I've noticed a lot of cosplayers that do really exceptional jobs of using makeup in their character creations. I am not very good with makeup, never have been, so if I use too much, I end up looking like I'm trying to cosplay Mimi Bobeck from the old Drew Carey Show .
I bought this book hoping it would help with my dilemma, but unfortunately, this is the wrong kind of book. I guess that's what I get for purchasing a book without a description off an internet site. Even though it's not the kind of book I was hoping it was, it can prove to be quite useful if I can figure out how to tweak the recipes for my needs.
Karen Bressler and Susan Redstone's "D.I.Y. Beauty" is full of advice and recipes for making glosses, glitters, etc. Since many of these recipes may be usable in the end, I am relatively confident this book was not a waste of money. I just hope I don't end up looking like one of those ole Treasure Trolls by Russ Berrie (I have one - maybe I should cosplay as Mimi...).
The book is organized well and easy to understand, so I would recommend it to people looking for DIY recipes and basic advice.
Since I'm not really the girly type this book was an unusual read for me. I'm probably not gonna use any of the tricks in it, because for the most part I am actually pretty okay with what I look like and I don't want to use all of these procedures to change that. This book had a few interesting things in here and I learned a few things that I did find useful. It's a quick read and very simple. Good for girls who care very much about what they look like and want some new tips or want to clear out a few myths.
