Kommer du ihåg prins Hatt, prins Lindorm eller systrarna Lilla Rosa och Långa Leda? De är alla del av vår sagoskatt som befolkas av såväl prinsar och prinsessor som elaka styvmödrar och klunsiga jättar. Dessa folksagor har berättats för svenskar i generationer, men utgör också en del av en större europeisk berättartradition.

Här presenteras ett fyrtiotal av våra mest älskade sagor i en ny språkdräkt av Birgitta Hellsing, som lyhört anpassat texten till modern svenska samtidigt som sagornas speciella doft och atmosfär har bibehållits. I sakkunniga kommentarer av Jan-Öjvind Swahn ges information om sagornas ålder, ursprung och utbredning samt deras upptecknare. För de fantasieggande illustrationerna står tecknaren Alvario Tapia som med sin personliga stil levandegör berättelserna och återkallar den klassiska sagostämningen.

43 Swedish fairy tales/folk tales rewritten in a modern language by Birgitta Hellsing and with comments by Jan-Öjvind Swahn who's a researcher in ethnology and folklore. Jan-Öjvind's comments are among other things on the themes in the stories, where they might have come from and how they have spread, and what audience the stories might have had.

The tales are also illustrated by one of my favourite contemporary illustrators: Alvaro Tapia. Even though these stories aren't necessarily set in the Viking age they have chosen to let the Norse culture inspire the illustrations. Tapia does this theme incredibly well, and I think he was the perfect choice of illustrator for this gorgeous book.

This is a book I will treasure and re-read!

Är man ute efter svenska folksagor finns det verkligen inget att klaga på - bra urval med vackra illustrationer och intressanta kommentarer till gör det till en bok som passar både vuxna som barn.

Underbar samling sagor med helt fantastiska efterord till varje om sagans historiska spridning genom världen (vissa finns bevis på över tretusen års historia bakom) och beskrivning av kända variationer. Varje originalupptecknare till sagorna får en liten biografi på slutet där man kan lära sig många titlar att leta reda på om man vill fortsätta läsa om svensk folkkultur och sagor.

Trevlig bok jag skaffade mest för illustrationerna av Alvaro Tapia men som även hade väl läsvärt innehåll om man är intresserad av alla sorters folk och fä.

One of the editors of this books grated on my nerves throughout most of it, but it's a very extensive collection of Swedish folktales, and it's beautifully illustrated.
