In a world where the supernatural isn’t supposed to exist, one woman comes face to face with the monsters and fights to survive their call.
Investigative reporter Rayna Ford is sent to the small community of Wolf’s Creek to write an expose on a town supposedly over run with werewolves. Assuming the inhabitants to be under a mass delusion, she learns quickly that all isn’t as it seems. Their plans involve more than a newspaper article and her life hangs in the balance as their motive for luring her to them is revealed.
Garrett Kincaid knows a thing or two about werewolves. He is one. After leaving his pack, he’s spent the last twelve years pretending to be something he isn’t. His closely guarded secret threatens to destroy him when he meets Rayna Ford, the woman his wolf has claimed as his own. When he learns the pack has lured Rayna to them in order to get to him, he races to Wolf’s Creek to protect her from the very thing he fears the most. Himself.
The power struggle within the pack becomes clear once Garrett reaches his old home and learns of the packs plans for Rayna. The beast lurking beneath his skin is torn between protecting the woman he wants to call mate and keeping the balance within the pack on neutral ground. When choosing a side no longer matters, he does what he must to save his mate, even if that means making one of the most difficult decisions of his life.
When the stakes are high, and lives hang in the balance, can you ignore life as you know it to answer…The Calling.
Lily Graison is a USA TODAY bestselling author of historical western romances. She also writes a variety of genres under the name L. R. Grasion. Most all of her stories lean heavily to the spicy side with strong female leads and heroes who tend to always get what they want. On occasion, she can be found penning ‘sweet’ romances with chaste kisses and wholesome values. Ever a romantic, she believes in love at first sight and has a tendency to fall for bad-boy romance heroes.

Not sure how I got this book. I am voluntarily reviewing it. This is a different take on the werewolf image. I liked the main characters. A little violent. Not everything got resolved. 3.5 stars
The Calling by Lily Graison The Night Breed Series Book 1 Rayna Ford is an investigative reporter. She is good at what she does but these days the man she has to see at the crime scenes tears her in half. Garrett Kincaid. She hurts when she sees him and hurts when she don't. After six months he broke things off with her suddenly, if that wasn't bad enough...whenever he sees her he cuts to the quick. And yet she yearns to see him. Mitch, her co-worker, talks her into going up to Wolf's Creek to meet with Malcolm, a man who has been stalking her and driving her crazy to come interview him. After sending pictures and claiming the whole town is werewolves...Mitch and Rayna head out together for the assignment. Into a world that will change their lives forever.
Garrett is a detective and keeps running into Rayna at the crime scenes. Not that he doesn't watch over her anyway. He despises the way he treats her but he needs her to stay away from him, to keep her safe. When he learns she's heading towards his old town he has no choice but to go after her to Wolf's Creek. The very thing he kept hid from her is going to come to light in a very dangerous way.
Come on an adventure to Wolf's Creek where a pack of werewolves reside. Jacob the gangly kid who still looks sixteen, Carmen the devious villain who can charm the clothes off any man...or wolf...almost, Caleb the blue haired Alpha, along with Judith, Bryce and a whole pack of folks. There is a bit of gore when fights break out and heads go flying. I enjoyed the story line and you just know another book would be coming to tie up loose ends. The second book in the series is called The Gathering. **Sexual situations http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Rayna is a reporter/journalist. She comes to a crime scene where women are being brutally murdered. Garrett, her last boyfriend, who happens to also be a detective, finds Rayna at the scene. Garrett knows a lot more about the murders than he is willing to share with Rayna. He thinks he's protecting her, but what he doesn't realize is that he just set her up for danger. Rayna's boss has demanded she investigate Malcolm, a man who has requested Rayna come to his house so he can prove to her that werewolves are real. Little does Rayna know that not only does Malcolm want to expose the werewolves to her but he wants to make her one and expose the werewolves to the world. When Garrett finds out where Rayna has gone, he goes to save her because he knows that Malcolm wants more than he is leading on. Rayna will have to fight to keep from getting turned into a werewolf and Garrett is the only one that can help her. She finds that Garrett has loved her all along and only broke her heart to save her from his past. I was on the fence when I started this book. I was worried that Rayna was going to be this weak,"help me", female character. I was wrong. Rayna is a strong female character who comes to realize what she wants and what she willing to fight for. The story takes place in a remote town inhabited by werewolves, and brings in other supernatural characters. There is lots of action, and twists and turns which keeps you on the edge till the end.
I wasn’t sure whether I was going to like this story or not at first. I ended up really liking it and I am glad that I have the next one in the series to immediately start reading on.
The story starts out just introducing you to the main characters Garrett and Rayna. You find out about their past and how it seems that Garrett now hates Rayna. There is nothing supernatural here at all but then comes a news story about a town of werewolves and Rayna is forced to find out more to write the story on. I liked how the supernatural element was introduced in this story. It was introduced a little different and I liked it but I am not spoiling it for you.
Once there Rayna uncovers a plot that scares her to death because she is at the center of it. This story has many twists and turns some of which I did not see coming. Not all characters are how they seem and it really kept me interested in the storyline.
The story is a good length. It was not too long and not too short. The ending left it open for the next book and I can’t wait to delve into the next one to see what Garrett and Rayna are up to next. Something tells me I will see some of these other villain characters again.
*I received this free from the author in exchange for an honest review.*
Ms. Graison tells a werewolf story like no other I’ve ever read. She has added a few new twists to the traditional werewolf tale, like non-belief in werewolves (like us in current day) and fighting the call of the wolf within (reluctant werewolf). But there are still the exciting pack mentality issues and battles, and the selection of mates and mating rituals. In other words, it is a rousing story that keeps your eyes glued to the page from beginning to end. I liked Rayna and Garrett's story -- a lot.
An amazing story with amazing characters. Very easy to get hooked into the atmosphere created and fall in love with the book. Perfect love story, which really has you rooting for the main characters. Also a great insight into the pack. There also some wonderful paranormals in their, although small parts in the scheme of things I would love to read more on...especially the vamp! Read this book it is fantastic.
I really liked this book. The conflict between the two hero and heroine is immence. I even had to shed a tear. However, as the story progresses and the conflict gets resolved, I really loved the ending and how the heroine chooses to get the hero back. It made me laugh and then sigh, ahhhh!
Now, with only one loose end that I can think of, will there be a sequel?
Eh... it wasn't what I was expecting. I liked it, but it did not wow me and I didn't feel a strong connection between the hero and heroine, nor did I feel terribly connected to the characters. Still, it wasn't too bad, and I do not regret reading it.
