The Shadow

What a thrill to find that the storyline [of Scripture] is the exaltation of Christ through the redemption of man! With thoughtful prose and a warm style, Ryan Dalgliesh makes this truth real for the reader. I encourage you to let Ryan help you see God's plan unfolding in the Scriptures! -Dr. Steven Smith, Southwestern Baptist Theological Have you ever wondered why Christ died for sins? Or maybe you have been confused by seemingly strange events in the Old Testament. Author Ryan Dalgliesh has an explanation, and it is the wonderful consistency of God. Before God even began to create the universe, he established the plan of salvation for mankind through his Son. From the beginning, God has revealed that plan over and over, recording those prophecies in the Scriptures through the hands of holy men. From the first animal slaughtered as Adam and Eve were forced to leave the Garden of Eden, to Malachi prophesying the arrival of John the Baptist, the Old Testament is a vivid tribute to God's love and provision for humanity. With a strong devotion to the Scriptures mixed with a little artistic license, The Shadow is both an exciting and thought-provoking experience, giving readers a deeper appreciation for the stories in the Old Testament. Ryan's vibrant exposition will inspire readers to search for more of the hundreds of prophecies that give witness to the truth. See how God foretold of his plan in stories - the Flood and Noah's ark - the Passover - the manna from heaven - Jacob's ladder - Jonah in the belly of the fish - and many more...

Almost epic in the telling, Ryan Dalgliesh has poured out a pastor’s heart as he guides the reader through several Old Testament historical biblical accounts that reveal Jesus Christ throughout all history in ‘The Shadow.’

It is attributed to Augustine to have said “The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed. The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.” In this book, specific accounts are identified in which Jesus Christ and His provision for His creation are clearly seen but at first glance one might miss.

Sectioned not by chapter and verse, but by specific account, each historical story is accentuated by the authors own conception of the event, prompting the reader to envision these images.

What must it have been like to walk with God in the garden? How did Moses react to a flame that does not consume the bush? How did seeing a ladder change the life of a scoundrel moving him to name the place?

Christians know these stories. Some have read them many times, still, I never grown tired of hearing vivid descriptions of these stories and especially focusing on them ‘hidden’ or ‘concealed’ views of Jesus Christ.

At times, New Testament accounts are mentioned which illuminate the story all the more. At the end of each section is not simply a biblical reference but the entire passages. Reading through this book, I often referenced these sections at the end of the chapter and searched the bible further on certain points made by the author.

A book that stirs bible study is always a worthy read.

Most encouraging to me was the portions of the book where the author presents the gospel after revealing to what length Jesus Christ has gone to provide salvation to mankind.

This is a book for anyone who considers the Old Testament as ancient history with no bearing on New Covenant life. Read The Shadow and discover Jesus Christ in every chapter and verse of your bible.

Wonderful insight to the scripture on the foreshadowing of the Messiah in the Old Testament. I definitely think its worth the short time it takes to read.

This was such a powerful and eye opening read. It helped me view things in the Old Testament that were so clearly a picture of Christ in a way I had never imagined. Well done Ryan!

Ryan does a great job of showing how the bible is a story of Jesus, from cover to cover! Now I will look at scripture with new eyes to see where Jesus is throughout the pages.
