Gerry Souter did a wonderful job in detailing the history of firefighting in the United States as seen through the architectural changes in fire stations across the country. He provides enough details, both historical and architectural, to show a great grasp of the subject and keep the story moving forward, while not bogging the narrative down with arcane language and technical speak. The photos in this coffee table book properly accentuate the points that he discusses in the narrative. It turned out to be a good read.
