cut her losses?

COMPLETELY SATISFIED was a very good debut. It is a tale of drama, love, humor and suspense. Ms. Davoren takes the reader on a journey from a teenage love affair to adulthood. The story is told from each of their point of view, that way you are told both sides of the story. “Live life to your own set of rules and make the most of every moment. Life is too short to wonder about the should haves, could haves, would haves. You’ll never be able to move forward if you’re always looking back.” Wise advice from this debut author. Don’t judge a book by its cover because I was pleasantly surprised in the story that unfolded between these pages. I would definitely recommend!
