IN THE CHARMING SMALL TOWN OF MAPLETON, GRUDGES RUN DEEP, AND SECRETS RUN EVEN DEEPER.
Natalie Alvarez, the secret daughter of a notorious philanderer, thought she’d left her past behind. But when she’s unexpectedly named an heir to her estranged family's sprawling estate, she is forced to return to the town that never welcomed her. Her plan is simple: sell her share and leave as quickly as possible. However, Ethan Pierce, the passionate and infuriatingly attractive research professor, has other ideas.
Ethan is determined to save the pristine land from developers and isn’t afraid to clash with Natalie to do it. He sees her as a threat to everything he cares about, while she views him as a stubborn obstacle in her way. Yet as they engage in a battle of wills, the line between conflict and desire begins to blur, and the attraction between them becomes impossible to ignore.
Just when Natalie starts to rethink her escape plan, the same forces that once drove her out of Mapleton resurface, leaving her with a critical choice: retreat to her peaceful but lonely life or fight for the home—and the person—she never knew she wanted.
2.4 ⭐️ L'histoire était poche, pas assez de tension sexuel et pourtant il y avait du potentiel, les 2 scènes de sexe était ultra décevante genre zéro préliminaires ou rien, la fin est cringe
Fight or Flight is such a cute, quick book to read! This cover is fun and really matches what’s inside!
Natalie has had a rough start to her life - her mother died when she was young. She never had a relationship with her father(she was a secret love child) so she went to live with her grandmother until the town(and her fathers wife) started talking badly about her. She takes off to see the world, changing her name and not looking back until she receives notice that her grandmother has passed away. She is requested to spread her grandmother's ashes and was surprised to find out that she inherited part of the family’s property with her half sister and research professor, Ethan. Natalie & Ethan don’t have the friendliest first meeting but they pull together once other people get involved to try to take what’s rightfully theirs. With lots of drama and some twists & turns that lead to a happily ever after.
This book is Dual POV - Natalie & Ethan. These two characters both have been through a lot and neither really want to start a new relationship. It is an opposites attract story with some good bantering with some spice tossed in. I absolutely adored Ethan and his love for his community wanting to make it a better place to live. He would do anything for anyone! Natalie seemed selfish at first but she really wanted to do right by her sister, nephew and Ethan. I would love to have visited some of the places she had gone to with her job as a tour guide!
At times some of the characters got a little confusing for me since there were so many of them but I got past that since I truly enjoyed the story. I look forward to reading the next book!
This book has… Enemies to Lovers Sworn off a relationship Small Town - Canada Opposites Attract Slow Burn
Thanks to BookSirens and Diana Deehan for the Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a cute, easy read, and I really enjoyed this book. It's set in Canada, so I thought that was a fun change. Natalie works for a tour company and lives out of her suitcase. But when her grandma passes away, she gets notice that she has inherited a piece of her property. The catch, she must return to her hometown that she left years ago, so that she can spread her grandma's ashes. No biggie. She will go, fulfill her grandma's final wish, and leave. What could possibly go wrong? How about the fact that her grandma left the other half of her estate to Natalie's half-sister. Then there's Ethan, a research scientist. Natalie thinks he's a homeless person, and he's all upset that she is trying to kill off snakes that he's protecting in his new ecosystem that he made. I really enjoyed this book. It's a slow burn, but well worth it. Ethan was a cutie, and I loved his character.
This was a cute easy read! Our main girl Natalie wants to visit 100 countries and is on country 99 as we start the book, but she needs to go back to a hometown filled with family drama. Ethan is passionate about his work but has bad luck with girls until Natalie arrives. The ending felt a bit rushed to me and I wish we could’ve enjoyed Natalie making it to her 100th country more, because that’s such a crazy accomplishment!! So 3.5 rounded down⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is so adorable! I love Diana's writing so much. This is such a great series! Diana is such a wonderful person and I'm always grateful to read for her.
What a sweet read ❤️ I read this book really quickly and loved how light and cute it was but for me what warmed my heart the most was the Canadian setting. As a Canadian myself, we very rarely have any stories set in our country with all the trademarks and I loved how I just knew everything from sports teams to cities and sights. I felt represented.
Now on to the actual story and characters. I loved how both main characters are such opposites but by the end of the book they both meet in the middle. Natalie is a nomad and wants to travel, doesn’t want to put roots down and does what feels right when it does. Ethan is very rational and practical and it shows in everything he does. After they meet and start spending time with each other, you can see how their way of thinking and what they want shifts by being somewhat influenced by the other person. The character development was nice and not too fast.
The pace of the story is perfect, not too quick not too slow and we even got an unexpected twist at the end which I did not expect at all. If you’re looking for a romantic, sweet light read with just the right amount of spice, this is for you.
This was a cute & quick read! A grabbed it cause of the sweet cover & knowing the author is Canadian (like me) and that the story takes place in Canada as well. The references were fun to connect to!
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (rounded up to 4)
I loved how the main characters were opposites and perfectly balanced each other. Nathalie is a nomad, always on the go and traveling the world. Ethan is a stable, hard-working man who loves his hometown. They both bring out sides of each other that they need.
The book could have gone a little deeper into their personalities, history and connections. There were times I was a bit confused to the way characters related to one another.
The day song was a fun touch! It’s so true that a song can bring you back to a time, and being up memories (good or bad).
Read if you enjoy: ⭐️ Canadian setting ⭐️ Enemies to lovers ⭐️ Opposites attract ⭐️ Small town ⭐️ Dual POV
Looking forward to Adam & Chelsea’s story!

Natalie works for a tour company and lives out of a suitcase.
She unexpectedly inherits a share in a property in Canada after her grandmother passes away. One of the stipulations in the will is that she return to the town she left several years earlier, and scatter her grandmother’s ashes.
Ethan is a research scientist, mainly being interested in ecosystems. He comes across Natalie just after she fulfils her grandmother’s wishes.
Natalie mistakes Ethan for a homeless person, living in the woods on the property, and he is horrified that she is trying to kill snakes that are starting to thrive in an area in which he has created a new ecosystem.
They are two of the persons named as beneficiaries in the will, the third being Natalie’s half sister Chelsea, who wants to move to the town and live in the house with her young son Ben, and Natalie.
Natalie has a new job lined up in Australia, but obstacles placed in her way stop her from leaving, even though she is desperate to go.
She and Ethan are very much drawn to each other, but Natalie is still determined to leave, and it’s very much a “will they, won’t they” situation from here.
Add in a motley bunch of relatives, a Mayor that thinks she should have inherited the property, old friends, and an ex who doesn’t understand why she was dumped, and you have a really good read on your hands.
I enjoyed everything about this book, the characters were well written, and the story well plotted. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

Natalie has a very complicated history with her hometown of Mapleton and vows never to return after she fled. Instead she travels the world as a tour guide and lives out of a suitcase. But then she hears that her Grandmother died and wants Natalie to spread her ashes on the estate. She can follow her grandma's wishes and then escape before anyone knows right? Nope. She's shocked to learn that Elizabeth split her estate between her and her half sister, Chelsea, and Ethan, an ecologist working to bring the land back to a natural watershed. Since Natalie is determined to sell as quickly as possible and get back to her "normal" life and Ethan is afraid of developers taking over and destroying all he's worked for, he decides to spend some time with her convincing her to stay and keep the house. But as time goes on, his reasons for wanting her to stay start to change. I liked this sweet small town romance with just enough spice. I really liked watching the relationship grow between the two sisters and the romance with Ethan was slow burn and sweet. I'm excited to read Adam and Chelsea's story when it comes out. This is book 1 in Deehan's Mapleton series and the first by this author for me. I thought this was an incredible cute romance read. Well written with good characters and a captivating storyline. Our main characters are Natalie and Ethan. Natalie only spent a small time in Mapleton but that was plenty for her. She flew out of there as soon as she could and never had plans to return - until she was forced to. Ethan is more local and loved Mapleton enough to want to save it - environmentally so. Natalie is a fly by the seat kinda gal and Ethan is a not. I love their opposites that fit so well together and their meet-cute was so great. Loved the humor and Ethan's bestie Adam was great! I loved that Natalie found the strength (or anger) to stand up for what she wanted rather than what she thought was best for others. A great read with some sweet, some heat and some laughs too! Can't wait for more from Deehan and this series!

Natalie has been a world traveller taking up tour guide jobs for the past 10 years in a quest to visit 100 countries by age 30. She lives out of her suitcase and thinks she loves her life as a nomadic Instagram travel influencer. Her estranged grandmother passes away, which brings her back to Canada, and the small town gossip and family drama she left behind. It's here she meets Ethan, a hot, nerdy scientist who is working to restore a pond on her grandmother's property. Insert a long-lost sibling, a high school best friend, and a one night stand, and this book was like a Hallmark movie with a touch of spice!
The enemies to lovers trope was very mild for me, but it didn't change that I really enjoyed Natalie and Ethan's characters and how their relationship builds throughout the book. Solid romcom vibes 🩷
Now or Never (Book #2) releases in March 2024 and I can't wait to read Chelsea and Adam's story!
”It’s impossible to be homesick when you don’t have a home.” “….maybe he is your home.”
Natalie has travelled for years on a journey to see the world, motivated by her preference to elude her hometown of Mapleton. When she receives an unfavorable message that her grandmother has passed and left her the family mansion and land in her will, Natalie must venture home and summon the courage to confront her family. Enter: Ethan, ravishing landscaper of said land. Will the turmoil of her past outweigh her newfound love interest?
I could NOT put this book down! Read it in two sittings. The imagery conjured in this novel swells with small town charm and a compelling love story. If you're looking for a fun and satisfying read, pick this one up!
Thank you to the author and BookSirens for my advanced review copy.
What a thoroughly enjoyable debut romcom!! Just the right amount of spice, heartache, and personal growth.
Natalie had a rough childhood and has spent the last decade living out of a suitcase, giving tours all over the world, a job she dearly loves. Until she's tracked down and made to return to the home of her paternal grandmother that she barely knew, to spread her ashes as the woman's last wish. Going back to the small town where she's known only as the child of an affair, she wants to get in and out as fast as possible.
But things are never that simple. And the handsome, intelligent, difficult Ethan certainly complicates things further by refusing to give in to his attraction to her since she won't be sticking around. Such a charming meet cute, love story, and story about family, love, and happiness.
Fight or flight has everything! Fight or flight has everything! I love a dual point romance and this is what this book has. First you meet Natalie, she’s got the dream job and is more than happy living out of her suitcase traveling around the world. Ethan on the other hand, is passionate about improving his small hometown by improving the landscapes. When the death of an elder relative draws Natalie back to Mapleton, where she meets Ethan, she begins to face the fight of her life. Allow herself to be won over and fall for Ethan, or go back to her jet-set lifestyle and tick off her 100th country and 7th continent. Fight of flight left me feeling all the emotions, I even found myself laughing out loud at it. I read it in a day, and I cannot wait to read the rest in the series! I recieved a copy of this book but I am leaving a voluntary review.
"It's impossible to be homesick when you don't have a home."
This was a highly entertaining and enjoyable debut, and it was made so much more special by being set in Ontario! I'm a Canadian at heart and it gives me so much joy to read about it.
I loved the balance of spice, maturity, and fun in this book. The consistency of the characters and their growth didn't feel forced, and the natural progression of the story flowed as wonderfully as the waterfalls mentioned in the story. For someone who used to harbour a fear of commitments, Natalie felt so real and relatable. It made me happy when she found what grounded her.
Thank you Diana Deehan and Book Sirens for letting me be a part of the review team of Fight or Flight. I am SO excited to see what comes next for Adam and Chelsea!
Ethan and Natalie are a classic case of opposite attracts, and their constant bickering was quite entertaining, which adds to all that angst that built up between them throughout the story. And sparks fly, when tention reaches its limit! Natalie's past in Mapleton and her strained relationship with the Monroe gives to this story just enough drama to keep it interesting without it being too heavy. Only thing that did bothered me: the ending seemed a bit rushed... and leaves behind more questions than answers. At least, for me. I need a backstory for all these side characters!
As a fellow Canadian, I loved that it was located in Canada - all these locals references, like poutine or Timbits, had makes me feel like home and it was lovely.
Overhall, I had a great time. It was a cute, sweet and easy read. Perfect for taking your mind off a long day. I can't wait to read Adam and Chelsea's story next!
I received a digital ARC of this book. I’ve never read the author before, but I am an instant fan. Natalie had a rough childhood, to put it mildly, and as soon as she graduated she left her small town in Canada and never looked backed. She even legally changed her name. Then one day her boss tells her there was a PI looking for someone with her maiden name. She’s shocked when he finds her and tells her that her grandmother has passed away and her last dying wish is for Natalie to spread her ashes. Natalie swore she’d never return to that town, but she figures she can get in and out before her next gig starts. If only it were that simple. Insert her childhood bff, her half sister and a man she never knew she needed….and you’ve got yourself a page turner. You’ll have to read to find out the rest.
One property. Too many owners. And so many secrets 👀
Natalie Alvarez never felt welcome in Mapleton… and inheriting part of her estranged family’s estate hasn’t exactly helped. Add in Dr. Ethan Pierce—a very handsome, very stubborn professor who is determined to stop her from selling the land—and the sparks start flying fast.
He’s fighting for the fragile ecosystem. She’s fighting for her freedom. And neither is backing down.
But somewhere between the waterfalls, long-lost siblings, and constant bickering… the walls start to crack. Ethan’s grip on his emotions slips, Natalie’s getting flustered for reasons she refuses to admit, and the enemies-to-lovers tension? Chef’s kiss.
A steamy, small-town rom com with heart, heat, and all the “finding home” feels. 💚🌿
I heard of this book as a coworker is family with the author! I was super excited to read someone local and read a story of a place I grew up near! With that being said, it was such an easy read I legitimately breezed through it. I read it in one sitting and refused to go to sleep until I finished! It was light and cute. My only complaint is I felt everything was a bit rushed. I get a connection can happen quick but this was a bit too quick for me. I feel the book would’ve been better being an extra fifty to a hundred pages longer to get more date time in! I really liked the characters so more loving and cutesy stuff is encouraged! I am excited to read the next one! Congrats on a good first novel :) 3 stars.
This book was adorable. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. A bit of a slow start for me but I fell in love with Natalie, Chelsea and Ben. I hated Anne from the get go, and Ethan and Adam are great characters. I love that this is listed as Book 1 of Mapleton because I hope to come back soon. I have a feeling Adam and Chelsea are going to get together. She's the one woman that could make him "grow up". I sense a waterfall wedding for Natalie and Ethan one day.
It’s a fun and fast-paced story with an amazing twist at the end which I did not expected but loved so much! It’s a romantic and sweet read with the right amount of spice in it. Ethan and Natalie are total opposites from each other but still overcame their differences. It’s a slow burn, but so well written! Ethan is such a lovely character, I was totally smitten by him! If you love slow burn, small town, sworn off a relationship, opposites attract, a good amoun of spice and dual POV, then you will love this book!
This was a really enjoyable read. I liked Natalie's story and that she had made a life for herself thshat she wasn't immediately willing to give up for a guy. I enjoyed the family backstop and drama.
Ethan was definitely book boyfriend material and a sweetheart while not letting people walk all over him.
Their story unfolded organically and nothing felt rushed. Can't wait to read Chelsea and Adam's story next!

This book has my attention from the very beginning. The author did a great job sucking me in from the start! I could not put the book down. It was a light easy read, filled with a lot of family drama and things the main character couldn't escape.
The only reason I'm giving the book 4 stars instead of 5 is because the pace did slow down in the middle. The beginning of the book was perfect, and the ending was what I needed.

Wow so many skeletons in the Monroe family closet. Loved the characters and the town of Mapleton. This family's story is so juicy. I love how the grand mothers will is what brings the estranged sisters back together and mends old wounds. Beautifully written and a perfect amount of steam. Looking forward to the next one.

This was such a cute read, with a nice twist at the end! As a fellow Canadian, I adored all the local references and I loved how easy this story flowed.
Natalie has been running from her past, until she is forced to return to the small town of Mapleton to deal with her grandmother's final wish. Small-town drama and awkward moments ensue when she meets the local snake-loving Ethan, but will her flight or fight kick in.
While I wasn't fully connected to the characters, I still enjoyed the premise and the story. Natalie is a little frustrating and Ethan was a sweetheart. I do wish I could've felt more of the relationship developing as it was happening but it was still cute!
