Action-packed, romantic story with likeable, interesting characters
I enjoyed many aspects of this story: its world-building, the variety of believable characters, and the growth of a realistic love arising from an ongoing series of conflicts and the fresh and lively dialog between Elizabeth and Alexander. I lalso loved the frequent contrasts between what Elizabeth thinks, says and does, and Alexander's perceptions of her. And just ss telling contrasts among what Alexander thinks, says, does with the additional contrasts between them and Elizabeth's perceptions. We see these two and their interactions from every angle, which creates subtlety, humor and a delightfully nuanced complexity to their relationship.
One instance of humor occurs when Alexander correctly defines two parts of a church and states the information required to calculate the number of flying buttresses for a cathedral, and Elizabeth thinks "What a magnificent man!" Yet when he'd previously put himself in danger to save her life, she thought, "He deserves some credit. I better be polite."
I highly recommend this book.

This is the story of Elizabeth and Alexander, the parents of Alec Macpherson from "Angel of Skye".
Elizabeth and Alexander have been betrothed for many years, but they have never met. Neither wants to marry the other. Alexander comes to town and unbeknownst to Elizabeth, plans on calling off the betrothal. Elizabeth goes to him to convince him to cry off, her friends get involved to push the two together (he's quite handsome) and they get caught in a storm and then a flood. After some humorous and, honestly, outrageous events, they begin to see attributes in each other that they admire and fall in love. HEA
The story was a bit silly at times, but it made for a lighthearted read. Still enjoyable.

I liked this story. Elizabeth and Alexander were very likeable characters. The situation was very unlikely, but still not a bad story. Also I find it very unbelievable that the snake did not bite her.

This is the prequel to the Scottish Relic Trilogy
I always enjoy knowing where a story really starts. There's action and danger thrown in to make you keep reading. I only wish it had gone on longer.

Loved this one. A short but exciting read. Two young people hope to avoid the duty they had been committed to in their youth. Circumstances and a naughty queen conspire against them. Will definitely read again.

Pure strength of wills and romance
I could not put this astounding novel down and read it in one sitting! I loved all the people that portrayed each royal person

The book wasn’t what I expected. I love historical fiction but this seemed like a Harlequin Romance with a side of history. Just not my thing.
