Usagi goes from village darling to castle clown, but that's not going to stop her from doing her best! She's going to get her man and become a ninja, and not even two super-skilled shinobi beauties can stop her!
Usagi is the granddaughter of the leader of a prestigious ninja village, but she's such a klutz that she's never made it out of the kiddie class. Frustrated with Usagi's lack of progress, her grandfather sends her to marry Lord Hanzo and have lots of ninja babies. But the lord has no interest in her or her childbearing potential!
Usagi will remain in Ieyasu's household forever, apart from her beloved Hanzo, unless she can come up with an elixir of eternal youth. Usagi journeys to a mountain to find a hermit who supposedly knows how to create such an elixir, but he has no intention of sharing his knowledge with her. Even if Usagi is successful, there are others who don't want to see her free to return to Hanzo's arms...
She is a Japanese manga artist who does mainly shojo manga. Her works are primarily serialized in Margaret magazine, with series published in collected volumes by Shueisha, though she has also been featured in fellow Shueisha publication Ribon, as well as illustrating the novel adaptation of her own Stepping on Roses series in Cobalt.
What an interesting story we get about the Mountain Hermit. And Hanzo taking on a pet bunny is so adorable!!! We get 3 new characters including a monkey in this one. And no real answers to about any of them (granted one was very last minute but still!)! I have mixed thoughts with the Hanzo and kimonos scenes though. Sweet and yet he was bossy when he didn't need to be. He kinda sucks at expression his thoughts and feelings
Read the first three a few years ago. The characters are charming, for the most part. Has a short message about the true meaning of long life that was a very sweet.
I thought Usagi was super annoying in this. She really needs Hanzo around, at all times. He makes her palatable. I'm actually really surprised how all the guys just love her too. It borders on ridiculous.
The further along I go in this series, the more and more I feel like Yukimaru is easily becoming my favorite character.
I enjoyed this volume well enough; I have minor qualms still about Hanzo's sudden interest in Usagi, but I'll swallow them for the time being. (And don't get me started on the fat-shaming. My god, I hoped that that was an exaggeration, but it turns out it wasn't, and I'm so disappointed to see that's in here.)
Still love and adore the art style and am enjoying the story though.
Every volume is improving. I still don’t get why Usagi loves Hanzo so much (other than for her assignment), considering she is so good with medicine. She could give up being a ninja and do that, and find someone else. I know that isn’t the plot though, but logically it would make more sense. And why does Hanzo have slight feelings for her back when all he does is complain about her? I feel like I will have to suspend my belief more if I want to continue this series.
Getting better, some laugh out loud moments. Sometimes this story is so ridiculous, definitely lighthearted fare. Kind of jumps all over the place, but funny. No naked folks this time (phew). Almost a romantic moment beteween Hanzo and Usagi, then he ruins it. Are those two actually going to get together?
Another good volume in the series where Usagi and friends climb the mountain to find the Hermit and they finally do, hoping also to find the Elixir of Eternal Youth. The ending made me think uh oh, who's this character and what's going to happen to the not yet couple of Usagi and Hanzo?
Usagi finds out that the hermit is her ancestor after they bring Goemon to him to fix his foot. Usagi returns to Iga prefecture and Hanzo tells her she needs to lose weight.
