Very interesting read. I heard Ron Rash mention the book when discussing his research for his latest novel, The Caretaker.

Ruth Little was a session chair for a paper I presented on cemeteries and I very much enjoyed chatting with her as I was reading this. It is a wonderful book highlighting the unique grave traditions of North Carolina though it's a challenge to tackle so wide a topic in so few pages. Certainly these markers are to a large extent the outliers but her analysis give great insight into the patterns that emerge. This does favor certain geographical areas and a relatively small sample size but neither detract from excellent research and a great read.
