Reader Advisory: While the world in this book has the traditional werewolf pack structures, social statuses and hot, animalistic sex, the characters aren't shapeshifters.
Gwen Campbell got her start in the magazine industry, writing everything from news stories to children’s fiction to obituaries. When the company she worked for succumbed to economic turndown, she looked at her bank book and gave herself one year to pursue writing full time. The deal was if she made money, she didn’t have to look for a real job. It’s worked out pretty good so far and she still doesn’t have a real job. A life-long believer in romance, she now writes romantic fiction. Gwen is married and she and her husband contribute the success of their relationship to making a point of saying “I love you,” at least once a day, sometimes saying, “Yes, dear,” just because, and making sure the toilet paper always comes over the top of the roll. She says her best sticky-plot resolutions come to her while dog walking.
Smutty PNR romance between werewolf H and h. In spite of the squick factor I enjoyed the smex scenes, the unique PNR worldbuilding and how crazy H was about h. The h was also loving and loyal.
Maybe I could get over the fact that H has a son and therefore had a woman before, who ment something to him. But the fact that she was his mate and he calls her 'his Delphinia' is too much for me. Sadly have to pass on this one. :(
First off, anyone who can read the summary should already be well aware before they delve into this book that it's a May/December pairing. So, if that 'squicks' you, or you can't get past huge age gaps, it makes little sense to put yourself through reading a story that clearly states the heroine is going to hook up with her boyfriend's father.
That being said, this was a decent erotic read, with the exception of the overuse of the word 'punch' as an analogy for a sexual verb. I didn't want to throw it against the wall. I liked the fact that the whole 'mate' trope had a different twist - I LOVED that the heroine was an alpha.
Unfortunately, the length and 'okay' quality left me feeling that this book was not worth the $11 Ellora's Cave sells it for. But it's an Ellora's Cave publication, so overpriced is pretty much the norm.
Mostly, though, I just wanted to point out that HELLO THIS IS A MAY/DECEMBER STORY. Don't read it if you don't like that sort of thing.
I made it through 30+ pages before I just couldn't take it anymore. I was totally squicked out by the son's girlfriend hooking up with the dad, especially considering some of the dialogue/thoughts.
I actually loved this book. It was sexy, different, exciting, hot, fun all rolled up into one lovely book. Would love to see more of this from the author!
