Not bad. As a matter of fact, pretty good. It's just that I had a little problem with the hero. This guy was one of those heroes that thought he wasn't good enough for the heroine, that he would only end up hurting her (literally, in his case), etc., etc.... It didn't matter that she constantly assured him that she wanted him, was willing to take a chance on him, believed in him, loved him...this guy was just trying to be too darn noble; he wanted to save the heroine from the type of person he thought he was destined to become. Anyway, this may not be a big deal to some readers, and it may sound like I'm nitpicking, but this guy was really starting to frustrate me! But I will say one thing, I loved how the heroine handled him in the end. She was one strong heroine with a lot of guts.
The basis of the story is this: the Wild Riders are a secret organization of undercover agents who help out the government in less than legal ways. All of the Wild Riders are bikers, and have at one time or another been in trouble with the law. Their boss is a former military general who recruited them from jails or off the streets. The heroine of this story, Jessie Matthew, was a one-time street kid who was rescued by one of the Wild Riders as a 15 year old, and brought to live at their compound. Now 23, Jessie thinks of all the Wild Riders as brothers, except for one--Diaz Delgado. She's got the hots big time for Diaz, and just wishes that he would notice her. Little does she know that Diaz has been noticing Jessie for some time.
Jessie's been in training to become a Wild Rider, and the time has come for her first 'mission'. As luck would have it, Diaz is to be her partner on this mission. They are to infiltrate a notorious biker gang that is suspected to be selling illegal arms to a survivalist group. The government is worried about these wackos being armed to the teeth, and they need someone on the inside to find out all the players in this illegal activity. Enter the Wild Riders.
Jessie and Diaz hook up pretty easily with the biker gang, winning their friendship fairly easily. All that's left is to survive their 'initiation', which includes some fist fighting with the gang members to prove their 'toughness', and having sex in front of the gang members, to prove their openness and willingness to share. Piece of cake, right?
Well, maybe not. It seems that Jessie, with all her sexiness and wild ways, is actually a virgin. And she's not too excited about losing her virginity in public, or to a gang member. She was hoping to give herself to Diaz, since she's already half way in love with him, and was actually saving herself for him. Can she convince him to do this little favor for her?
There's no question that Jaci Burton can write a hot sex scene-- there are some real scorchers in this book! And even though she's a novice, Jessie learns very quickly. Of course it helps to have a smokin' hot teacher like Diaz Delgado. I just wished Diaz would have been a little less stubborn in his belief that he could never allow himself to fall in love. I know he had some emotional problems he needed to get a handle on, I just wasn't convinced that they were enough to prevent him from having a relationship with the right woman.
I really admired Jessie as a heroine, and even though I was a little disappointed in Diaz, it didn't destroy my enjoyment of the book. It was an erotic and mostly fast paced read, and luckily, stubborn Diaz finally got his act together. I would give it 3 1/2 to 4 stars. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series, "Riding On Instinct".
