Thomas Eakins: His Life and Work

Rate this book
Excerpt from Thomas Eakins, His Life and Work

Writing a sturdy figure, and a round head strongly Irish in character, with bald brow, shaggy eyebrows, patient gray eyes, a long clean-shaven upper lip, an old-fashioned fringe of whiskers below the chin, and an expression at once firm and benign, with a touch of humor; and strong, steady hands, used to years of exacting work.

Picked this one from three other books about Thomas Eakins, for I thought it will be a comprehensive biography and a decent work commentary. I wasn't disappointed. It was a page-turner. For Eakins is absolutely an enlightening personality to know about, and the author provides sufficient examples equipped with a good narrative of the artist to supplement the book. There is, of course, a full cataloge of his paintings and works at the end of the book.
