When Officer Peter Giordano is assigned to keep Trevor Haas safe until he can testify against his murderous father, he expects the hardest part of his job will be keeping his hands off the gorgeous witness. The two men hide out in the small, sleepy town of Honeysuckle, fixing up their dilapidated safe house by day...exploring each other's bodies by night.

Their small-town neighbors have some secrets of their own, however, including one that someone is willing to kill to protect. Soon, a neighbor is dead and Pete and Trevor are thrown into the middle of a murder investigation. The two men struggle to keep Trevor's true identity a secret, knowing his father will stop at nothing to silence the star witness against him—even if that means killing his own son.

Pete and Trevor won't have to go it alone. Wash and Rhodes, the crush-worthy heroes from Private Dicks, are along for the ride once again.

^^HIDING OUT, STAYING IN!^^

3.5

COVER- I really like this one. Love the low-slung jeans and the dangerous air created by the gun, and in the distance, you see the other half-naked man it creates a serious sexy scene. Plus the body on that man is just the right kind of lean, one of the covers in this genre that is not recycled. Oh! how I would love to be a board in that house.

I must say I really liked this book, the whole cop protects witness and they end up in a sexy relationship. Though there were reasons why this book did not get a solid 4 stars, the writing was still excellent and the story entertaining.

Peter Giordano is a cop, and an outcast because his fellow officers has figured out he is gay. He is alone when he works, he is called into his superior officer’s office and alarm bells are going off. Well it seems he won’t be ridiculed for being gay, but his assistance is needed in protecting a witness, a gorgeous one at that. He should decline the job and forget about the sexy blond hottie but he takes it anyways and thus begins magic in the making.

Trevor has been on the run from his criminal father who wants him dead, the cops just found him and is placing him in protective custody until he testifies. They failed him once already, and what makes them think this time they can keep him safe. It seems they just might if Officer G has anything to say about it.

A house restoration, small town, and a fascination with the new gay couple and this book becomes a whole lot of laughs. Pretending to be a gay couple in a small town comes with its problems; well the problems aren’t what you expect. Their gang of quirky neighbours, a murderer, and sneaky teenage boy, Trevor and Paul has their hands full.

Trevor and Peter are super hot and a little stupid, if you ever read the book you will find out why. Everything you expect to happen does happen! The sex is abundant, the small town humour frequent, and someone gets murdered. My beef was with Trevor, I am unclear if this man was 17 or in his twenties, he was so immature at times and too standoffish. Otherwise, a solid quick read with a very hot cover.

Easy, steamy; love the cover. Did not love the neighborhood mystery plot or the nearly anticlimactic resolution to Trevor being a witness in danger. I liked the MCs together, although they both acted rather immature (especially Trev who was like a petulant teenager at times). Solid HEA that could have been more believable if the guys had known each other longer.

Such a fun read. This was just such a great series. In this book we get the story of Trevor, the bouncer from Private Dicks. He's going to testify against his father and needs protection until the trial. He gets paired with a cop, Peter.

Peter owns a rundown house in a small town called Honeysuckle so he takes Trevor there, they change his name to Joey and they pose as lovers getting away from the city grind and flipping the house for sell.

This is different from Private Dicks in that there's less banter between Trevor and Peter than there was between Wash and Rhodie. It's more a sweeter story but there is still lots of hot chemistry between these two guys as they navigate their attraction.

Rhodie and Wash do make an appearance for quite a bit of the book, which I loved but they never take over the story, which is nice. It remains firmly about Trev and Peter.

The house is pretty bare of anything while they do renovations and that leads up to this amusing exchange:

"I can't believe you had an extra blow-up mattress and you didn't tell us," Wash bitched from the living room as Pete and Trevor brushed their teeth, crammed into the half-bath.

"You slept right on the floor last night?" Trevor called back around a mouthful of toothpaste. "Ouch."

"Yeah, ouch is right, you hoarding fucker," Wash yelled.

"Floor my ass," Rhodes' voice rumbled from the other room. "You slept on top of me."

"But I felt your pain," Wash cooed. "I'm indignant for you, Rhodie."

"Whatever, princess," Rhodes scoffed.

Their presence adds to the fun and we get a nice little crime to solve as well in the small town. It's really nice to see what's happened to these characters that I enjoyed so much in the first of the series. I can only hope we'll see more of these characters.

Trevor Hass (first appeared in Katie Allen's Private Dicks -- he was a bouncer there, who helped Rhodes and Wash with their investigation) is a key witness for his father's murder trial. Since his life is threatened, officer Peter Giordano is assigned to be his guardian. The two then heads to Honeysuckle, a sleepy town where Peter just recently purchased a house, and going undercover as gay couple. When they realize their attraction to one another, their make believe relationship becomes a bit more real. Then a murder happens in their neighborhood - and they are thrown into a middle of investigation ... which might put Trevor in the spotlight and bring his father down to kill him.

Oh, gosh, I LOVE this story -- way better than the first book. Trevor and Peter are both likeable couple (who knows, Peter stutters when he is nervous!). I like their teasing banter, and their sex scenes are HOT!! Add some colorful neighbors as well as Rhodes and Wash making a comeback, when they decide to have a vacation at Honeysuckle, I am highly entertained with this story. The four guys are hilarious together (Wash is definitely a hoot!) -- when they're working to fix the house as well as hanging out on the porch drinking beer. The murder mystery wraps nicely, but I do see this more as romance than a murder mystery novel anyway.

I would love to revisit these characters -- may I suspect that the Sherrif is gay? *grin* -- again in the future

4.5 stars. This excellent m/m romantic suspense is about a cop who's guarding one of the characters from Private Dicks for seven months until he can testify in a trial. Really, why aren't there more witness protection books that include remodeling the safe house? :) Highly recommended. (Oh, and you really need to read Private Dicks first to get the most out of this book! I promise, it won't be a hardship.) (Just finished reading this for the third time - still great.)

3.5 maybe?
This is hard to rate objectively for me. There were quite a few things that maybe didn't quite work, but the reality is, I liked it.
I was a little upset at the beginning because it seemed that Trevor had received a personality transplant, he was not same adorable, quick to blush guy he was in the first and that saddened me.
I wish the murder mystery had been a little more...intense or frightening-that's just a personal thing.
The talk with Len...something was off about that.
But I liked these guys. I liked that we got to see Rhodie and Wash. I liked the sweet moments. The uncertainty between them, when handled properly was great. I enjoyed it.

Pete & Trevor are super hot and their moments of tenderness really made me fall for them. Fun and fast paced with likable characters this was a very entertaining read. The mystery element is nicely done, there's action and humor throughout. The added bonus of having Wash and Rhodes from Private Dicks join their friends worked well. Overall a wonderful sexy and well written story which I really enjoyed.

3.5 stars.

Why I read it: After the success of Private Dicks and seeing that many of my Goodreads friends loved the follow up book too, I bought this one as well. Damn ARe sales...

What it's about: (from Goodreads) When Officer Peter Giordano is assigned to keep Trevor Haas safe until he can testify against his murderous father, he expects the hardest part of his job will be keeping his hands off the gorgeous witness. The two men hide out in the small, sleepy town of Honeysuckle, fixing up their dilapidated safe house by day...exploring each other's bodies by night.Their small-town neighbors have some secrets of their own, however, including one that someone is willing to kill to protect. Soon, a neighbor is dead and Pete and Trevor are thrown into the middle of a murder investigation. The two men struggle to keep Trevor's true identity a secret, knowing his father will stop at nothing to silence the star witness against him-even if that means killing his own son.Note: Pete and Trevor won't have to go it alone. Wash and Rhodes, the crush-worthy heroes from Private Dicks, are along for the ride once again.

What worked for me (and what didn't): This one didn't work quite as well for me as Private Dicks. Possibly it's because I read them back to back and that made the flaws in this one more obvious, because they were largely missing from the earlier book. I can believe a fast romance when the couple already know and like each other. Established relationships which turn romantic or return to romance work best for me in a shorter format or time frame. Hide Out was a bit longer than Private Dicks (nearly 200 pages) but the romance between Trevor and Pete occurs in a matter of days - when they had never laid eyes on each other before the start of the book. While I liked Trevor and Pete together, the blurb had set me up for a long slow burn - 7 months of home renovations - but, like the romance, the renovations were done at lightning speed (possibly it's the fastest reno in history aside from TV reality shows).

The other thing which bothered me was that for the first part of the book, Trevor and Pete, who are both gay, don't come out to each other and labour under the mistaken belief that the other is just "fucking with him". It got tired real quick.

The murder in Honeysuckle made sense, but the wider story arc of Pete and Trevor hiding out and being effectively undercover to keep away from Trevor's psycho dad, was not as well executed. It seemed to me that Pete and Trevor wouldn't have been that hard to find. And, as it turns out, I was right.

Having said all that, it was an enjoyable read and the characters were charming and fun and sexy as all get out. Once Trevor and Pete admitted to both being gay, things moved much more smoothly. Then there was the appearance (much more than just a cameo) of Rhodie and Wash from book 1. Wash is still making those incomprehensible hand gestures (which Pete doesn't understand either) and the pair help both to solve the local crime and to renovate the house. There is also a smoking sex scene involving all 4 of them - though 2 are only watching.

I would have to say however, that the description, used a couple of times in the book, of coming so hard that it felt like "his insides melted and shot out of his cock" was somewhat disturbing.

What else? This is a good book, but I don't think it was as good as Private Dicks. I think though, that I would have liked it better if there had've been a gap between reading the two books. Again, it is on the pricey side. so wait for a special.

Grade: B/B-

I loved this and was soooo happy to get Trevor's story. Pete and his flustered stutter were just the best. And lord have mercy the smexing was hawwwt! *fans self* I think I may have like this better than the first.

But.

I totally wanted to give this 5 stars but I had two ... well, niggle is too nice a word. Let's just say they were things that annoyed the piss out of me.

1) Rhodie and Wash. While I LOVE them and it was soooo much fun to see them again, i felt fucking SMOTHERED by them by the end. They showed up too early on and left way too late.

2) The author gave herself 7 months. The babysitting was supposed to last that long so she could have at least squeezed a few months of relationship or something. In stead we got 1 week, insta love and BAM they'll be giving up everything to live together.

Eh. Don't let that put you off (unless you hate insta love as much as I usually do) it's a good book, great follow up to the first (wouldnt read this without having read Private Dicks bc then youll REALLY be annoyed by Wash and Rhodie). Yay Trevor for finally getting your own big toppy cop!

A very good continuation of the "Private Dicks" series. Romance, with a little angst and suspense thrown in. Sometimes it got a little cheesy but the 'fall-in-love' part for Pete and Trevor, that was good. I am happy Trevor finally got his man. Great story with a nice HEA.

My first Katie Allen was a bit of a disaster. It was an M/M/F and bad enough to have girl cooties, the little critters were TSTL. Private Dicks, my next title by the author, didn't impress me either though I thought the two guys had a lot of potential. So I was a little unsure what I'd get with Hide Out which has the couple from PD making a major appearance

I needn't have worried. Hide Out is rather good. Both Pete and Trevor are likable though I thought Pete's uncertainty, towards the end, about whether Trevor wants a permanent relationship, rather forced. There was nothing to justify Pete thinking Trevor would up and leave now that the threat over his head had been permanently removed. However, this is a very small quibble and not even a complaint - just remarking - because overall, I found HO a fast-paced, enjoyable read.

Wash's and Rhodes' appearance gave this story a warm, feel-good tone as I liked that young Trevor had these guys looking out for him and cared enough to turn up in Honeysuckle, the small town where Trevor and Pete are hiding undercover as a gay couple, to check on him.

A murder in their neighborhood provided a surprisingly good aside to the main suspense plot and both wrap up nicely, if a little too simply. I'll be checking out the next Katie Allen, for sure, if she doesn't add any girl cooties to the mix, that is.

Like the first book in the series, it's not that I hated this book, BUT when I compare this book to other books I have given 4 stars, I could not in good conscience rate this higher. So like the first one, this is a 3.49-star read for me.

In this one we get Trevor's story, and I have to say I was looking forward to getting the 4-1-1 on him. It turns out his father, is a piece of shit, and Trevor is finally ready to testify against him, for the atrocious things he has done.
Trevor has been on the run/hiding for some time, but because of his role in book 1, the past has now caught up.
Peter -a cop who knows nothing about Trevor and Trevor's dad- is tasked with hiding Trevor until the trial.
Peter has bought a ramshackle house in Honeysuckle, which is a small, neighborly town in the middle of nowhere. He brings Trevor here, and his plan is that they will keep a low profile, in this nosy, weird neighborhood.
description
However in the best 'Desperate Housewives'-style nothing is what it seems, and all of the neighbors have secrets. Secrets that get one of them killed.
All of a sudden Trevor and Peter are in the middle of an investegation, while trying to hide from everyone. Of course that doesn't work, and suddenly Nate and Isaac are there, helping with the house and butting in.

The mystery in this one was better. It was more fleshed-out and more time was spent on it, but like the first book, the smex scenes were plentiful, and at some point I became numb to it.
It's not that it wasn't hot, it was, but since the MCs couldn't even mow the lawn without humping in the shed, it lost the purpose for me.
Also Peter and Trevor weren't quite as funny as Isaac and Nate, but since the mystery was better in this one, it sort of weighs it out for me.
All in all a fun, entertaining read, but I'm not sure it will be on my re-read list.

This was an easy five stars for me. I totally loved it. I thought Trevor was absolutely adorable in "Private Dicks" and he was even better in this one. Actually, this book is the only reason I read the first book in the series. After seeing the description I couldn't wait to read it. Luckily I liked Private Dicks too.

I'm not going to go into a long, drawn out review about what the book is about. The description and other reviewers have already done that. I loved watching Pete and Trevor as their relationship developed. After reading one particular review I was under the impression that it was a back and forth... long and drawn out.... on Pete and Trevor finally getting around to telling the other they were gay. That made me iffy. I was scared it would be half the book of the two dancing around each other before finally doing something about the mutual attraction. I'm glad it wasn't like that. It would have made for a LONG book in my opinion.

Pete and Trevor are perfect. Trevor is running from his murderous dad and it was so cool watching how Pete protects him. Then there is a murder in the new neighborhood. The way Trevor's dad found him was a "duh!" moment... kind of anti-climactic though the resolution to that particular part of the story was good. I wasn't too surprised at who the murderer in the neighborhood was but knowing it (suspecting it) early on did not detract from the story.

I've read a ton of series that are linked in some way. Usually there will be a cameo (or a couple of quick lines thrown in in regards to them) by characters from the previous book. I am so glad the author chose to include Rhodes and Wash in an active role throughout most of this book. I loved the two in the first book and I was happy to see them so much in this one.

Trevor and Pete are the perfect couple. The ending was perfect. This instantly went on my favorites shelf. Definitely a great read.

Well, I didn't like this one as much as the first in the series; there's a lot of leeway with a couple of PIs doing investigative work that can't be short-changed when it comes to actual cops. So, I guess it was harder to suspend disbelief on the cray OTT plot & action. Can't say I was fond of the murdered side-character being painted as a shallow, cheating bisexual whore, either. Or the female side-character not being Mirandized before calmly explaining why she killed the guy. (Even when Mirandizing is mentioned in that same effing paragraph!)

Yeah, I don't know how it took so long for Trevor's dad to find him. Rather than an odd story in a random newspaper, I'd find it more likely that one of his hired peeps located him through the cop; after all, the department didn't want anyone to know he was being hidden (including other cops) so that kind of suggests cops might be on the take for the bad guy...even the most clueless of police officers would have seen the long-term absence of another one as suspicious and then try to find out why & where he'd gone. A title search, loan docs (pull credit), credit card purchases, temporary mail forwarding - there are potentially dozens of ways to find the cop, all relatively easy for those with access...and wouldn't take long to check out whether he had the witness squirreled away. (Even if using all cash on those million store purchases the house was still Pete's.)

Still, the sex was hot and I liked seeing Rhodes & Wash again...although, they did feature a lot more than I expected in another couple's book!

I was happy to see Trevor get his HEA after he was shafted in the first book. Trevor and pete were super hot together and at times, quite comical. I love seeing Wash and Rhodie again...glad they play such a big role in this book. This story was a mix of romance and mystery with a twist of humor. At times you forgot that Trevor was hiding from his father...but then it surprises you when he pops back up again. Great read with very little angst. Recommend for everyone.

This one was a hit with me! All of the elements that I loved about Private Dicks were here in spades. The hilariously funny conversations, well rounded characters and interesting but not over the top or drawn out mystery. There was even a Red Green reference - I just about fell off my chair when I read that. Okay Katie, when is the next book coming out???

While I enjoyed the book preceding this one, I wasn’t so bowled over that I had to jump out and read the next. That’s why this has languished on my TBR pile for over a year. In the end, while I probably enjoyed it about the same, I did so for different reasons.

Pete is a cop not really comfortable with his sexuality. He’s never had a relationship, only hook-ups, and he’s recently been getting a little more flack at work. His captain offers him the chance to babysit a witness to a murder trial, the gorgeous Trevor. Trevor is a reluctant witness. He’d still be hiding from his father if the cops on the case hadn’t found him and dragged him back to testify. Pete decides that instead of hiding in a city that might be predictable, he’ll take Trevor to the small town of Honeysuckle. Pete recently bought a house there in dire need of renovation, and it seems like the perfect cover to keep Trevor busy and out of the way until the trial. Their attraction is mutual and sizzling, though it takes a while for them to even tell the other they’re gay. Once they initiate a physical relationship, things start hitting the fan, including a murder and a drop-in visit from old friends Rhodes and Wash.

Trevor and Pete have a warm, affable charm that comes through almost from the beginning. Though Trevor is sullen at first, there are flashes of humor in between his sniping and sarcasm, enough to keep me going until Pete is able to break down more of those walls. Pete is the real find in this. His quiet intensity shields a softer side, one that yearns for a real relationship if the idea terrifies him. I loved how protective he was without being overbearing about it, even though he tried. Trevor was having none of that, however. He rebelled whenever he could, though partially because he loved it so much when Pete went all dominant on him. The dialogue between them is fun, and their chemistry sparkles. I did grow weary of all the sex scenes, but it’s an EC book. The large number was to be expected.

What didn’t really work for me was the murder that got dropped into the middle of the story. While they worked to try and figure out what happened, I kept wondering what any of this had to do with the greater problem of Trevor’s dad and if that would end up getting conveniently resolved. By the time the ending rolled around, I understood more why the murder was a necessary plot point, but I’d been right about the ease in which the witness issue was settled. It ended up being too little too late, though. Resenting and rolling my eyes through a major plot part in the middle of the story is not conducive to falling in love with it, especially when the details and circumstances seemed to stretch the realm of belief.

One quibble I had with the editing is a problem I find in a lot of books where proofing isn’t quite as tight as it could be. Imaging is not the same as imagining. I don’t know how many times I see that mistake made, and it’s frustrating every single time. I know it’s got to be because editors and authors aren’t reading carefully. Skimming through the text, it’s easy to see how the brain would automatically turn that into the word you want to use, but that doesn’t change the fact that it jumps out at me every time I find the mistake. This author is hardly alone in this common error, but it happened more than once in this story, enough to annoy me to the point of needing to mention it.

If there’s a third book, I’m likely to pick it up even though this one didn’t knock my socks off. I keep finding just enough to keep me engrossed. Maybe with the third book, she’ll find a way to blend all her strengths into a single story and make it better than all of its predecessors.

Contemporary M/M romance where a man has to hide out in a witness protection scenario with a sexy policeman for protection for seven months in a crazy small town environment.
Officer Peter Giordano is not feeling comfortable at the Police station because of his gay sexual orientation so when the opportunity comes for him to get months of paid leave to protect the witness, Trevor Haas, Pete takes it without thinking about it too much. So the two men go to the tiny town of Honeysuckle, to pose as gay men looking to start a new life and cix up the old house that Pete bought only a week before getting this protection job. So they both are quiet about their real sexuality and they are very careful around each other while trying to get together better. But they are trying to pose as a gay couple so in public they need to be somewhat couple-y which is funny because they would make a great 'real' couple in private. Things progress quickly after their first kiss.
The surprising part is what they decide to do at the end. I would seriously be looking for a new place to live if I got a concussion, a gunshot wound and or multiple murder attempts... When that happens, it's time to pack the boxes and move!

As I liked the character of Trevor in "Private Dicks", I was looking forward to reading his story.

But while I was reading "Hide Out", unfortunately I could not get over the feeling of having read the storyline and character development or a close variation of it before. I caught myself skipping large parts - first the shilly-shallying of "does he know I am gay, is he gay himself, how will react if he finds out I am gay" by both characters that to me felt drawn-out and later on I skipped most of the to me somewhat repetitive sex scenes.

There were a few moments where the humorous banter I enjoyed in "Private Dicks" flashed up - mostly in the scenes that included the visiting Rhodes and Wash - but not enough to heighten my overall enjoyment of this book.

This series is so much fun! Shallow plot and not much of a suspense/mystery, sure...but talk about sexy! Hot guys, going at it like rabbits..yum!

Loved the Wash bits! And the super-hot scene with the two couples in one room!

If you liked Private dicks, you're going to LOVE Hide Out. Trevor and Pete - omg, these two are just so freakin cute and sexy and loveable - sigh!!

The plot was excellent and I adored the residents of Honeysuckle. It was fabulous seeing Wash and Rhodie again. But my heart most definitely belongs to Trevor and Pete - for now and always. I wish there were more stories with them in it because I would buy and read them like a shot.

Awesome read!

This book is very different, imo, from Private Dicks, but no less awesome, although I have to say I still prefer the raw intensity of Rhodes' and Wash's relationship. But I love this somehow more quiet and steady relationship between Trevor and Pete too.
Their insecurity about 'is he gay', 'what'd he think of me' and so on in the beginning seemed a little drawn out to me, but it worked out good, so I'm not complaining :)

This was lighthearted fluff. I definitely enjoyed Private Dicks more. It had more of a plot than this one. The set up of this book was pretty much so that Pete and Trevor could have sex over 7 months. The fact that Trevor was running from his Dad was secondary. I did enjoy the story. The quirky townspeople of Honeysuckle were interesting enough. I really liked Danny, the weird teenage kid. Overall a fluff read.

Wonderful! I read Private Dicks first and this follow-up delivered everything Allen promised in the earlier book. She writes fabulous male POV, with believable dialogue and characters motivation and vulnerability. Add a ton of well-paced rising sexual heat and a satisfying pay-offs, and the exact right amount of plot for a longer erotica, and you've got a winner.
