Everyone was paired up but me and that meant cubs were next. I couldn’t be here for that. Wouldn’t be here for that. No matter how much I loved the place.
Malcolm knew his time here was running out. The crew was growing, finding their mates, and he couldn't take the painful reminder of what he lost. As he was preparing to leave, a little family showed up in need of support and he couldn't seem to walk away. Especially when the single mom and her little boy kept looking to him for support. He needs to decide if he's willing to let go of the past and try and be happy or to run before he ends up hurting everyone around him in his desperation to escape.
When Carmen realized her son wasn’t human, she was terrified of what would happen if people found out. Determined to protect him, she upended her life and fled to a small town in Montana to keep him hidden. With the help of the local crew, she hopes to give him a better life. Along the way she finds herself drawn in by the construction worker a few trailers away and she fears history is repeating itself because she’s falling for a man she knew was leaving. But when her ex shows up out of nowhere causing trouble, there’s only one person she trusts to keep her and her little bear safe.
A.F. Montoya is a daydreamer turned writer who writes contemporary mafia romances. She’s been reading romance novels since her mother bought her one as a joke when she was a teen and now writes them and shares them with her mother, much to her chagrin. She enjoys reading in her spare time and supporting other authors. When she isn’t writing or thinking about new book ideas she is supporting her husband and kids.
I knew the second that Malcolm started talking about leaving because the other couples were starting to have kids that this was going to be a single parent romance. The way he bonded with Carmen and Javi and shifted everything he thought he knew about the world was great to read. I love protective characters, and Malcolm's desire to keep them both safe and well with his new crew really worked for me.
While I applaud bringing some racial diversity into this series, there are a few clunky aspects of Carmen and Javi's characters and I would have loved to see their backgrounds more richly drawn and some authenticity readers to help them feel even more real.
Honestly the only reason I gave this a 4 and really I would say 4 1/2-4 3/4stars was for an annoying petty thing on my part 🤦🏼♀️….Carmens non stop spanish. Oye it just grated on me for some reason and I get she is Latina I get it she was a Spanish teacher but, it was almost just too much and is honestly my only complaint! Malcom and his gorilla were amazing! Him and Carmen were fire and Mal with Javi?? Omg!!! So cute!
