An astounding pictorial reference to ancient history explores the origins of writing, crafts, politics, and more with the help of time charts, indexes, and aerial photography of ancient sites.
I'm giving this 5 stars, because I bought it to tempt my grandson towards a love of history, and and I think its just super for a youngster who hasn't had much intro into the field. Lovely pictorial maps, lots of interesting facts - it's just the sort of thing that got me started on my journey into the past. I think even high schoolers might enjoy it.
How much of this accepted knowledge and timeline is because we cannot peer any farther back? Nice to remind oneself of the comfortable certainty of just a few decades ago.
A nice, basic guide to the ancient civilizations and the sections of the world that they governed. Lots of illustrations and pictures to help get a feel for the eras.
A very good, basic Atlas. It gives just enough information to make you want to research and learn more or to just have a quick read and learn some facts, without flooding everything with random information just to fill the pages. I would really like it though if the the maps were a bit better designed and more realistic.
