The down-trodden, blue-collar nature of the yarn will betray the complex and literary heart beating at the center of this unsung masterpiece. Stumbled on it in a used bookstore and was immediately taken with the size and look of it, but it was the writing that absolutely gripped me. Wildly inventive and in-character, with street characters and realities that inspire both empathy and outrage. I am eager to find more work by Henson.
