Commanded by Night

Rate this book
Veronica Espinoza, shifter zoologist. I worked hard for my degree and enjoyed my job until I ran into a paranormal I couldn’t place into a neat box.

In the slums of Crescent City, I studied shifters, vampires, and magicians in the paranormal underworld to find the origins of T3V, a virus that turns humans into creatures of the night.

But when my partner, a Lycan doctor, comes across a rare blood-borne shifter disease, I know there’s only one being who can find the cure–my ex, Jasmine, a powerful vampire heiress to the largest blood bank in town.

Once bitten, twice shy. I know I shouldn’t give my heart to her again to manipulate, even if it means finding a cure. But I need Jasmine's help and have craved her touch since the night she saved me from being turned.

There’s only a matter of time before forces beyond my control command me to submit to the queen of the night. But will love or blood lust win out during our deadly game of cat and mouse?

Commanded by Night (Vampires of Crescent City) is a standalone F / F omegaverse vampire fpreg romance set in the universe of Luna City.

CW: Sexual Content, Blood, Violence, Cursing, Implied Dub-Con because this is an Omegaverse book but NOT(!) between the main couple

3.5 / 5 Stars

I wasnt sure about this book at first, since this is an Omegaverse book and Im usually anything but a fan. And yet, something about the book was speaking to me, so I decided to take the risk, already expecting to be dissapointed. But then ...the book kinda didn't?

You see, I have issues with most Alpha/Omega dynamics cause they are soaked in dub-con /non-con vibes and that's my personal line of discomfort that I hate to cross. So when it was clear that that element wouldn't be present I visibly relaxed, opening myself up to Omegaverse slowly, one page at a time. The way Betas get treated was kind of more explored than I thought - more would have been cool of course - especially when it came to expectations and love life.
The book kind of flew by and before I knew it, I was already done.

The two main leads have nice chemistry and while it was a very sexual book, it wasn't as bad as I feared. Maybe they werent always the most healty couple - communication is key my girls - but they tried and got better along the way.

The plot made me laugh a bit because it was very heavily sidelined in favour for the love to bloom, just for the book to end very cheesy and fluffy and maybe a bit - or a lot - more romantic than the build up we get beforehand.
The ending is also my biggest complaint , kinda, but I cant say more without spoiling stuff.

The world is nice, the inter-personal conflict is also nice and the relationship is cute. But the story lacks the final 'umpf' if you know what I mean.

I'll give it 4 goodread stars though because I feel like it.

Final Thoughts:

Nothing too deep, but a nice quick read for sure.

I was confused most of this whole book. It actually should not have the 'fpreg' as a trope- it doesn't even happen until the last 5% and was sadly underplayed and glossed over. I wanted this to be better, it really should've been. The spice was weird and choppy. Idk just wasnt for me sadly.

3 stars. The potential was definitely here. I didn’t hate this at all, it’s campy and cheesy but a lot of fun. The writing wasn’t my favorite but that’s because I found the dialogue to be awkward. I liked Veronica and Jasmine and their romance and the world building was intriguing. I just wish the editing had been better because this could’ve been great. As it is it’s entertaining and I really liked the way this ending and that adorable epilogue.

The world-building is confusing, the relationship isn't incredibly healthy, specially when one keeps lying or omitting almost to the very ending, it didn't seem like they have that much chemistry or even loved each other that much, it felt pretty forced, and I dont particularly like the end.

The worldbuilding was a little confusing at times and I didn't love Veronica at some points, but a solid PNR! Loved seeing Jasmine's journey as a character. Wish we got to see more of the Alistair family so their arc would have had more payoff at the end.
