In tough economic times, conventional jobs can be hard to find. A home-based business could be the answer for many people. Making Money from Home compares the cost of working outside the home with the benefits of working from home. It provides readers with the tools they need to run a successful home business, such as time management advice, details on the foundations of a solid business, tips on marketing goods and services, legal issues to consider, and information on how to use the Internet effectively and how to create a business plan.
To live a life that actually counts for the Kingdom?
Do you read the great stories of how God worked throughout church history – and think: YES, that’s what I want to be part of!
I write books to empower women to Do What Matters - for their personal well-being, to strengthen their key relationships and most of all, to make a difference in this world.
Many people have been blessed by my free Make Today Great Daily Planning Form - you are welcome to grab a copy at www.donnapartow.com/great
My current mission is raising up an army of Kingdom-minded digital nomads. I keep scratching my head, wondering when the church is going to figure out that the greatest opportunity in history is right here, right now. It’s called location independence and it means you can live and work anywhere in the world you feel called to make a difference.
If you’re ready to combine your love for God, the thrill of travel and the skill required to build an online presence, then I invite you to come away with me to be trained at the annual Lifestyle Freedom Event.
I dislike the situation more than I dislike the coping solution.
I really enjoyed this helpful and practical guide - so much so that I renewed and renewed until I owed dues on this library find.
And yet, months later when I'm spending a little time writing this review the overarching aspect of this insightful author's testament to helping herself, her family, and others, specifically women, was that religion is some patriarchy-entrenching bullshit.
I know, I know, this review has unglued, you could say it wasn't fastened from the beginning - complaining about such a minor aspect of this otherwise-empowering book.
It's the tip-toeing around your husband's feelings that stuck with me. Caution for the heavenly father's scorn and judgement from your prideful husband. Here's a woman who's going out and making the most of things - finding ways to run a successful business and enabling others to do so as well so long as it's kosher with the man of the house. Ensure his needs are met before you dare do a thing for yourself, and even still, bargain for his permission. What an unfortunate fantasy religion has built and becomes upheld, willingly here in text a number of times.
However, these religious instances flared only sparingly and religion and patriarchy was spatulated to the back-burner for most of this book, allowing for me to learn a great deal about writing avenues.
Making Money from Home is a great book geared toward women desiring to start a home-based business. It is full of encouragement and ideas on how to achieve balance between your home life and your business.
It offers pros and cons for including your children in your business and offers suggestions to avoid your children resenting you and your business.
Pros and cons for working with your spouse are also included. Topics are suggested for couples to discuss before going into business at home. Partow stresses honoring your spouse’s wishes and keeping their needs in mind. It is important to keep the lines of communication open so that the business doesn’t rule or ruin your life and marriage.
There are many links sprinkled throughout this book for sites to help you research your business idea, to link your website, and other things. This book was published in 2010, so some of the links are no longer working. An Internet search should help you to find the information that you need for doing the suggested research.
Partow’s Making Money with Donna website does not appear to have been updated since 2013, but still contains posts that would be of value to someone starting a business at home.

Rating: This book deserves 4 stars. It is well thought out, well organized, etc.
In General: This book is very well done. Partow has this book broken up into "parts," which contain chapters, which contain divisions. Each "part" begins with a real-life story of a woman who has a successful home-based business and succeeds in that particular area the section addresses. Each chapter ends with a list of questions for you to ask yourself and "homework assignments." I believe her goal is for the reader to have her business set up and ready to run by the end of the book. Partow also does a good job addressing the personal/familial concerns of running a business at home. She also directs her readers to other resources if they have more questions.
My Beef: If I weren't attempting to be fair, I would have given this book 3-star rating mostly because, well, I felt like a lot of her motivation to write this book was to make money rather than to share her knowledge on a subject she knows much about. I also felt there was a bit of an arrogance in her style. This perception might have been aided by the fact this book contained those large print excerpts showing the deep and profound point of the section. I felt those cheapened this book. I mean, this book is well organized, well broken up, easily navigated: I can find that sentence very easily without having it be blasted at me. Also, I wasn't quite prepared for the whirlwind tour she put me on while I read this book. Granted, I would definitely pick up this book again in the future, but I felt like she gave me too much information (almost to the point of deterring me from further research on this subject).
The Good:Making Money from Home: How to Run a Successful Home-Based Business was another of the books I borrowed from the public library. And, like Ravi Zacharias's I, Isaac, take Thee, Rebekah: Moving from Romance to Lasting Love, I didn't realize what I was getting. This book is marketed towards mothers. It also is a Focus on the Family/Tyndale book. When I first got it I cringed thinking it was going to be another useless book a Christian company was promoting simply because the author claimed Christianity. Low and behold, I was impressed. Partow knows what she is talking about and provides a concise, yet thorough, discussion of what I would consider all aspects of starting a small business. This book is set up in a cross between a novel and self-help book format. It is more personal than a lot of the other small business books I requested, it is a lot smaller than the other ones, but it is incredibly thorough and well-done. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to jump-start their small business, especially if they want it to grow quite large in the future.
Making Money from Home is a personal coach in "soft cover" format for helping you to make money from the comfort of your own home. Donna has given us a thorough, informative, and extremely practical guidebook on the steps to getting started and maintaining a home business.
I began reading this book with the mindset that I would learn how to make some extra money on the side while staying home. While I picked up many tips and ideas to help me accomplish this, I would say the main focus of this book is about building a bigger business than just some "extra cash". It shows you how to build a career from working at home.
This is the perfect handbook and encouragement for those who work outside the house and want to make the jump to working from home. I found chapter 10, on legal and financial issues, to be very helpful as it took some deeper topics and made them simple to understand. And I also greatly appreciated the chapter on E-bay which literally gives you the step-by-step knowledge of how to make it work for you.
Donna makes the whole process sound so easy. Maybe even too easy. I could understand someone getting either hyped-up or discouraged by reading this book. Remember that working from home is not for everyone. In fact, the one thing that I didn't like about this book was that I felt the benefits of working from home were overemphasized and in doing so, the role of a homemaker was downplayed. At times the message of the book seemed to be flirting with the line of greed and traditional homemakers may not agree with Donna's philosophy. Having everything the way you want it is not as easy as Donna presents it to be.
However, this book is not just for the homemaker looking to bring in some cash, it can be read by anyone - male or female, married or single. The questions at the end of each chapter are some of the best "discussion questions" I have ever seen in a book. They are practical and applicable; truly aiding in the understanding of the book on a personal level. Anyone wanting extra money or a full-time job can glean from this book, but I would recommend it more to someone who wants to seriously pursue a full-time job from the home setting.

I wasn't expecting much from this book. Even after learning of the book from the author's interview on Focus on the Family, I still expected something about ebaying and other obvious ideas. I was wrong! This woman is a tiger! She has figured out multiple ways for moms to earn a good (great?) living from home. I read the book, but now I need to go back and check out the websites she recommends, etc. I don't know if I have the intestinal fortitude, time and energy to attack this in the way that would make me the most successful, but I was inspired to think of a possible franchise business or something similar. Her expercises to really think about what you can market were very helpful. I would recommend this, but it's not for the faint of heart or for someone who just wants to dip their toe into the water. Donna Partow wants you to dive in head first.
A fantastic resource for anyone with a home business or looking to start one. It's targeted to the Christian mother looking to add to family income or allow her a way to make a living while staying at home, but the concepts to apply to any of us trying to make our way in our own businesses. I am adding this to my "must buy" book list as the helpful worksheets and resource materials left me dog earing every page - definitely the sign of a keeper.
I enjoyed this book. I think the title was kind of misleading though. She basically teaches you how to be an internet entrepreneuer, not so much how to run a small business from your home. It is a good read though. I dont know if it will help you make millions but it is a good start if you are motivated enough to apply the lessons at the end of the chapters.
Some of the information of this book is outdated within today’s business era taken it was published in 2010, so I mostly skimmed through it. However, what I did find useful was the information on business taxes as a sole proprietor and LLC as well as understanding every type of deduction.
Very inspiring. Allowed and Encouraged me to focus on developing an at home business. Who knows... I've started to put some of the advice into practice so hopefully it'll all work out.
